Statehood requires congressional approval, plus a ratification process by all states if I recall. (I'd have to look it up, after all we haven't added to our "57" states since Hawaii).

I'm really not sure where those missing 7 states are either......

I still plan to jettison out when the opportunity arises. This goose is on a simmer and coming close to done. While I know we are still better off in many ways than most of the world, it really depends on what one requires. I do not need much as things go. I need a simple set of laws, oh like our constitution is which is relegated to pulp. I know of a country or few that are actually quite simple for living yet have the main amenities to ours, just without the bullshit.

Default Colorado Counties mull forming new state, North Colorado.

Colorado Counties mull forming new state, North Colorado.

GREELEY, COLO. – Officials in eight northern Colorado counties united in opposition to the state's new gun control laws and oil and gas regulations are reportedly considering forming a 51st U.S. state called North Colorado.

The Denver Post reports that a proposal to separate Weld, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma and Kit Carson counties from the rest of the state was hatched at a meeting of county commissioners last week.

Weld County commissioners Sean Conway, Mike Freeman and Doug Rademacher said they will conduct public meetings and decide whether to draft a ballot measure by Aug. 1., according to a report in The Greeley Tribune.

The U.S. Constitution requires that Legislatures must first approve any state that is to be created within its jurisdiction.

Commissioners said Thursday that failed legislative efforts to crack down on oil and gas, as well as increases in rural renewable energy standards were "the straws that broke the camel's back."

Conway told the Tribune that Weld County's main economic drivers, agriculture and energy, are under attack, even though those sectors contribute significantly to the state's economy. He said the county's return on its financial contributions to the state are minimal.
Commissioners are also concerned about the lack of funding for infrastructure and education and believe the split would allow them to leverage financial investments from energy companies in the region, the newspaper reported.

Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., whose district would be included in the split, said in a statement last week that he is sympathetic to the commissioners' concerns and doesn't blame them for wanting to form a new state, The Tribune reported.

"The people of rural Colorado are mad, and they have every right to be," Gardner said. "The governor and his Democrat colleagues in the statehouse have assaulted our way of life, and I don't blame these people one bit for feeling attacked and unrepresented by the leaders of our state."

Gov. John Hickenlooper's spokesman Eric Brown said in a statement obtained by the paper that "background checks on gun sales, increasing renewable energy and supporting responsible development of oil and gas are popular with rural and urban voters."

Lightning strikes twice: Giron second Colorado senator facing recall

    Ask me a question.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, June 10, 2013—One week after the Recall Morse committee made history by turning in enough signatures to recall senate president John Morse, Pueblo grassroots activists submitted a little more than 13,500 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office today to make Sen. Angela Giron the second legislator in Colorado history to face a successful recall petition drive in a week.

The Pueblo Freedom and Rights organization is unrelated to the Colorado Springs group that petitioned to recall Morse and is headed by brothers Victor and Adam Head.
Victor said that he started the recall effort after Giron completely ignored her constituents and voted for every gun control bill. Three of the four state representatives who collectively represent the same people as she does voted against them, Victor said. Two are Republicans, one a Democrat. According to Head, this is not a partisan issue—this is an issue of people’s rights and a representative who doesn’t listen to the people who elected her.

When the bills were brought up, Giron held two town hall meetings which she did not even attend in person. Video of one of the meetings shows a supporter holding a microphone to a cell phone as Angela calls in.

After refusing to take questions about the bills at those two meetings, Giron finally agreed to hold a third at the Rawlins Library in Pueblo. More than a thousand people showed up, all but a dozen opposed to the gun bills. People present say the room was at capacity, the library itself was at capacity and there were more people waiting outside—more than a thousand all told.

In local media, Giron said that she knew she was voting against the will of her constituents but, like John Morse in El Paso County, she decided to vote for the bills anyway.
Apparently she has been promised something for her vote.

The committee organized to support her has raised a little over $71,000. Almost all of it—98%—comes from the same three organizations that donated to Morse’s committee and in the same amounts: the Sixteen Thirty Fund, $35,000; Citizens for Integrity, $20,000; and Mainstream Colorado, $15,000. The committee is run by Ed Hall of Denver, the same Democrat party operative who is running A Whole Lot of People for Morse.

The recall committee, Pueblo Freedom and Rights, has raised a little over $10,000, almost all of it in small contributions under $20. Victor and Adam Head are members of the local plumbers union. Volunteers include members of carpenters and construction workers unions as well.

Under Colorado law, the number of signatures required must be greater than 25% of the total votes cast in the election that she won. In her case that number is 11,285.

Normally, petition gatherers try to get a cushion of 30-35% to account for rejected signatures. In this case, organizers Victor and Adam Head went to great lengths to make sure potential signers were eligible. In addition, they did not use any paid signature gatherers—all of the signatures were gathered by trained volunteers at locations throughout the district.

As in the Morse recall, the Secretary of State’s office will have fifteen calendar days to verify the signatures after which the Giron camp will have another fifteen calendar days to challenge them. If the recalls are upheld, it is likely that elections will be held in late August or September.

Sen. John Morse recalled: First Colorado legislative recall

    Ask me a question.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., June 3, 2013 — Petition signatures filed with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office are more than sufficient to recall state senator John Morse (D). The recall is the first recall of a Colorado legislator in the state’s history.

The Recall Morse committee filed over 16,000 signatures, more than double the required number.

In his position as the senate president this past session, Morse coordinated the passage of anti-Second Amendment bills over massive citizen opposition.

The recall is not official until the Secretary of State’s office certifies that there are at least 7,178 valid signatures, or 25 percent of the number of ballots cast in the election that Morse won in 2010. Organizers of the recall effort are confident that they have more than enough signatures to withstand scrutiny.

Although the number of signatures invalidated varies, organizers of petition drives in Colorado usually aim for one-third more than the required minimum number, making the challenge of recall that much harder. The recall committee absolutely knocked it out of the park despite the odds.

The Recall Morse effort was 100 percent grassroots.

Rob Harris, the leader of the effort, has never been involved in politics before. What got him involved was Morse’s dismissive attitude towards an email he sent Morse about gun control laws. “He said it was abusive,” Harris says, “which it wasn’t.”

Refusal to listen to his constituents is par for the course for Morse, who on national television described how he counseled fellow senators to ignore their constituents’ email and calls and vote for the gun control bills.

That arrogant attitude was cited more than any other by people signing the recall petition. A large number of people signing the petition said they had voted for Morse and wanted to fix their mistake.

“We want a representative, not a ruler,” Harris said. “Morse has tried to be a ruler and we’re firing him.”

Harris wanted to make it clear that the recall effort, like the other three recalls going on in Colorado, was entirely a grassroots effort. The NRA didn’t sponsor the recall (although they did do one mailing on behalf the recall), nor did any organization with out-of-state money.

In state, no Colorado gun rights organization nor any political party backed the effort.

Politicians in Denver and Washington DC need to know that the majority of people involved in this effort have never been involved in politics before, said Harris. People were motivated and willing to put in 40-50 hours per week outside of their normal jobs to make sure their rights are protected.

The recall effort was barely on the radar of even local news organizations, so unlikely did it seem to them that it would succeed.

Harris is a project manager by profession and he put those skills to good use during the recall effort. Every weekend there was a drawing for prizes among those who turned in the most signatures which included 30-round Magpul magazines.

This, reported the Colorado Springs Gazette, had never been done before.

The grand prize, a Glock pistol, was awarded Sunday to former state representative Larry Liston, who has been very active in collecting signatures.

Ironically, Senate District 11 was gerrymandered specifically for someone like John Morse, carved out of conservative El Paso County to provide a senate seat for liberals. The district is unique, containing liberals, libertarians and conservatives in roughly equal portions. District voters, regardless of party affiliation, are very concerned about their civil rights.

The signature gathering effort was helped by the Morse camp.

An issue committee formed to support Morse, “A Whole Lotta People for John Morse,” made robo-calls suggesting the petition-gatherers were criminals and perverts. The effort was so outrageous that it created a backlash, doubling the recall signature count overnight. Morse people dogged signature gatherers, attempting to be confrontational and pick fights.

Harris’s trained volunteers didn’t take the bait.

Similar tactics are reportedly being used in Pueblo against those seeking signatures in the recall against Sen. Angela Giron. The Pueblo effort is also completely grassroots, being spearheaded by two plumbers who are brothers and union members. In Pueblo, as in Colorado Springs, Democrats concerned about lack of accountability to their constituents and their own Second Amendment rights are signing petitions in droves.

The Recall Morse effort was buoyed over the Memorial Day weekend by half a dozen volunteers from Denver. Undeterred by their failure to collect enough signatures to recall Sen. Evie Hudak, these people boosted the numbers and spirits of the Colorado Springs volunteers.

“We have a number of people who are going to drive down to Pueblo and help them out in their last weekend,” said Harris.

The Secretary of State’s office has 15 business days to validate the signatures. After that, the Morse camp has 15 calendar days to challenge the findings. With double the number required, the outcome is all but certain.

hahaha. Well, separating from the state I suppose might be a better phrasing! lol

Basically they are recalling legislators in this state because of their anti-gun stance so we're fighting it here. The counties want to break off (along, it appears with some from Kansas I think it was) and form another state.

There is a similar sentiment in parts of NJ but no one is ever going to let it happen. My county is very red, I'd much prefer to be part of PA or the Commonwealth of Sussex County.

Well... thing is, the majority of the people in those counties agree. That's the issue. There's no one to "stop" them.

You don't need permission from the Federal government. You don't NEED permission from the State government. You just vote within the county and each county has the right and ability to hold elections in that county. If they vote to "secede" they can, but there has to be something in place to support them.

Only AFTER they secede can they apply for statehood.

Buchanan: Hispanic Influx From Immigration Bill Could Break US Into ‘Two Countries’

    June 23, 2013

On Andrea Tantaros radio show last week, conservative columnist and author Pat Buchanan warned of an unintended consequence of the immigration reform bill, a bill which doesn’t place a high priority on assimilation.

According to Tantaros, her previous guest, former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey, said that the immigration legislation funnels money to so-called community organizing groups like La Raza with the idea of teaching immigrants “American history, the Constitution and civic participation.” That leaves open the possibility of activist groups teaching with a partisan slant — and impedes assimilation.

Buchanan, author of “Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025?”explained that when different cultures are encouraged to assimilate, nations are susceptible to splitting apart, pointing to recent history as proof.

“With regard to the history and the teaching of it — this is one of the problems I’ve talked about when you have a single-culture single nation, you have basically a single culture,” Buchanan said. “If you indoctrinate or teach kids different views about what their country and how it began, what you get is a growing disintegration of the country, a fragmentation into different parts. And we see this happening all over the world. In the last few decades where ethnic groups and linguistic minorities and ethnic minorities, cultural minorities, given the pressures of ethno-nationalism, [they] are breaking up countries all over the world. It’s happening all over the Middle East. It happened in the Balkans where Yugoslavia broke up into seven countries. The Soviet Union broke up into 15 countries.”

And when immigrants don’t assimilate, as could be the case with the inflow Hispanic immigrants from the impending legislation, nations break up — a possibility he laid out with the United States.

“You put 100 million Hispanic folks in the United States and, say, 70 million on the southwest border. That becomes as much as part of Mexico as it is the United States,” Buchanan continued. “If they have a different language, different culture, a different faith — basically you get two peoples. And two peoples eventually become two countries. This is what I see as the future of America — the Balkanization and the disintegration of a country which become one nation back around 1960 when all the immigrants who came from Eastern and Southern Europe, 1890-1920, had been assimilated and American-ized. We all had gone through the Depression together, heard radio together, went through World War II together and American television — that brought us all together. And now we’re coming apart.”

Rasmussen: 26% Of Obama Supporters (And Shocking Number Of Gov’t Workers) See Tea Party As Nation’s ‘Top Terror Threat’

    June 27, 2013

A Rasmussen poll released Thursday indicates that 26% of President Obama’s supporters see the Tea Party as the nation’s “top terror threat.”

Perhaps more shockingly, a staggering 20% of government workers apparently hold a similar view, ranking the Tea Party as a greater national security risk than radical Muslims.

“Among those who Strongly Approve of the president, more fear the Tea Party than radical Muslims,” the report says.

The survey took place between June 22-23, 2013 among 1,000 likely voters. The sampling error is considered to be +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

The exact wording of the question was: “Which is a bigger terrorist threat to the United States today – radical Muslims, the Tea Party, local militia groups, the Occupy Wall Street movement, or other religious or political extremists?”

Among all likely voters, Rasmussen reports that 51% said radical Islam is the biggest national security threat, compared to just 13% who cited the Tea Party.

Among those who disapprove of President Obama’s performance, 75% said they consider radical Muslims to be the bigger threat, compared to just 1% who said the Tea Party.

And while 20% of government workers apparently view the Tea Party as a national security risk, only 13% of private sector workers responded the same.

The report comes as the nation struggles to reform the Internal Revenue Service, which admitted to targeting conservative organizations for (sometimes years of) additional scrutiny, and reports that the NSA has been archiving all Americans’ telephone records for security purposes.

I don't know MMCO... Rasmussen is generally a pretty reliable pollster.

All I can say is if it is true it doesn't bode well for the future especially if, as you mentioned, the numbers increase.

Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Earlier FNC had a Civil War historian on and even he said, on live TV as he wrapped the segment though I don't think Megyn Kelly caught it, there are many parallels between the division during the Civil War and now.
