    Chris Matthews: Alinsky 'our hero'

    Saul Alinsky

Just five days after affirming on air that he is a liberal, MSNBC host Chris Matthews exclaimed that radical community organizer Saul Alinsky is one of his heroes.

Stated Matthews: "Well, to reach back to one of our heroes from the past, from the '60s, Saul Alinsky once said that even though both sides have flaws in their arguments and you can always find something nuanced about your own side you don't like and it's never perfect, you have to act in the end like there's simple black and white clarity between your side and the other side or you don't get anything done.

"I always try to remind myself of Saul Alinsky when I get confused," Matthews said on his "Hardball" show, speaking to guest Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, on the topic of President Obama's health care plan.

"It's complicated when liberals get to keep score. We're always arguing. Well, I'm a liberal, too," stated Matthews on the Dec. 17 program.

Alinsky is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing. He founded and trained community organizations to follow his methods, including organizations in South Chicago, where President Obama credits his political beginnings. The Washington Post reported Obama was hired shortly after graduating from college by a group of Alinsky's disciples to be community organizer on Chicago's South Side.

Former 1960s radical and FrontPageMagazine Editor David Horowitz describes Alinsky as the "Communist/Marxist fellow-traveler who helped establish the dual political tactics of confrontation and infiltration that characterized the 1960s and have remained central to all subsequent revolutionary movements in the United States."

Horowitz writes in his 2009 pamphlet, "Barack Obama's Rules for Revolution. The Alinsky Model":

"The strategy of working within the system until you can accumulate enough power to destroy it was what sixties radicals called 'boring from within.'.... Like termites, they set about to eat away at the foundations of the building in expectation that one day they could cause it to collapse."

As WND reported, Obama approached Northwestern University professor John L. McKnight – a loyal student of Alinsky's radical tactics – to pen a letter of recommendation for him when he applied to Harvard Law School. Under the tutelage of McKnight and other hardcore students of Alinsky, Obama said he got the "best education I ever had, better than anything I got at Harvard Law School."

In a letter to the editor of the Boston Globe, Alinsky's son praised Obama for stirring up the masses at the Democratic National Convention "Saul Alinsky style," saying, "Obama learned his lesson well."

The letter signed L. David Alinsky closed by saying, "I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully."

    THE CRISIS CREATORS
Exposing Barack Obama's secret strategy for transforming America

    Posted: January 01, 2010

    WorldNetDaily

The American electorate has watched in amazement for a year as the Obama administration has created unprecedented havoc and outrage throughout the nation.

And yet, the actual result of 2009's non-stop crises has been not just the dramatic transfer of wealth and power away from citizens and small businesses and into the hands of government, but also the beginnings of a profound transformation of America's economic and governmental system.

Is it possible that the Obama administration is intentionally creating crises for the purpose of converting America into a full-fledged socialist state? To many, such a conclusion sounds like an absurd conspiracy theory.

But for those knowledgeable about the modern history of the radical left, creating crises is simply how things get done.

Indeed, in one of its most powerful issues ever, the January 2010 edition of Whistleblower magazine – titled "THE CRISIS CREATORS" – documents conclusively that the Obama administration's primary modus operandi of governance is the transformation of America through wreaking havoc.

Following the classic radical-left strategy of the manufactured crisis, the Obama administration and Congress are creating crises in every area of life and policy.

They're wreaking havoc throughout America's capitalist, free-enterprise system by taking over major industries like banking, auto and healthcare. And by multiplying the national debt so astronomically that the only mathematically possible way to pay it off is with the printing press, which translates directly into the "grand theft" of Americans' hard-earned wealth through major inflation.

But it not just the economy. They're wreaking havoc also on America's national security, prosecuting U.S. soldiers for being too rough on terrorists, but rewarding confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed with a civilian trial in New York City and affording him all the powerful legal rights of an American citizen. And by badmouthing and apologizing for America overseas and bowing before Muslim kings, while scandalously snubbing leaders of America's few remaining allies like the U.K. and Israel.

They're creating crises in the nation's energy policy by stubbornly adhering to the controversial and now utterly discredited "global warming" theory and pursuing economically catastrophic legislation like "cap and trade." They're creating havoc in education by putting radical homosexual activist Kevin Jennings, notorious for sexually corrupting children, in charge of the safety of the nation's public schools.

In every area imaginable, as "THE CRISIS CREATORS" documents, the Obama administration is busily engaged in undermining and destroying the nation's key institutions – or as Obama himself euphemistically put it a few days before being elected president, "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America."

"For the last year," says Whistleblower Editor David Kupelian, "we've had it relentlessly hammered into our heads that America will self-destruct economically if we don't solve our cataclysmic healthcare crisis. But in reality, there is no healthcare crisis. We have the best medical services delivery system in world history. What about the poor and uninsured? In America, you can be an escaped-convict-illegal-alien-child-rapist, but if you get hurt and go to a public hospital, you will by law

"Of course, the government could easily create a simple safety net to help the small percentage of Americans who don't have health insurance," added Kupelian. "But they've never been interested in that. They're interested only in creating the illusion of a systemic and fatal healthcare crisis as a means of forcing socialism down free Americans' throats.

"And that's just one example. Manufacturing crises to force 'change' is how the radical left has operated for decades, and now that Obama, Pelosi and Reid are in power, fake crises and their terrible 'solutions' dominate life in America."
Highlights of "THE CRISIS CREATORS" include:
be taken care of, completely and totally, whether you can pay for it or not. That's not a broken system; that's the most magnificent system in the world."
    • "Empowerment by manufactured crisis" by Joseph Farah
    • "The crisis creators" by David Kupelian, on how leaders keep us dependant and off balance
    • "Manufactured healthcare crisis" by James Simpson, in which the former White House economist reveals the shocking truth about Obamacare
    • "How ACORN creates crises to bring about 'change'" by Jerome R. Corsi, who shows that, from voter fraud to subprime mortgages, the notorious group is a chaos machine
    • "Famous weather scientist: Climategate 'tip of iceberg'" by Bob Unruh, on expert who reveals "one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on the American people"
    • "U.N. climate chief cashes in on carbon" – exposing the global "climate change" leader's ties to a conglomerate that stands to make hundreds of millions in emissions scheme
    • "How U.N. redefined 'pandemic' to heighten alarm over H1N1" by Chelsea Schilling, on how and why the World Health Organization quietly changed the meaning of the scary term just before declaring "swine flu" a "pandemic"
    • "Swine-flu bribe fever!" by Chelsea Schilling, revealing links between the U.N.'s H1N1 scientists and companies making vaccines
    • "Obama's uncompromising inner man" by David Limbaugh, who shows how the president's "petty," "mean-spirited" personality pops out when he gets off teleprompter
    • "The left's religious-like dogmas" by Dennis Prager, who reveals that behind the seemingly secular political philosophy lies a fervent, irrational faith
    • "Are Obama, Pelosi, Reid mentally ill?" by Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., M.D., in which the veteran forensic psychiatrist explains the ‘disturbed personalities’ of the political left
    • "How politicians 'solve' problems" by Thomas Sowell, on the secret to understanding elected officials and bureaucrats
    • "The silver lining of the left in power" by Dennis Prager, who points out that finally, America gets to see what happens when statists rule the state
    • "When half gives and half takes" by John Stossel, who provides a glimpse of what happens when government stops creating crises

"Many Americans already know what is going on in their country, and are understandably horrified," said Kupelian. "But now, in THE CRISIS CREATORS, they'll learn exactly why and how it's all being accomplished. With that kind of knowledge comes the wherewithal to effectively fight back – and for millions of outraged citizens, fighting back is what 2010 is all about."

Default Re: Putin's Spies in America

    Our Revolting Elites

    by J. R. Nyquist
    Weekly Column Published: 1.15.2010

In 1995 Christopher Lasch came out with The Revolt of the Elites and the Betrayal of Democracy. The introduction was titled "The Democratic Malaise" and included chapters like "Does Democracy Deserve to Survive?" and "The Lost Art of Argument." The threat to our civilization, said Lasch, does not come from the masses. The threat comes from the elite. The masses have proved to be conservative. Against the most successful institutions and folkways in history, against the greatest civilization ever to arise, the elite revolted; and in the course of this revolt, wrote Lasch, "they betray the venomous hatred that lies not far beneath the smiling face of upper-middle-class benevolence."

Those of us who are not part of the elite's fashionable revolution are "racist, sexist and homophobic." We are fit objects for extermination or re-education because, in the end, we just don't get it. "Simultaneously arrogant and insecure," wrote Lasch, "the new elites, the professional classes in particular, regard the masses with mingled scorn and apprehension. In the United States , 'Middle America' -- a term that has both geographical and social implications -- has come to symbolize everything that stands in the way of progress: 'family values,' mindless patriotism, religious fundamentalism, racism...."

According to Lasch, there are far worse problems facing America than racism: "the crisis of competence; the spread of apathy and a suffocating cynicism; the moral paralysis of those who value 'openness' above all." Lasch saw an intellectual softening underway. He warned that culture "is a way of life backed up by the will to condemn and punish those who defy its commandments." As for the claim that we are now enlightened, he scoffed. The information revolution, he said, has not raised the level of public intelligence. It is no secret, he continued, "that the public knows less about public affairs than it used to know. Millions of Americans cannot begin to tell you what is in the Bill of Rights, what Congress does, what the Constitution says about the powers of the presidency, how the party system emerged or how it operates. A sizeable majority, according to a recent survey, believe that Israel is an Arab nation."

The crisis of competence is, perhaps, the most troubling problem of all. It comes in three forms: (1) as a general incompetence for living; (2) as an incompetence that wants to manage society, and determine economic outcomes through a redistribution of wealth; (3) as an incompetence through the lowering of professional standards. The first is less dangerous to society than the second, and the third compounds the second. In terms of a general incompetence for living (1): It may be said that people are no longer literate; that their attention span has been attenuated by television and is unsuited to the study of difficult subjects; that their health is ruined through fast food, soft drinks, and excessive indulgence in sweets; that the sexes are disoriented and no longer know how to live together or behave; that children suffer from poor discipline. What is shocking to discover, however, is that all of these things have been encouraged by the purveyors of (2): the would-be managers of society who rail against the market, against fatherhood, against punishment and discipline, and against the necessities of war.

"A lust for immediate gratification pervades American society from top to bottom," noted Lasch. "There is a universal concern with the self -- with 'self-fulfillment' and more recently with 'self-esteem,' slogans of a society incapable of generating a sense of civic obligation." Lash warned that there was a growing disinclination "to subordinate self-interest" to the general will. What makes a nation defensible is the willingness of people to subordinate their personal desires in time of war. An old veteran who fought in Vietnam once insisted to me that the anti-war movement was a selfishness movement. In C.S. Lewis's The Weight of Glory we find a chapter titled "Why I Am Not a Pacifist." In this chapter Lewis wrote that pacifism consists "in assuming that the great permanent miseries in human life must be curable if only we can find the right cure." Here in America we have an elite that is pathologically imbued with finding the right cure. Here the mediocrity of their thinking shines brightest.

Today's elite does not possess intellectual excellence. Arguably, they do not know what excellence is, because their whole education has come out of third-rate minds -- or worse. Our brightest people are taught remarkably stupid ideas in universities. What they have lost is a sense of history, which is the most important sense for those tasked with guiding society. As Lasch correctly noted, "History has given way to an infantilized version of sociology, in obedience to the misconceived principle that the quickest way to engage children's attention is to dwell on what is closest to home: their families, their neighborhoods; the local industries; the technologies on which they depend. A more sensible assumption would be that children need to learn about faraway places and olden times before they can make sense of their immediate surroundings."

It is not that President Bush was incompetent in managing the war in Iraq. The entire elite was incompetent, and Bush made this discovery, and was forced into a position of sorting out a mess caused by his underlings (and by himself). In the financial crisis we see the same forces at work. Every attempt to find a cure is worse than the disease. We move, therefore, from crisis to crisis, from catastrophe to catastrophe. If we had only educated our elite differently. If we had only given them history instead of what Lasch called "infantile sociology."

George Stephanopoulos in Russia: Skips Violence Against Journalists, Highlights Russian President's Love of Pink Floyd

    Tue, 04/13/2010 - 12:09 ET
    By Scott Whitlock

Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos reported live from Russia on Monday and Tuesday and, despite devoting 32 minutes to interviewing the country's President and other officials, never once brought up the hundreds of journalists who have been died mysteriously in the country over the last 17 years. On Monday, Stephanopoulos did challenge President Dmitry Medvedev on Iran, sanctions and other topics. But, on Tuesday, he conducted a softball interview, touting, "As a teenager, Medvedev saved for months to buy Pink Floyd's The Wall. You have a deep love of heavy metal. Where did that come from?"

He also parroted White House spin about Medvedev and Barack Obama: "...You can tell from my interviews with the two presidents that Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev like each other a lot. That may be because they're a lot alike."

Yet, Stephanopoulos never mentioned Anna Politkovskaya or any of the other 324 journalists who have met with suspicious deaths. His previous career may have been as a Democratic operative, but Stephanopoulos is a journalist now. Wouldn't this have been a great opportunity to challenge Russia's President on what's been happening to reporters?

On Monday, during one of the many segments to feature Stephanopoulos touring the country, he sounded like a tour guide. The GMA host lauded, "President Medvedev knows Russia is playing catch-up. But, the progress these past 20 years has been staggering.

Symbols of the new Russia are everywhere. Skyscrapers line Moscow. Shopping centers in Siberia. Fast food restaurants everywhere."

Stephanopoulos even talked to a group of Russian women on Tuesday, one of which included Katya Gracheva, a reporter for Russia Today. The subject was how Russia has been changing. Showing no interest in dead journalists, he vaguely asked, "How about the media?"

When Gracheva asserted, "Five years ago, it was a completely different situation," Stephanopoulos asked, "Because they were just puppets controlled by the state?" Gracheva replied negatively and claimed she was speaking only of the low pay. Stephanopoulos dropped the subject and moved on.

In between segments on Russian architecture and what presents the GMA anchor would bring home for the rest of the on-air talent, couldn't have Stephanopoulos have raised this important topic just once?

A transcript of Tuesday's interview with Medvedev, which aired at 7:40am EDT, follows:
ROBIN ROBERTS: And now the public face of the new Russia. George focused on that a lot yesterday from Moscow. He's on his way back. But before that, he sat down again with the President. And found out there is more than meets the eye.

ABC GRAPHIC: Personal Side of Power: Russia's President on Rock & Religion

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Robin, you can tell from my interviews with the two presidents that Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev like each other a lot. That may be because they're a lot alike. They're both young. Medvedev's only 44. Their both former law professors who carry blackberries on their belt. But, here's on big difference: As far as I know, Barack Obama is not a big fan of 1970s hard rock. As a teenager, Medvedev saved for months to buy Pink Floyd's The Wall. You have a deep love of heavy metal. Where did that come from? Led Zeppelin. Deep Purple. Pink Floyd.

DMITRY MEDVEDEV (Russian President): That's from my childhood, my adolescence. I don't know. What music did you listen to at the age of 15, 20?

STEPHANOPOULOS: My wife makes fun of me. It was soft rock.

MEDVEDEV: Although I lived behind the Soviet Iron Curtain, the music seeped through. We listened to what the whole planet was listening to.

STEPHANOPOULOS: He was in living, then, in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, in an 430 square foot apartment with his university professor parents. Medvedev became a professor of law. And married his childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Svetlana. The President cut his political teeth, as the Soviet Union was crumbling, working side-by-side in the St. Petersburg mayors office with a former KGB officer, Vladimir Putin. They rose together. Medvedev was President Putin's first chief of staff. They remained close, friends and competitors. But, as you saw in my interview, Medvedev says he's the boss now.

MEDVEDEV: If you consider the questions of foreign and domestic politics and defense, security, this is only the president and no one else.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Medvedev is more modern. Logging on to the web when he wakes up.

MEDVEDEV: I go to official sites and journals. I go to international sites. And you would be surprised. I go to sites of the opposition.

STEPHANOPOULOS: He hits the gym, too, most days for an hour. And he was very publicly unhappy with how the Russians performed in Vancouver. You had a rough Olympics.

MEDVEDEV: Yes because for the first time, we had a steep decline in medal count. This is not a national disaster. But, we have to learn a lesson from this. We should prepare better next time because when you host Olympic games, you are counting on many medals.

STEPHANOPOULOS: And perhaps, praying. Unlike his recent Russian predecessors, Medvedev is more public with his faith. You were brought up in Soviet Russia, without religion. Yet, at the age of 23, you walk into a church to become baptized. Why?

MEDVEDEV: I did feel that I needed it. I wanted to do it. I believe it's good for me because afterwards, my life changed. You don't really talk aloud about something like that because the religious feelings should be somewhere deep inside you. If someone is displaying it, they're not really honest. It's more like PR for yourself. But I believe religion is important for every person. Don't you think so?

STEPHANOPOULOS: I found Medvedev to be much more open, less scripted and defensive than I expected. He also had a bit of a swagger coming off the successful arms negotiations with President Obama. As for his future, the next elections here are in 2012. And he said he's going to sit down with Prime Minister Putin. And they're going to talk about who will be the candidate. That should be quite a conversation, Robin.

Wake up, America: Democrats aren’t Democrats Anymore, They’re Communists

    By Fred Dardick
    Wednesday, May 5, 2010

So-called “moderate Democrats” are merely socialists

And the so-called “moderate Democrats” are merely socialists.

It wasn’t so long ago that much loved Democrat President John F. Kennedy told the nation in his inaugural address, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”, implying a sense of self sacrifice was needed by all Americans to keep the torch of freedom burning bright in a world filled with tyranny.

An idea most could relate to regardless of political affiliation.

But times have changed and modern liberal philosophy has become almost unrecognizable to previous generations. It can be more accurately described as: “Forget personal sacrifice, keep sitting on your behind, and let the government rob your neighbor for you.”

Democrat political aims no longer share the fundamental ideals that have served this nation so well for so long. Rather than put their trust in the righteousness of the American individual, their intention is to transfer as much power as possible to the collective, as represented by the federal government.

President Barack Obama outlined his openly communist thinking at a University of Michigan commencement address this past weekend when he said “When our government is spoken of as some menacing, threatening foreign entity, it ignores the fact that in our democracy, government is us.”

    What is he talking about?

First off, you have to be out of your mind to not be at least a little skeptical of an entity that can force you from your home, take away your money, incarcerate you, and ship you off to war … all for sometimes less than perfect reasons.

That’s an awful lot of power just begging to be misused by unscrupulous politicians, and a community organizer should know it. I seem to recall Obama having a real big problem with government not so long ago when we invaded Iraq.

Our founding fathers were right to be fearful of centralized government. They knew from their experiences with the kings of Europe that a small number of people with unchecked power could not be trusted. It wasn’t necessarily unheard of for the ruling class to turn on the common folk and start nailing people to trees.

Obama’s statement “government is us” is likewise absurd.

Government isn’t we the people … I know it sure isn’t me. There’s a whole lot of what the government is up to that doesn’t exactly meet with my approval and I highly doubt Democrats will be contacting me anytime soon for my input.

Obama’s much beloved “government is us” is a collection of few elected officials and a whole lot of overly paid unionized bureaucrats, most of whom willing to do almost anything to keep their jobs.

It’s a representative government and it tends to work best when people of character inhabit the halls of power. Unfortunately it also leaves a lot of room for unethical politicians to stick it to the nation.

Take the healthcare bill for instance. Never has been a more egregious example of political corruption than that obscenity: abuse of power, against the people’s wishes, dire economic consequences for the country … ObamaCare has it all.

Karl Marx himself would be proud.

In the old way of doing things, the House and Senate would pass their bills. Both versions would go to committee where differences were hashed out. Then back to the House and Senate for a final vote.

Pretty standard stuff that has served the nation well for the past couple hundred years … then something happened in January 2010.

Scott Brown, a Republican, was elected to Edward Kennedy’s old Senate seat, and just like that the Democrats no longer had the votes needed to pass their freedom-killing legislation.

That should have been the end of the story, but Democrat politicians, like the communists of old, aren’t so concerned about the rules. As long as the state grows stronger and the individual grows weaker, they don’t much care how it gets done.

So they dug up a procedure called reconciliation and used it in a way that had never been intended, producing a bill that no one understood, or studied, or even had time to read before voting on it.

Obama signed the bill into law and so long democracy … ObamaCare is passed.

Only one month later and the Johnny Come Lately media is filled with reports about Medicare provisions that are “unsustainable” and economic provisions that are “unsustainable”.

Pretty much everything about the bill, including the medical profession as a whole, is “unsustainable”, and yet that piece of liberal fantasy is now law of the land.

White House Budget Director Peter Orszag explained the true purpose of ObamaCare when he said the “Independent Payment Advisory Board has the power and the responsibility to put forward proposals to hit a pretty aggressive set of targets over the long term, and furthermore, the proposals take effect automatically.”

First of all, government proposals that take effect automatically aren’t proposals, they’re laws.

And secondly, what Orszag really means is that a group of unelected bureaucrats in Washington will be given total control of our multi-trillion dollar healthcare system. You can forget about decisions being just between you and you doctor … whatever these people decide will be the last word in American healthcare. Period.

Obama somehow neglected to mention this particular aspect of the legislation during his 100 or so healthcare related speeches and press conferences. But then again, diehard communists never tell you the full story, they only tell you what you want to hear.

And if you’re not buying their nonsense, then you can stuff it because you’re a racist.

Lacking the votes to get any additional power grabs past the Senate, Democrat politicians are now pursuing even worse unconstitutional methods to force their state-first agenda upon the nation.

Rather than pursue Cap and Trade legislation, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson has declared that CO2 is a greenhouse gas and will start unilaterally imposing limits on static source emitters (power plants, factories, homes, etc…) starting in Jan 2010.

Obama appointee Craig Becker, also known as the Walking Card Check, was named to the National Labor Relations Board and given free reign to steal influence away from employers and hand it over to the unions.

The FCC is pursuing a takeover of the internet with their net neutrality regulations.

All without a single vote in Congress.

Each and every Democrat political priority can be broken down to a simple concept: they are all designed to take money and power away from individuals, families, communities, businesses, charities, and states and transfer it directly to the federal government.

Centralized government control of vital national resources, which pretty much means everything when you break it all down, is practically the definition of communism.

For those who would parse words and say that Obama and his Democrat cohorts are socialist, let me remind you, the Soviet Union was a constitutionally socialist nation, and look what happened to them.

The only difference between socialism and communism … is time.

'Socialist' Not a Slur for Many, Poll Finds 'Socialism,' Viewed
Negatively by Some, Is No Worse Than 'Capitalism' for Others

Branding President Obama a ?socialist? may not carry the sting some of his opponents hope it does, given a new poll which found young people have essentially the same feelings about the word ?socialism? as they do the word ?capitalism.?

Calling President Obama a "socialist" may not carry the punch some of his opponents had hoped for, given a new poll that found Americans are "not so negative" about the word and young people have essentially the same feelings about "socialism" as they do the word "capitalism."

Americans generally view the word "capitalism" more favorably than the word "socialism," according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, but respondents were "not so negative" about "socialism" and "not so positive" about "capitalism" as one might expect.

"'Socialism' is a negative for most Americans but certainly not all Americans. 'Capitalism' is regarded positively by a majority of the public, though it is a thin majority," read the Pew study, which found Democrats and young people rated the terms "about equally."

Young people, the survey found, "are more positive about 'socialism' -- and more negative about 'capitalism' -- than are older Americans."
The survey asked people to respond to the words themselves not the policies they inspire, leading some experts to wonder whether most Americans even know what the words mean.

Respondents younger than 30 were tied on their feelings about "socialism" and "capitalism," with identically positive reactions -- 43 percent - to both words.

The survey conducted among 1,546 adults in April measured reactions to nine political words and phrases.

"Overall, 29 percent [of respondents] say they have a positive reaction to the word 'socialism,' while 59 percent react negatively," according to Pew. "The public's impressions of 'capitalism,' though far more positive, are somewhat mixed. Slightly more than half (52 percent) react positively to the word 'capitalism,' compared with 37 percent who say they have a negative reaction."

The word "socialism" re-entered the political discourse as a smear against then-Sen. Barack Obama in the final weeks of the 2008 presidential campaign. It has again become a popular watchword among members of the Tea Party movement, who have blasted Obama administration policies, particularly health care overhaul, as socialist.

Conservatives Aim to Rally the Base

When conservative groups label the president or his policies "socialist," they are not trying to make a nuanced political argument but rather rallying the base with charged language, said Larry Sabato Jr., director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia.

The poll's scientific findings, he said, will not likely alter the way pundits and politicians pick their words, because they've chosen a "a word like 'socialist' to feed red meat to their base. "It's red meat for the ideological base, which either understand what the term means, or thinks they do, and they understand it to be a bad thing," he said.

"This is not language to change anyone's mind. This is preaching to the choir."

In October 2008, in the final days of the campaign, Sen. John McCain, R- Ariz., said Obama's economic platform smacked of the "tenets of socialism."

In July 2009, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said "yes" to a question about whether the president was a socialist. And Tea Party activists have used the word in recent weeks to protest health care and immigration overhaul on Capitol Hill and in front of the White House.

"'Socialism' has been used as an attack from the right on the left in the health care debate and in the last two weeks of election," said Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania who studies the use of language in politics.

She conducted a study at the end of the campaign "but didn't find any impact on voters from the use of the word 'socialism as smear," she said.

While still generally bullish on "capitalism," Sabato said, respondents may be "not so positive" about it because of the financial crisis and Wall Street bailout.

"To the extent that people understand what 'capitalism' means, they might have a dimmer view because of the news surrounding Wall Street," he said.

Hall said the poll's conclusion should not be interpreted to mean any shift in the country's thinking about these terms because many of the respondents may not have known what the words really meant.

    What Would Karl Marx Think?

"Do they know what either of these words mean?" Jamieson of the University of Pennsylvania asked rhetorically. "'Socialism' is not a word used in ordinary political debate nowadays. When people hear the word, what do they actually they think. Do they think of a political philosophy advanced by Karl Marx or do they think of someone being highly sociable. When they hear 'capital' do they think they big white building in Washington, or uppercase letters?"

The poll also asked participants to respond to other loaded political terms.

"Reactions to the word 'libertarian' are evenly divided - 38 percent positive, 37 percent negative," according to the poll. "On balance, Republicans view 'libertarian' negatively, Democrats are divided, while independents have a positive impression of the term.

"'Militia' elicits the most negative reaction of the nine terms tested: Just 21 percent have a positive reaction compared with 65 percent who have a negative response."

Default Re: Putin's Spies in America

    NBC Partners with Castro’s Intelligence

    Escape from Havana, Pedro Panes

Three times last week CNBC aired an hour-long special titled “Escape from Havana. “ “Between 1960 and 1962, more than 14,000 Cuban children were secretly flown to the United States to escape Fidel Castro, “reads the catchy CNBC teaser.

“Today, many of the Pedro Pans have thrived in America… Each has walked a long road and fought to overcome profound obstacles on their way to the American dream. In our documentary, you’ll meet a big-city mayor, an accomplished author, a singer, an activist, a professor, and a business leader. They were all part of a secret and improbable plan to escape a dictator’s rule and fly to freedom.”

CNBC seemed to promise love, war, danger, intrigue, heartbreak, and a heart-warming Horatio Alger finale. And indeed, accurately told, the story of thousands of Cuban parents desperate to save their children by spiriting them to the traditional land of the free as Soviet proxies Fidel Castro and Che Guevara tightened their grip around Cuba’s throat would provide all of the dramatic elements above—and in spades.

We still await such a depiction. Instead NBC gave us cleverly-disguised Castroite propaganda. The “professor” (Maria de Los Angeles Torres) whom “we meet,” on this program has a history of collaboration with the Castro regime, not that you’d guess it from her CV as presented by CNBC.

From CNBC’s production, you’d also never guess that the overwhelming majority of the “Pedro Panes” (as the Peter Pan children nowadays mostly call themselves) are immensely grateful both to their parents and to the U.S. for saving them from tropical Stalinism. This gratitude was expressed abundantly, but mostly by one of the showcased Pedro Panes, Yale professor and National Book Award winner Carlos Eire.

Some backdrop: at one point in 1961 Castro’s jails and forced labor camps held the highest number of political prisoners (per capita) on earth—higher than Stalin’s own during the Great Terror. Castro and Che’s firing squads were also murdering hundreds of Cuban patriots per week.

“Of course I knew the missiles were nuclear- armed, “responded Castro during a meeting with Robert Mc Namara in 1992. “That’s precisely WHY I urged Khrushchev too launch them. And of course Cuba would have been utterly destroyed in the exchange.”

“The victory of socialism is well worth millions of atomic victims,” boasted Chef Guevara in November 1962.

Getting your children out of a country run by the men on record for the mass-murders, mass-tortures and genocidal lusts mentioned above probably strikes many American parents as prudent.

But if your only resource for information on operation Peter Pan was CNBC (probably the case with 98 per-cent of non-Cuban American viewers) you’d come away convinced those Cuban parents (to say nothing of their children) were victims alight—but of the U.S.!

In brief, to hear professor Maria Torres who hogs a plurality of the program’s air-time, those hapless Cubans (including, apparently, her parents and herself) were dupes and pawns, shamelessly hornswoggled by the diabolical CIA as part of a Cold War propaganda ploy to further the goals of Yankee imperialism in Latin America. The CIA, she claims, fabricated a document claiming Castro’s regime would abolish parental rights (which is in fact what Communist regimes do) and spread it throughout Cuba to create the panic that led to the mass “escape.”

“They (the U.S. / CIA) were trying to convince Latin America that Communism is very bad,” explains the outraged Ms Torres about a U.S. film made about the operation that was distributed throughout Latin America. From her delivery, one can only gather that Professor Torres (who though a frequent visitor to Cuba has opted to live in the U.S. since 1961) does not regard Communism as “very bad.”

“But wait?” an observant viewer might also ask. “I thought you CNBC folks claim the operation was secret? And now you’re showing how it was blared and broadcast throughout the Western Hemisphere in the form of a movie?” Consistency, please, CNBC producers.

CNBC details how Ms Torres’ revelations of CIA villainy resulted from her study of reams of “recently declassified CIA documents.” More importantly, her research included Cuban documents, studied in Cuba. Maria Torres’ research, conducted while a guest of Castro’s KGB trained intelligence agents, included extensive interviews with former CIA operatives now in Cuba.

So let’s see here: Ms Torres has been repeatedly and graciously hosted by a regime our State Dept. classifies as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. These opened all Cuban doors for Ms Torres research. Prudent TV producers might ask themselves: “why?”

But NBC is probably untroubled by the obvious answer. After all, NBC itself has been similarly feted by Fidel Castro. To wit: In June 2007 Castro’s Stalinist regime held a “tourism fair” in Havana to kick-off an ambitious plan to boost the Cuban military’s tourist booty. By some peculiar coincidence NBC’s Today Show decided to broadcast from Havana that very week. Amidst smiling, dancing tourists, Matt Lauer and Andrea Mitchell advised viewers on how to circumvent U.S. law and legally vacation in Cuba.

Last week’s CNBC program included close-ups of the indignant professor Maria Torres conducting diligent research in U.S. government archives for her expose of CIA villainy. Interestingly, some U.S. Legislative and media documents reveal fascinating info on Maria Torres herself: “Maria Torres is a member of the Antonio Maceo Brigade,” reads the caption under her picture, taken in Havana in 1978.

Another U.S. government document titled, “The Role of Cuba in International Terrorism and Subversion: Subcommittee on Security and Terrorism, Ninety-Seventh Congress Special Session” contains the following: “The Antonio Maceo Brigade is specifically sponsored and headed by the Cuban DGI. (Directoria General de Inteligencia, Castro’s KGB/STASI trained Secret service.)”

But how could CNBC “overlook” this?

2004-05-24 - Elite Bankers Now Pulling Plug On US Economy & Currency!
6 years ago...the Euro was on the way up, the dollar on the way down. Now it's flipped. I believe this article was wrong.

The elite bankers were doing what they normally do. Create imbalances. They then stand at the middle and collect as currencies flow from one way to next.

This is why Goldman Sucks is a big advocate of Cap and Tax. They get to be the middle man, skimming off all the transactions.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."

    History of Unions in America

The hidden history of unions in America

Let me start things off by reminding you of what the president said at the beginning of his term: "Judge me by the people with whom I surround myself.”

OK, let's do that: radical Marxists and unions. Who was the number one most frequent guest of the White House? The former president of the SEIU, Andy Stern. Here's how the president describes his relationship with SEIU:

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Just imagine what we could do together.

Imagine having a president whose life work was your work.

    (END VIDEO)

It's almost like he puts the concerns of the union ahead of everything else, including the Earth. Did you know we could have had foreign help to clean up the oil spill if the president waived the Jones Act? He didn't do it.

The Jones Act is a 1920s law that requires vessels working in U.S. waters be built in the U.S. and be crewed by U.S. workers — no foreigners.

So the president doesn't have any problem with illegal aliens working and doing all kinds of jobs, but working on boats?

    Can't do that.

    Why?

    Unions.

The real ticking time bomb in this country is not the national debt, it's the debt to unions and union workers: pensions. The more things change the more they stay the same and that is the way many people in power like it.

If I asked you why we have unions, you would say it is out-of-control companies. But if I asked you what you knew about the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, you would probably say they were rich, industrialists, robber barons.

If I said tell me about the unions of that time period, you'd probably say they were for the little people and they helped make work fair for minority groups like the Irish, blacks, Chinese — but you'd be guessing.

Why is it that the Marxist, communist, progressive unions have a history that is fuzzy yet the capitalist robber barons are crystal clear in your mind? All you remember about unions is stuff like this union jingle.

Let's put the glasses of history on, by the end of this hour you will be able to identify these things: this guy, and this and this, this document affected millions of people until recently. It is a racist document from the labor unions. You will understand that, and then you will understand this.

Here are the facts on unions. They are destroying countries and states with their out-of-control pensions. Just the top 100 Illinois school administrators alone will be owed approximately $887 million. An administrator named "Gary," he can retire if he wishes — he's making $306,000. He'll end up making over $9.2 million during his retirement.

How can you pay for this? You can't and that's why this list exists:

"Highest default probabilities." Greece is at number two. Hugo Chavez's socialist haven is at number one. But notice, Illinois is ahead of California on the list. They are more likely to default than Latvia. And they are in the same ballpark as war-ravished Iraq.

Seriously, you progressives and unions are doing a bang-up job. Keep listening to them and not to the voices of reason like Chris Christie.

When you hear him speak, it's such clear common sense it's impossible to argue with. And the unions and progressives hate it because it's true and it exposes what many radicals are trying to do: Cloward and Piven

    — collapse the system.

The reason we have all of these problems with union pensions is because of an executive order signed by JFK in 1962 that granted federal employees the right to unionize. Go back further and you'll see that even FDR knew this was bad. He wrote a letter to the unions and everyone focuses on this part: "All government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service."

But I think the more important part is this: "I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of government employees." So does that mean violence is OK against private corporations and capitalism?

Go back further and you'll see that Marx and Engels were part of the trade union. The idea at the beginning was to make everyone equal: Pay the workers the same, treat them the same, give them the same benefits. Essentially unions could eliminate the class system, which is of course what the Marxists hate so much — those damn rich people.

I've always hated the "income inequality" argument — yes, people make different salaries. Get over it. Do I think Al Gore should make $100 million for what he does? No, but get over it. You'll never make as much as Al Gore or Nancy Pelosi. They have something you don't. I like to call them "connections."

There are a few things labor leaders won't tell you about their history.

Unions have a long history with deep communist and racist roots. You only hear about how unions heroically stopped greedy employers from sending 10-year-old kids to work in the coal mines for a dollar a day. But you don't hear stories like these about unions:

There was a union mineworker strike in Illinois in 1898. It ended in the unions (with the backing of the governor) telling blacks they couldn't have their jobs back — with the governor threatening to use the state militia to, "shoot to pieces with Gatling guns" any train bringing in black workers. The militia captain said, "If any Negroes are brought into Pana while I am in charge, and they refuse to retreat when ordered to do so, I will order my men to fire." Several black miners were murdered in the ensuing weeks. The AFL passed a resolution praising Governor Tanner and "Remember Pana" became a union mineworkers slogan.

Have you ever heard about the Davis-Bacon Act of 1931? It required federal construction contractors to pay local prevailing wages. It was created to protect northern and mostly white unionized construction workers from the southern, black, non-union construction workers. They feared blacks would be willing to work for lower wages and get all the jobs.

We've got more on the racist history of the unions coming up in a few minutes, but there's another historical aspect to unions they'd like you to ignore: communism.

If you think that it's not a big deal, does anyone remember California wanting to pass a bill that would have changed current law and allow communists to teach and use the public schools in California?

Here's the text: "Under existing law, a public employee is required to answer, under oath, specified questions, including, but not limited to, knowing membership in an organization advocating the forceful or violent overthrow of the government of the United States or of any state. This bill would delete these provisions."

Even though it was vetoed by Gov. Schwarzenegger, it's not stopping the unions from hiring teachers like this. In what universe would this be a good idea to take this out? Who would even think to bring this one to the table? Unless you are a teachers union looking to recruit more communist teachers.

We have a group that past presidents have said should not be able to organize in the government. Not only have they been able to organize, but they are going to be responsible to the biggest hits to our system. It won't be the banks that bring us down, it'll be the politicians and the unions. We have a president surrounding himself with Marxists and union leaders — unions that are stirring up hatred on the streets.

It's easy for me to say we have commies, unions, etc. who share the same goals as this administration. I don't want to say that. I can say it every day and it means nothing. I want to show you the history, built off what we've already showed you over the past few months. You decide: Do we have commies, unions and this administration sharing the same goals?

Khruschev: US fed small doses of Socialism, until they awake Communistic

    August 02, 2008 | 2:20

Dwight Eisenhower's Secretary of Agriculture, giving his first hand testimony of Khruschev's insidious prediction, which as we see is coming to full circle fulfillment by the aid of the traitors from within, David Rockefeller being one who boasts of such conspiracy on page 405 of his 2002 published book "Memoirs."

Indeed, American's are awaking (some anyway) to realize they are communistic, and have abandoned the principles that made the United States the envy of the world, the most prosperous, free nation upon the face of the globe.

    Smells progressive...

For US and Russia, it's now a walk in the park

By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer Ben Feller, Associated Press Writer Thu Jun 24, 5:58 pm ET

AP – President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev walk through Lafayette Park in Washington, …

WASHINGTON – The president of the United States and the president of Russia enjoyed quite a summer's day on Thursday: Grab some burgers, joke about Twitter, take a walk in the park.

No summit, no sanctions, no weapons treaty.

Yet they did strike a deal on chicken exports.

This is the new day, on intentional display, between President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. It's not all about nukes. Obama's first time hosting Medvedev at the White House will probably be remembered most for the extent to which they got along like a couple of buddies.

You want fries with that? Yes, they did. In fact, they shared some.

It was all a metaphor for two countries that were once at risk of Cold War annihilation, and just two years ago were back to cold shoulder animosity.

And for Obama, on an oppressively hot day, in the midst of a most difficult week, it amounted to a surprising chance to relax.

The buzz around the White House centered much more on the presidents' unexpected jaunt for cheeseburgers to Ray's Hell Burger in Virginia — Medvedev took jalapenos_ and less about the many substantive matters they discussed.

Obama acknowledged the topics seemed a bit foreign.

"You know, sometimes it's odd when you're sitting in historic meetings with your Russian counterpart to spend time talking about chicken," Obama conceded in describing an agreement to export U.S poultry products to Russia.

Video courtesy of ABC News. For more visit ABC News.com

Yet he said it was, in fact, a multibillion-dollar matter and a sign of something even greater: the ability of the United States and Russia to get beyond nuclear security, one of the areas in which both sides have made concrete progress in recent months.

Now they can talk more about trade, technology, space and sports.
The smiling Obama was a man in contrast to the one of day earlier, when he was forced to sack the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, for a magazine story in which the military leader and his aides had mocked and ripped administration leaders.

"We may be able to finally throw away those red phones that have been sitting around for so long," Obama said, evoking the symbol of scary U.S.-Russia relations. Obama said that was doable because both men have Twitter accounts, although he flubbed the line, calling the social networking site "Twitters."

Upon questions from reporters, Obama said there will be no more firings in the chain of command over Afghanistan, although he will be sternly monitoring his team. Medvedev seemed reluctant to wade into the topic, recalling the ultimately disastrous Soviet invasion of Afghanistan decades ago.

"I have quite friendly relations with President Obama," he deferred, "but I try not to give pieces of advice that cannot be fulfilled."

The presidents showed solidarity on a range of matters:

    • Coordinated humanitarian aid for Kyrgyzstan, wracked by deadly unrest in the wake of the president's ouster there.

    • Russia's push to join the World Trade Organization, which has stalled.

•Obama endorsed wholeheartedly the idea as a matter of world interest.

    • Concerted efforts to get lawmakers in both countries to ratify a new deal that would reduce the nuclear weapons of both nations.

Where there was conflict, even that was framed in an upbeat way.

The United States is still at significant odds with Russia over the fallout of its war with Georgia just two summers ago, back when tensions were soaring. Obama used code, saying "we addressed those differences candidly," and Medvedev agreed.

Both said they could thrive even despite disagreements.

And nothing says harmony like busting out of the White House for burgers.

The photo of the day showed Obama and Medvedev squeezed into a table with their interpreters, chowing down at the restaurant.

"An interesting place, which is typically American," is how Medvedev described it later in an East Room news conference. "Probably it's not quite healthy. But it's very tasty. You can feel the spirit of America."

Obama and Medvedev had met six times before in spots across the globe, including last summer in Moscow. Yet this was the first time in 17 months that Obama had played host to the Russian president at the White House, and Medvedev got a rare bit of special treatment.

For an appearance at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a block from the White House, the presidents skipped the motorcade.

Instead they strolled through Lafayette Park, side by side, suit coats slung over their shoulders. The gathering spot had been cleared of tourists for security.

Until the next visit, Medvedev promised that he and Obama would stay in touch.

Just to underscore the point, he said when the two talk by phone, they really talk. The last chat was a personal record: 1 hour and 45 minutes.

White House scholar funded Ayers group
Obama chaired organization that promoted radical causes

    Vartan Gregorian

TEL AVIV – A scholar and charity head appointed to President Obama's White House Fellowships Commission served as a point man in granting $49.2 million in startup capital to an education reform project founded by Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and chaired by Obama.

Documentation shows the White House fellow, Vartan Gregorian, was central in Ayers' recruitment of Obama to serve as the first chairman of the project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, or CAC – a job in which Obama worked closely on a regular basis with Ayers.

Obama also later touted his job at the CAC as qualifying him to run for public office, as WND previously reported. Gregorian, president of Carnegie Corp. charitable foundation, was appointed by Obama last year as a White House fellow. Born in Tabriz, Iran, Gregorian served for eight years as president of the New York Public Library and was also president of Brown University.

In his role as Brown president, Gregorian served on the selection committee of the Annenberg Foundation, which funded Ayers' CAC with a $49.2 million, 2-to-1 matching challenge grant over five years. Ayers was one of five founding members of the CAC who wrote to the Annenberg Foundation for the initial funding.

Steve Diamond, a political science and law professor and a blogger who has posted on Obama, previously posted a letter from Nov. 18, 1994, in which Gregorian, serving as the point man on Annenberg's selection committee, asked Ayers to "compose the governing board" of the CAC's collaborative project with "people who reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of Chicago."

Ayers and other founding CAC members then recruited Obama to serve as the CAC chairman.

WND was first to expose that Obama and Ayers used the CAC grant money to fund organizations run by radicals tied to Ayers, including Mike Klonsky, a former top communist activist who was a senior leader in the Students for a Democratic Society group, a major leftist student organization in the 1960s from which the Weathermen terror group later splintered.

National Review Online writer Stanley Kurtz examined the CAC archives housed at the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago, finding Obama and Ayers worked closely at the CAC.

The documents obtained by Kurtz showed Ayers served as an ex-officio member of the board that Obama chaired through the CAC's first year. Ayers also served on the board's governance committee with Obama and worked with him to craft CAC bylaws, according to the documents.

Ayers made presentations to board meetings chaired by Obama.

Ayers also spoke for the Chicago School Reform Collaborative before Obama's board, while Obama periodically spoke for the board at meetings of the collaborative, the CAC documents reviewed by Kurtz show.

WND reported Obama and Ayers also served together on the board of the Wood's Fund, a liberal Chicago nonprofit that granted money to far-left causes.

One of the groups funded by the Woods Fund was the Midwest Academy, an activist organization modeled after Marxist community organizer Saul Alinsky and described as teaching tactics of direct action, confrontation and intimidation.

WND recently reported Jackie Kendall, executive director of the Midwest Academy, was on the team that developed and delivered the first Camp Obama training for volunteers aiding Obama's campaign through the 2008 Iowa Caucuses.

Camp Obama was a two-to-four day intensive course run in conjunction with Obama's campaign aimed at training volunteers to become activists to help Obama win the presidential election.

Obama scholar linked to 'Ground Zero' imam

Meanwhile, WND reported Gregorian is closely tied to the Muslim leaders behind a proposed controversial Islamic cultural center to be built near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Gregorian also serves on the board of the Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum. The museum is reportedly working with the American Society for Muslim Advancement, whose leaders are behind the mosque, to ensure the future museum will represent the voices of American Muslims.

"[The Sept. 11 museum will represent the] voices of American Muslims in particular, and it will honor members of other communities who came together in support and collaboration with the Muslim community on September 11 and its aftermath," stated Daisy Khan, executive director of the society.

The future Sept. 11 museum's oral historian, Jenny Pachucki, is collaborating with the society to ensure the perspective of American Muslims is woven into the overall experience of the museum, according to the museum's blog.

Khan's husband, Feisal Abdul Rauf, is the founder of the society as well as chairman of Cordoba Initiative, which is behind the proposed mosque to be built about two blocks from the area referred to as Ground Zero.

With Gregorian at its helm, Carnegie Corp. is at the top of the list of society supporters on the Islamic group's website.

Carnegie is also listed as a funder of both of the society's partner organizations, Search for Common Ground and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. Gregorian was a participant in the U.N. body's first forum, as was Rauf.

Rauf is vice chairman on the board of the Interfaith Center of New York, which honored Gregorian at an awards dinner in 2008.

    World domination

Gregorian is the author of "Islam: A Mosaic, Not A Monolith." According to a book review by the Middle East Forum, his book "establishes the Islamist goal of world domination."

A chapter of the book, "Islamism: Liberation Politics," quotes Ayatollah Khomeini: "Islam does not conquer. Islam wants all countries to become Muslim, of themselves." Hassan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, is quoted stating it "is the nature of Islam to dominate, not to be dominated, to impose its laws on all nations and to extend its power to the entire planet."

Gregorian himself recommends for Muslims a system he calls "theo-democracy," which he defines as "a divine democratic government" that, according to the book review, "would have a limited popular sovereignty under the suzerainty of Allah."

Rauf, meanwhile, has caused a stir with his proposed $100 million, 13-story Islamic cultural center and mosque near the corner of Park Place and West Broadway – about two blocks from Ground Zero.
