Putin's Spies in America

Frontpage Interview's guest today is Konstantin Preobrazhenskiy, a former KGB agent who became one of the KGB’s harshest critics. He is the author of seven books about the KGB and Japan. His new book is KGB/FSB's New Trojan Horse: Americans of Russian Descent.



FP: Konstantin Preobrazhenskiy, welcome the Fronpage Magazine.

Preobrazhensky: Thank you for giving me a chance to address the realistically minded people.

FP: Tell us about your background and the circumstances under which you came to the KGB.

Preobrazhensky: I graduated from the Institute of Asia and Africa of the Moscow University in 1976. Before that, I was an intern at the Tokai University in Japan. I am a specialist in Japan, a fluent Japanese speaker. I love Japan very much. And this love has brought me to the KGB.

FP: What do you love about Japan?

Preobrazhensky: Because it is a fairyland. In its ultra-modern society you can see the medieval society of "samurai" like through a magic telescope. This unbelievable combination makes Japan a magic fascination which cannot be expressed in words.

FP: Ok, so tell us how you ended up in Japan.

Preobrazhensky: Well, if you are a specialist in Japan, you had to travel to the country that you were studying. And that was possible only if you were working for KGB. By the way, Soviet specialists in the U.S.A. were in the same situation. They all were connected to the KGB and most of them were its officers. There was only one chance to avoid working for KGB: becoming an officer of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the member of the highest elite. But it was very hard to do that.

So I only had one choice: either become a KGB collaborator, whose position is very dependent, or its staff officer with shoulder-stripes and high military salary. The second variant was much better.

But it was very hard to do. In the end, my father, the Deputy Commander of the KGB Frontier Troops, "pushed" me into KGB intelligence, the most privileged and well-paid job in the USSR.

My work in Tokyo as a spy from 1980-85, was very successful. I was covered as a correspondent of the Soviet TASS Agency. But it was not a cover for me. It was my actual job, because I am a born author. My KGB colleagues in Tokyo called me, with a grin, "An author covered as a spy." And they were right.

While in the KGB, I published a couple of books on Japan:" The Sports Dressed in Kimono" (1985) and "The Bamboo Sword" (1982). Both were a success. And two of my short novels, "Karate Begins with Bows" and "Very New and Old Pagoda" were published by the Soviet Academy of Science in 1987, in the Academic Anthology, "Soviet Authors on Japan, 1917-87"

In Tokyo, I was spying on China. I recruited a Chinese scholar there. But Japanese counterintelligence learned about it somehow and caught me in 1985 on my way to contact this new Soviet agent. It became a spy scandal. The KGB forcibly returned me to Russia and accuses me solely of this scandal, though nobody knew the real reason. It tragically interrupted my career as a Japanologist.

FP: So when did you turn on the KGB?

Preobrazhensky: My interviewers always ask me when I got disappointed in the KGB. Never. Because I came there disappointed. Contrary to most young officers, I knew about its criminal and inhumane activities from my father's colleagues. That is why I began to write a book of revelations about the KGB from my first day of serving there. It was first published in Tokyo in 1994, soon after I left the KGB in 1991. It was entitled, "The Spy Who Loved Japan." It became a best seller.

When I left the KGB in 1991, it was dissolving at that time, although under Putin it has resurged. Immediately I went to the Japanese media in Moscow and began to publish interviews, articles and even books disclosing the KGB. I became a security columnist at "Moscow Times" newspaper which made me world known. "The Spy who Loved Japan" irritated the KGB greatly, but they could not do anything against me in 1994: it was a short period of Russian democracy. But finally my anti-KGB activities forced me to run away from Russia.

FP: So under what circumstances did you come to the U.S.?

Preobrazhensky: After Putin came to power in 2000, he began the persecution of all the KGB dissidents. In 2002, Oleg Kalugin was sentenced in absentia to 15 years, being accused of disclosing the KGB secrets. I knew I was next. Unfortunately, I was not "in absentia", but in Moscow. As a professional, I got a feeling that they were going to arrest me very soon. I urgently went to the U.S. on a private visit and asked for political asylum. Now I am permanent resident in the U.S. This dramatic story has been described in my new book, "KGB/FSB's New Trojan Horse: Americans of Russian Descent."

FP: The American media and literary culture ignored your book. How come?

Preobrazhensky: My book was ignored. Only a few religious writers have reviewed it as it is devoted to the KGB penetration of America through the Russian Orthodox Church. It tells how the KGB managed to put Russian Americans under its control by merging the Russian Orthodox Church abroad with the Kremlin-controlled Moscow Patriarchate. That is why the laymen journalists probably did not want to cover such a delicate topic. How is possible to speak about the Church as a tool of espionage? It would not be "politically correct." So political correctness has helped Putin to keep his espionage in America secret. Moreover, it is helping him facilitate it. Putin knows very well about American political correctness and about the fact that American counter-intelligence is not eligible to monitor clergymen. The KGB is doing it in Russia very aggressively in spite of the fact that Church and State are separate there too.

So we have a situation that Putin is openly spying in the U.S. and Americans are afraid of writing about it. This idiotic paradox is a symbol of current American-Russian relations. They bring profit only to Russia.

Just recently, the wall of silence about my book was finally broken. My book was reviewed by Professor Clare Lopez, published by Gerard Group International:

Professor Clare Lopez has come to a conclusion which is very important for me: "For those who think the Cold War ended in 1991, this book will have you thinking again. Konstantin Preobrazhensky wants Americans to wake up to the ongoing agenda of the Russian regime, which he says under the rule of Vladimir Putin and the KGB has reverted to the intelligence-dominated repressive state of the 20th century."

FP: Can you talk a bit about the growth of leftism in America and the KGB influence on it?

Preobrazhensky: Well, the KGB has no special need to influence American leftists any more. Their ancestors in Stalin's time have done it for them. They have seeded leftism among the American intellectuals, and today's KGB is only gathering their crop.

On the other hand, a lot of American leftists were recruited by the KGB in the Soviet period. They are still working for the Russians. There are many KGB collaborators in this country.

Also, a lot of Americans have been educated as leftists at the leftist universities in America. Their professors were contacting the KGB in the 1930s, or were "useful idiots," as Lenin has cynically called the Western intellectuals devotedly working for Russia. Their successors are teaching there now. The graduates of such universities are joining the most important governmental offices, and it might very well affect the American political course.

But there is one more reason for the growth of leftism. Many people get disappointed in capitalism. A lot of Americans are still sure that socialism is better. When I tell them that socialism inevitably brings the GULAG they do not believe me.

Russian intellectuals of 19th century made the same mistake, but they were severely punished for it by the 70-years of horrible Communist rule. Americans have not suffered such a disappointment yet.

Leftism brings a specific damage to America. Let's not forget that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg delivered American atomic bomb secrets to Russia not for money, but because of being leftists.

And the wide spread of leftism in the U.S. alleviates Russian influence here as Russia is a leftist country.

FP: What is the extent of Russia influence in the U.S.?

Preobrazhensky: It is very strong. The Russian mechanism of misinformation and manipulation includes the utilization of some American think-tanks and political scientists.

Democratic states are much more vulnerable than authoritarian ones. That is why Putin's machine of lies not only deceives America, but creates an inadequate and adorned image of Russia, provoking America to make wrong decisions about this country.

One example is provided by the decision to close Russian Service of the Voice of America in 2007. Maybe Americans consider Russian Service to be a mere relic of the Cold War, unnecessary in free Russia, but in fact it has been one of the last sources of independent information for Russians. It has irritated Russian authorities. Putin has managed to close it with the Americans' hands.

But the Russian propagandist TV channel, "Russia Today," is very active in America. Nobody is going to close it or transfer to Internet!

The clear one-sidedness of American-Russian relations is also exposed by the Russian lobbyism here. There are the opened Russian lobbyists in America like Ketchum Company and others. But are there any American lobbyists in Russia? Oh, no.

Any Russian that agrees to become an American lobbyist would be declared a national traitor. Putin calls such people "the jackals at foreign embassies". Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a Russian tycoon and the former President of the YUKOS Company, was said to be a sort of American lobbyist. Where is he now? In prison, from where he will hardly ever get out. In Russia, it is considered non-patriotic to be an American lobbyist.

"Do not criticize Russia because it will strengthen the position of the opponents of its pro-Western course there." Such a phrase is very much used by both Russian and American authors. It is a very sophisticated piece of misinformation. It postulates that still not all the people in the Russian elite are anti-American and they all have a freedom of arguing against Russian anti-Americanism. Such a notion is very well understood by Americans. But in fact, there are no pro-American people in the Kremlin. Hatred of America is symbol of loyalty there. If you love America, you cannot work in the Russian government.

Sometimes this myth is pronounced in another version:" Oh, do not criticize Russia or they will make friends with China." But they are friends already. It is too late to caution about it. This is the misinformation thesis invented by Directorate "A" of SVR, that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Directorate "A" is tasked to misinform American and Western public opinion about. Many journalists are reproducing this false thesis, not knowing where it was invented. But recently some American politicians began to pronounce a far more dangerous thesis: "Let's yield Georgia and Ukraine to Russia, and Russians will help us in Iran."

FP: The chance of Putin helping the U.S. in Iran?

Preobrazhensky: Zero. The Russians will never do so. They will never help the U.S. in any Islamic country. They have developed their own, very special relations with the Islamic World, based on anti-Americanism.

Russia has a four-centuries experience of tolerating Islam and does not want to share it with America. Moreover, Russia's strategic goal is to display the U.S. to militant Islam as a scapegoat instead of itself.

FP: What are the methods of Russian influence?

Preobrazhensky: In 2004, Putin revived Stalin's practice of inviting Western writers directly to Moscow and charming them personally. He has founded the "Valdai Discussion Club" for them. The club meetings are held at Golitsyno, one of Putin's residences in Moscow suburbs, and also in other places of Russia. There Putin is hosting luxurious receptions at which he is fascinates American intellectuals.

Putin is a good actor. He presents himself as a sole liberal captured by the conservative KGB surrounding. He portrays this picture: they are urging him to deviate from democracy, so the West should not criticize him too much or he will yield to the KGB completely.

Dr. Andrei Piontkovsky of the Hudson Institute has called members of Valdai Club "a collective Feuchtwanger".

Leon Feuchtwanger was a famous German writer of the 1930s who admired Stalin's regime. Today, the "collective Feuchtwanger" is propagating an adorned image of Russia, which affects American policy towards Russia. All this mechanism of Russian influence in America will be disclosed in my forthcoming book, "How Russian Federation is Ruling United States".

FP: What can Americans do to protect themselves from these Russian threats on their own territory? And what U.S. policy do you recommend toward Putin?

Preobrazhensky: America should stop the current abnormal situation which finds Russian intelligence working here manifestly, being sure that Americans now cannot afford a spy scandal against its supposed "ally" in fighting terrorism.

America should stop tolerating Russia by concessions and apologies which cause nothing but laughter from Russians. Americans should understand that Putin and other Russian leaders have a criminal psychology as they are building criminal capitalism. From the point of view of the mafia, those who make concessions are losers and fools. They deserve only further pressing, which Russia is demonstrating. America should be hard with Russians. Only after that Russians will respect America.

America should get rid of false expectations about Russia, the most dangerous of which is the following: "We need each other to oppose China and militant Islam". Russia does not need America at all in this. Russia tolerates both China and Islam in a way of betrothal, behind the back of America and in spite of it.

America should finally comprehend that Russia does not share American values. That it is not a democracy. America should treat it like it is treating China and other non-democratic countries.

There are eight levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important.

1) Healthcare– Control healthcare and you control the people

2) Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

4) Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.

Venezuela & Iran: "Counter this Axis"

Iran and Venezuela increasingly are not two virulently anti-American threats but one. And their coupling portends great peril far beyond just the Middle East and Latin America.

In a Brookings Institution speech adapted for a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Robert M. Morgenthau, the legendary Manhattan district attorney, warns that Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez continue to bolster their nations' financial, political and military ties.

They use Venezuela's banking system to circumvent sanctions designed to hobble Iran's financing of terrorists it supports openly and of its own nefarious development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.

Mr. Chavez, who supported Mr. Ahmadinejad's bogus re-election, might even be letting Iran produce illicit weapons in remote Venezuelan factories. And Iran's Hezbollah friends likely are trafficking cocaine -- the financial lifeblood of Colombia's FARC terrorists, upon whom Chavez looks with favor.

To counter this direct Iranian-Venezuelan threat to the U.S. and its allies, which could result in long-range, nuclear-armed missiles being developed right in America's own backyard, Mr. Morgenthau calls for better monitoring of and tougher sanctions against Venezuela's banking system. Not with the current Progressive Socialists at the helm. The intellectual pupils of Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers, and the rest of the Progressive Radical Left believe they politically share the same DNA with these dangerous Axis regimes and their handlers.

These intellectuals believe they can negotiate and lead by example, lower our defenses and compromise our national security. Take down our Constitution and Bill of Rights and subjugate our nation into a Global Socialist Order to gain more power, control and wealth for themselves.

Then if the Axis or their Allies still resists their progressive plans they try to negotiate with taxpayer dollars and treaty agreements that erodes our strategic economic security and independence.

Then when faced with arrogant regimes we are restricted to only use the empty threats of sanctions. All the while the Axis is secretly building up military technologies and or working to control key commodities to financially project and expand their influence in every region throughout the globe. Each member plays a predetermined well thought out position on a sophisticated 3 dimensional grand plan to take down and diminish American hegemony and suddenly replace it with an evolving Multi-Polar Axis Order.

The Axis puppet masters behind Iran, Venezuela and N. Korea are skillfully playing chess while our ignorant progressive politicians are willing agents to disarm and surrender this nation to a Global Socialist Order. This is a Communist trap, thinking they can subdue countries like Russia and China with treaties and trade.

This is why Russia, China and their Allies prefer dealing with the indoctrinated intellectual progressive Left leadership within America who share many common goals that are facets of same war plans communist defectors have been warning about for decades.

The free world must heed this prosecutor, whose work on the island that's home to both the United Nations and a global financial nexus gives him a perspective few can match.

Russian newspaper: U.S. descending into Marxism



During the keynote address earlier this year at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Russian communist party boss Vladimir Putin observed that the United States should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the State’s omnipotence.

“Twentieth-century Soviet policies made the state’s role absolute. In the long run, the Russian economy became totally unproductive. This lesson cost us dearly,” Putin observed.

The former KGB head went on to say that neither should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of business people, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded. “There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state,” he concluded.

The most compelling observation from the “Russian Bear,” however, was also made earlier this year by their state-owned newspaper, Pravda; which, with thinly-veiled sarcasm, noted that “like the breaking of a great dam,

• the American descent into Marxism is happening with breathtaking speed;

• against the backdrop of a passive, hapless ‘sheeple’ ... to properly prepare the American citizenry for the surrender of their freedoms and souls to the whims of the elite ... the populace has been dumbed-down through a politicized,

• substandard educational system;

Berit Kjos posted an article of Obama's UN speech with some comments and midway through there is a link to the 1963 Congressional list of "Current" Communist Goals.

The items in red are those that correspond with Obama's speech, looking at all of them and the state of our culture today and the planned communist infiltration into our nation and culture.

They've accomplished a great deal of them already and Obama and his administration will do a all but fulfill the rest.

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

THE BRZEZINSKI/OBAMA AXIS

Back in 1985, I wrote an article on Brzezinski for The Intercollegiate Review. Before citing some of the more relevant passages of that article, it should be borne in mind that Brzezinski, a political scientist, served as President Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser. One does not have to read Carter’s Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid to know that Carter is an anti-Semite. Brzezinski has earned the same reputation.

Not only has Brzezinski publicly defended the anti-Semitic canard that the relationship between America and Israel is the result of Jewish pressure, but he also signed a letter demanding dialogue with Hamas, whose charter calls for Israel’s destruction. It behooves us to understand the mentality of Obama’s Middle East adviser.

Long before he became Mr. Carter’s national security adviser, Brzezinski rejected what he and most political scientists term the “black-and-white” image of the American and Soviet political systems. “This image,” he says, “is held by traditional anti-Communists.” Brzezinski thus affirmed he is not quite an anti-Communist. In fact, he deplores anti-Communism as “a relic of the Cold War, of the age of ideology.”

Not only did Brzezinski reject the “black-and-white” image of the American and Soviet forms of government, he rejects the very notion of good and bad regimes! Brzezinski is simply a moral or cultural (or historical) relativist, and relativism has certainly modulated Barack Obama’s mentality.

The influence of political scientists like Brzezinski is wide and deep.

His relativism prompts him to negotiate with and appease terrorist regimes.

With Brzezinski as his adviser, Obama will be more disposed to appease Iran and betray America’s allies, above all Israel.

Since Brzezinski is a relativist, he denies the existence of objective or trans-historical standards for determining whether the way of life of one nation, group, or individual is morally superior to that of another. (The members of the UN General Assembly must be pleased to hear this, despite the UN’s notorious record of condemning Israel without having ever condemned an Islamic state.)

Brzezinski’s relativism also makes him a “weather-vane” political scientist. He turns with the winds of power. Working in a pluralistic and egalitarian country like America—a secular society—he conveniently adopts tolerance as his operational principle on the one hand, and equality as his primary value on the other. He is quite at home with the moral equivalency that has shaped US foreign policy toward Israel and Islamic dictatorships.

Brzezinski views history through the lens of Marxism, which, despite its atheism, has much in common with Islam. Both Communism and Islam are universalistic ideologies that reject the idea of the nation-state.

Both do not regard adherence to treaties between nations as obligatory. Both Communism and Islam are militaristic and expansionist creeds that do not recognize international borders. Brzezinski’s globalism is evident in Jimmy Carter.

Under Brzezinski’s influence, Carter lowered the defense budget and pursued a soft line toward the Soviet Union. Obama is pursuing a very soft line toward Islam.

As a crypto-Marxist, Brzezinski deplores the nation-state. His book Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era, declares that “With the splitting and eclipse of Christianity man began to worship a new deity: the nation. The nation became a mystical object claiming man’s love and loyalty. The nation-state along with the doctrine of national sovereignty fragmented humanity. It could not provide a rational framework within which the relations between nations could develop.” Brzezinski sees the nation-state as having only partly increased man’s social consciousness and only partially alleviated the human condition.

“That is why Marxism,” he contends, “represents a further vital and creative stage in the maturing and man’s universal vision.” Marxism, he says, “was the most powerful doctrine for generating a universal and secular human consciousness.” Embodied in the Soviet Union, however, Communism became the dogma of a party and, under Stalin, “was wedded to Russian nationalism.”

Although Brzezinski poses as a humanist, he makes a most inhumane statement by saying that: “although Stalinism may have been a needless tragedy, for both the Russian people and Communism as an ideal, there is the intellectually tantalizing possibility that for the world at large it was … a blessing in disguise.” Brzezinski could as readily say: “Yes, Muslims slaughtered more than 200 million people, but Islam brought hundreds of Christian, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Hindu, and Buddhist communities under a single universal vision, that of the Quran”!!!

Brzezinski, a self-professed secularist, is an internationalist whose moral relativism contradicts the moral law or natural rights doctrine of America’s Declaration of Independence.

His relativism and internationalism contradict the teachings of the America’s Founding Fathers, who endowed the United States with a national identity and character, the same that animated Abraham Lincoln. To put it more bluntly: Brzezinski’s political mentality — like that of countless other American academics — is anti-American. An Obama-Brzezinski axis has revolutionary significance. It may accelerate the de-Americanization and decline of the United States.

Grand Strategy and Socialism

Consider two categories:

(1) grand strategy for states where power is constitutionally constrained;
(2) grand strategy for states where power is concentrated in the hands of an unchecked oligarchy.

In the first category, the grand strategist is forced into a conservative position. In the second category, the grand strategist takes a revolutionary position. It may be argued that the first position is linked to capitalism, while the second position is linked to socialism and Russia.

According to Ludwig von Mises, "It is the aim of Socialism to transfer the means of production from private ownership to the ownership of organized society, to the State.

The socialist State owns all material factors of production and thus directs it." In other words, socialism signifies the concentration of economic power in the hands of government officials acting in the name of the state. The concentration of economic power naturally implies the concentration of all power - including international power.

It is oddly significant, in this context, that the first socialist country was Russia, where the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics was born. Russia thereby became the "motherland" of socialism, from whence all international socialists drew their strength.

Over 110 years ago Gustave Le Bon wrote The Psychology of Socialism.

According to Le Bon, the fundamental problem of socialism is found in the dangerous misfits who support the socialist cause. Le Bon warned against a host of degenerates and failures who "are made at great expense by our colleges and universities." Le Bon explained that these superfluous "graduates, licensees, instructors and professors ... will one day, perhaps, constitute one of the most serious dangers against which society will have to defend itself." As he further explained, "Notwithstanding their diversity of origin, they are united by one common sentiment - hatred of the civilization in which they can find no place."

What Le Bon could not have foreseen, however, was something that Ludwig von Mises recognized decades later: "The subversive activities of these professional plotters are dangerous precisely on account of the naivety of those who are merely flirting with the revolutionary idea.

Those confused and misguided sympathizers who call themselves 'liberals' and whom the communists call 'useful [idiots]'...." The fellow-traveler plays with socialism. And whether he realizes it or not, he has been tricked along with the communists into supporting Russia's grand strategy. "The distinctive mark of all present-day communist parties," wrote Mises, "is their devotion to the aggressive foreign policy of the Soviets. Whenever they must choose between Russia and their own country, they do not hesitate to prefer Russia."

The above statement is true today, despite the so-called "collapse of communism." On the fundamental issue of foreign policy, the useful idiots align themselves with Moscow. What Mises wrote more than half a century ago is still true today: "They strictly obey all orders issued from Moscow. When Russia was an ally of Hitler, the French communists sabotaged their own country's war effort and the American communists passionately opposed President Roosevelt's plans to aid England and France in their struggle against the Nazis.

The communists all over the world branded all those who defended themselves against the German invaders as 'imperialist warmongers.' But as soon as Hitler attacked Russia, the imperialist war of the capitalists changed over-night into a just war...."

The same dynamic plays out today, in terms of the Islamic threat, and the threat from Iranian nuclear weapons. The United States is blamed as an aggressor in the Middle East, just as the Western powers were blamed at the outset of World War II. The West must always apologize, along with Israel, for its alleged exploitation of the Third World. The tendency of this propaganda is to disarm the West morally, psychologically, and physically. To prove our good intentions, we now rush to the negotiating table with the intention of laying down our nuclear arms. Meanwhile, the Russians are helping the Iranian clerical regime to develop nuclear arms. Russia has agreed, as well, to give nuclear technology to Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.

As America turns to socialism, the grand strategy of the United States turns to appeasing Russia. This is because socialism (as an overall movement) signifies the consolidation of Russian and Chinese power over the entire planet, whether the socialists realize it or not. This also explains why American socialists have always denounced the wickedness of the U.S. "military-industrial complex." One might ask the question, "Aren't American socialists in favor of their own country's survival?"

To answer this question, we must turn to abnormal psychology.

"Modern socialism is far more a mental state than a doctrine," wrote Gustave Le Bon in the 1890s. "What makes it so threatening is not the very insignificant changes which it has so far produced in the popular mind, but the already great changes which it has caused in the mind of the directing classes. The modern bourgeoisie are no longer sure of their rights. Or rather they are not sure of anything, and they do not know how to defend anything."

Soros: China should lead ‘new world order’

China should step up to the plate as the leader of a new global economic order, and the US shouldn't fear the establishment of a global currency because it would help the economy, billionaire investor George Soros says.

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Soros said that China hasn't been pulling its weight in reorganizing the global economy after last year's economic collapse, and the way to convince China to lead is to allow it to "own" the reorganization of the global financial system that is underway.

"You really need to bring China into the creation of a new world order, a financial world order," Soros told FT. "They are kind of reluctant members of the IMF. They play along, but they don’t make much of a contribution because it’s not their institution. ... They have to own it the same way as, let’s say, the United States owns the Washington consensus, the current order, and I think this would be a more stable one where you would have co-ordinated policies. I think the makings of it are already there because the G20, in agreeing to peer reviews, effectively is moving in that direction."

Peer reviews are a mechanism by which members of the G20 club of economic powers can review other members' economic performance and warn those members of dangers to their economies.

Soros also advocated for the creation of at least a limited global currency, which he says would help reduce the imbalances in the global economic structure and would actually benefit the United States, whose dollar currently acts as a de facto global currency.

Obama: "We Welcome China's Rise"

China's rapid growth is often painted as a threat to American interests. But President Obama said today that the country's economic progress benefits the United States and opens the door to greater international stability and humanitarian progress.

"We welcome China's rise," Mr. Obama said at a press conference at the White House with Chinese President Hu Jintao. "I absolutely believe that China's peaceful rise is good for the world, and it's good for America."

He added, "We just want to make sure that that rise occurs in a way that reinforces international norms and international rules, and enhances security and peace, as opposed to it being a source of conflict either in the region or around the world."

Mr. Obama acknowledged today that China's poor human rights record remains a "source of tension" between the two countries. However, he said the nation's development will lift millions out of poverty, "and that's a positive good for the world, and it's something that the United States very much appreciates and respects."

The president also pointed out that China's rise gives the U.S. an opportunity to boost exports.

"We want to sell you all kinds of stuff," Mr. Obama said to laughter. "We want to sell you planes, we want to sell you cars, we want to sell you software. And as President Hu and his government refocuses the economy on expanding domestic demand, that offers opportunities for U.S. businesses, which ultimately translates into U.S. jobs."

Mr. Obama noted that the United States economy is still three times larger than China's, despite the U.S. having one-quarter of China's population. While China has a long way to go to catch up the U.S., he said, its growth means increased trading opportunities between the two nations.

A more robust China will also give the U.S. a stronger partner on international issues like counter-terrorism efforts and climate change, Mr. Obama argued -- so long as China functions as a responsible actor on the world stage.

"That is something that can help create stability and order and prosperity around the world, and that's the kind of partnership that we'd like to see," he said.

President Hu reiterated that point.

"I would like to stress here that no country can remain unscathed in the face of so many global challenges," Hu said. "And no country can single handedly tackle global challenges."

Can't meet world economically on our terms: Obama

MUMBAI: Implicitly acknowledging the decline of American dominance, Barack Obama on Sunday said the US was no longer in a position to "meet the rest of the world economically on our terms".

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Mumbai, he said, "I do think that one of the challenges that we are going face in the US, at a time when we are still recovering from the financial crisis is, how do we respond to some of the challenges of globalisation? The fact of the matter is that for most of my lifetime and I'll turn 50 next year - the US was such an enormously dominant economic power, we were such a large market, our industry, our technology, our manufacturing was so significant that we always met the rest of the world economically on our terms. And now because of the incredible rise of India and China and Brazil and other countries, the US remains the largest economy and the largest market, but there is real competition."

"This will keep America on its toes. America is going to have to compete. There is going to be a tug-of-war within the US between those who see globalisation as a threat and those who accept we live in a open integrated world, which has challenges and opportunities."

The US leader disagreed with those who saw globalisation as unmitigated evil. But while acknowledging that the Chindia factor had made the world flatter, he said protectionist impulses in US will get stronger if people don't see trade bringing in gains for them.

"If the American people feel that trade is just a one-way street where everybody is selling to the enormous US market but we can never sell what we make anywhere else, then the people of the US will start thinking that this is a bad deal for us and it could end up leading to a more protectionist instinct in both parties, not just among Democrats but also Republicans. So, that we have to guard against," he said.

He pointed out that America, which once traded without bothering about barriers put up by partners, could not promote trade at its own expense at a time when India and China were rising. "There has to be reciprocity in our trading relationships and if we can have those kind of conversations - fruitful, constructive conversation about how we produce win-win situations, then I think we will be fine."

Obama's remarks at the town hall meeting exposed his tremendous anxiety over the failure of his policies to spur the US economy fast enough and create jobs for Americans facing nearly 10% unemployment rate.

Obama, who just lost control of the House of Representatives to the Republicans, unbashedly said the objective of his visit was to find jobs for his voters. "I want to make sure we are here because this will create jobs in the US," he said, but stressed he was for a kind of relationship which will create jobs in India as well. As he put it: "A win-win proposition."

However, his frank remarks on the need for US to square up to Asian competitors may also suggest that the spectre of action against outsourcing may recede as protectionist impulses may have to be balanced by the need to bag contracts to deliver more jobs in America. Going by media reports in the US of his first day in India, his focus on jobs and investments was well received.

While replying to a question on how Republican gains would affect US policy towards India, he switched to a larger exposition of how he saw new realities shaping geo-politics and the economy. Saying the competition from India and China was potentially a good thing, Obama suggested that the US had to face up to a changing world order.

Responding to a query that his own message of change had been delivered to him by the American electorate, a thoughtful Obama said the last couple of years had been worse for the US economy than has been the case for decades. There had been progress but not fast enough. "Unemployment is high and people are frustrated," he said.

In the context of his efforts to revive the US economy, the president clearly sees, as he wrote in an article, India and China as key drivers of economic growth.

Self-serving politics and terrorist-abetting news scoops are more important to you than our national security or the lives of innocent civilians and Soldiers. Yes, I'm questioning your patriotism. Your loyalty ends with self. I'm also questioning why you're stealing air that decent Americans could be breathing. You don't deserve the protection of our men and women in uniform. You need to run away from this war, this country. Leave the war to the people who have the will to see it through and the country to people who are willing to defend it.

No, Mr. President, you don't get off the hook, either. Our country has two enemies: Those who want to destroy us from the outside and those who attempt it from within. Your Soldiers are dealing with the outside force. It's your obligation to support them by confronting the AXIS OF IDIOTS.

America must hear it from you that these self-centered people are harming our country, abetting the enemy and endangering our safety. Well up a little anger, please, and channel it toward the appropriate target. You must prosecute those who leak national security secrets to the media. You must prosecute those in the media who knowingly publish those secrets.

Dictator Obama and Reaching the Point of No Return

As very few of our Congressional elected officials—Democrats AND Republicans—are taking any actions or exhibiting any desire to stop the Obama Dictatorship and We-the-People are now being completely left out of any and all legislation that directly affects us, I can only surmise that we as the Nation of the United states of America may have reached the point of no return in our rapidly forced descent into totalitarianism.

From the anti-American and anti-human recently-passed Congressional bills, I have also concluded that—as these self-same elected officials no longer care what their constituents think—our attempts to stop the insanity of government officials summarily stripping us of our own money and our Constitutionally guaranteed liberties via peaceful means may have now come to an end. They haven’t worked. In actuality, even our September 1.7 millions-person-march on Washington D.C. in opposition to ObamaCare and Cap and Tax barely elicited yawns from both the Executive and Legislative branches of government—the ones the American people elected to office in the first place. Instead, delivering yet another slap to the faces of the American people, Obama skipped town that day to be fawned over by a hand-picked crowd of his supporters in Minnesota.

How did this dismantling occur?

The beginnings of the Progressive/Communist/Marxist movement began in the US—in earnest—under Democrat President Woodrow Wilson and was expanded in the 1920s by ACLU founder Roger Nash Baldwin. There are many books and articles written about Baldwin—I’ve written a few also—so if you wish to research his or Wilson’s progressive and pro-communist backgrounds, I encourage you to do so. In this column, however, I will concentrate on more recent events leading to our demise.

The Beginnings of Recent Leftist Democrat Destruction's

Established in 1977 under then leftist President Jimmy Carter, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was enacted to force banking institutions to provide loans to low income people—many of whom could not or simply did not pay the loans back. As well as being used as a liberal/leftist slush fund, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were utilized to finance the mortgages of low-income individuals who could not qualify to purchase a home under traditional 30-year fixed financing. So, ARMs (adjustable rate mortgages) were given to the unqualified buyer. Beginning with extremely low mortgage payments, the unqualified-under-any-sane-circumstances buyer “bought” his or her home. The problem—just as if it had been planned—came when the mortgage rates increased, balloon payments came due and the ARM buyers paycheck didn’t increase at the same rate as his mortgage payments did. The marginal buyers were in trouble and, then, so was the economy.

The Leftists’ intermediary move to better Ensure the Deal?

To top that off, on 15 September 2008—under two months prior to the US Presidential and General elections—a coordinated and as yet “culprits-unnamed” draw-down on money market accounts to the tune of $550Billions in under 2 hours (a run on the banks) was announced by the Federal Reserve. It quickly pumped $120Billions into the system, temporarily shut down the Reserve and announced if it had not done so, by 3:00 p.m. that same day $5.5Trillions would have been lost by the USA alone and the world economic system would have crashed and burned.

Hmmm. Was this run on the banks and potential destruction of the economic system a way to better ensure Obama would be installed as POTUS? I don’t know but, it was certainly highly “coincidental” wasn’t it? This bank-run caused President Bush—under the prodding of the Democrat-run Congress—to call for TARP or “Troubled Asset Relief Program“ to be instituted. Note: It appears that the economy was doing too well for the Left to take any more chances that their Marxist candidate wouldn’t win. So…the run on the banks was necessary. What a movie this will make. But, who will play Obama? Will Obama soon control the film industry—at least the small portion he doesn’t currently dominate?

Change You Can Believe in but, Are Not Allowed to Know

The US POTUS Candidate (who may or may not be a US citizen—“Don’t ask don’t tell” is Obama’s motto on his birth certificate issue) Barack Hussein Obama was chosen by US and World leftists as their representative to employ and conduct the fast, furious and final disintegration and desolation of the United States of America. And, Obama is conducting a brilliant campaign of doing so. In just a few short months Obama has brought the USA to its knees and terrorists everywhere to wild and unbridled applause. In just 9 months, Obama and his minions (including his Uber-Marxist Czars) has stolen more money (and continues to do so) from We-the-People than all other POTUS’ in history—combined. And he is redistributing it to his cronies and countries of choice—with a few bucks trickled down to the voting poor. Obama has vowed to shove his Cap and Tax and government-run ObamaCare down the throats of the American people. This is despite the facts that consistently the American people have polled in large majority against Cap and Trade (which will cause an energy-cost increase of between $2,000-4,000/year per family and eliminate millions more jobs), 80-85% of the American people polled have said they like their current healthcare insurance plans and do NOT want government-controlled healthcare (aka “public option”). Change has come folks. But, it no longer seems to be the change that those who voted for Obama thought it would include. And all of their “change” is now happening behind closed Democrat doors. We-the-People are neither invited to participate in our country’s business nor to make any more decisions regarding it. Our rulers have spoken—loudly.

The Real Mission of the World’s Left

In virtually everything they say and do, Obama, the US House of Representatives and the US Senate have made it crystal clear that they do not care what We-the-People want. They are now talking only amongst themselves and taking only their own counsel. They want control OVER us—purely and simply. And they’re gaining more and more of it each and every day. Cap and Trade (now called the “Climate Bill”) will not help the climate. But, it will take more of the people’s assets and give them to the UN. Did you know that Obama is planning to cede what’s remaining of US sovereignty in December at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen? See the video and article below. If they don’t send chills down your spine nothing will. The signing this treaty will place the United Nations in charge of US energy policy. Did you know that? And leftist Democrats are now openly running as Republicans. One prime example is that of New York’s 23rd District Dierdre Scozzafava. Scozzafava is pro-abortion, pro-big labor, votes to raise taxes and is supported by leftist groups including the Working Families Party, which calls itself “New York’s liveliest and most progressive political party.” The real conservative running in this race is Doug Hoffman. To add insult to injury, Newt Gingrich is supporting the radical Scozzafava. Note: More suspicions confirmed about Newt?

Endgame

The poorer and less educated countries become, the easier it is to control both said countries and their populations. And, with regards to ObamaCare, the fewer people in a country—the easier it is to control. Marxism is a feudal system, which incorporates the elite ruling class at the top and the soon-to-be-poor workers (aka proletariat) at the bottom working for the elites. The proletariat have nothing except that which their totalitarian government decides to “bestow” upon them. And the bestowing is not, by any stretch of the imagination, equal.

And from the 1963 Communist Goals for the USA (it took awhile but, Obama is now driving them through) are a few of the tactics used. The complete list can be accessed via the URL below:

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture—education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

Sound familiar? It should. It’s what the leftist Congress and Dictator-in-Chief have been using as one of their guidelines since they were elected.

And the endgame? It’s to control who can be controlled and terminate those who refuse. Simple process and to the point…don’t you think?

Don't Fool Yourself: America Is Now a Communist Nation

At last year's Alliance Conference, I urged folks to buy stocks – vehemently... It was the most bullish I've been in my entire life. But now I feel the opposite way. When the facts change, I change my mind. I never thought we'd see the government running $2 trillion deficits, taking over health care, owning all the banks...

The stock market seems to believe the government can solve all of our problems with paper money and bureaucratic mandates. My bet is, it doesn't work... at least, not for long. And given the choice between earning less than 1% in the bank and buying gold at $1,100 per ounce, I'm buying gold.

Watching the government rack up debts that will be impossible to repay while narrowing the tax base (at least 50% of Americans pay zero federal income tax) at the same time is very scary. Not only has the government gone mad with spending and corruption, but it also expects about 10% of the population to pay for essentially all the costs. The math simply doesn't add up: 10% of the population can't (and won't) pay for all of the costs of a socialist federal government. This has nothing to do with traditional party politics. Both parties have grown the size and responsibilities of government. Both parties have added to the national debt. And both parties support the narrowing of the tax base – because that's what makes good political sense in an unlimited democracy... Promise the voters they can live at the expense of their neighbors and future generations.

Unfortunately, we know from history this kind of political system can't last for long – for lots of reasons. One important reason: The rich will leave. Or they will stop working. They will hide their incomes or only invest in tax-protected vehicles. And we know the political response will be tougher laws on emigration, taxation, more money printing, and – eventually – capital controls that make it impossible to protect yourself from a massive currency devaluation.

That's the script. We've watched the same things happen dozens of times around the world following World War II and the introduction of a global paper currency standard, which allowed governments to run huge deficits and finance their activities through inflation and devaluation. We just never thought we'd see it happen here.

Today, the idea of leaving America in search of freedom and financial security seems like absolute madness. But it won't for long. And by the time most people wake up to the very real threats to their standard of living, it will be too late.

The trends I'm talking about are cultural and fiscal, not ideological. Read the original Communist Manifesto. It's nearly identical to today's government policies. Any politician who tries to oppose the landslide of modern entitlements is immediately labeled a kook and is unelectable.

Whether you think we ought to have free health care and drugs for retirees, more military spending than the rest of the world combined, a bankrupt retirement scheme based on government debt, government guarantees for the banks, etc. doesn't matter to me. I'm not interested in pie-in-the-sky ideas about how the world should work. I write about how the world does work.

And I can tell you this with 100% accuracy: You cannot support the world's reserve currency when you are the world's largest debtor, when you plan to finance annual deficits exceeding $2 trillion with progressive income taxes and money printing. Our economy is a charade. And when it falls apart, the consequences will be devastating.

Heavily progressive taxation, state-owned schools, government controlling the banks, printing the money, and owning manufacturing – these are not free-market ideals. They're the opposite.
