Obama Blackmails Senator Kyl Over Border Security
June 20, 2010 On June 18, 2010, Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the audience at a North Tempe Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him, regarding securing the southern border with Mexico, “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’” [Audible gasps were heard throughout the audience.] Sen. Kyl continued, “In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

Sen. Kyl also said he reminded President Obama that the President and the Congress has an obligation, a duty, to secure the border.

(This part of Sen. Kyl’s remarks begins at the 3:17 mark of the video below.)

    It is treason...

Senator Kyl: Obama Said He Won’t Secure Border until Amnesty Passed

Obama is intentionally stalling on securing the border until he gets his way in Washington. No, that’s not a right-wing conspiracy theory. That’s what Obama said.

Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) talks about a conversation he had with Obama where the president told the GOP senator straightup that he was purposely not securing the border because he wants amnesty for illegals. Obama is refusing to fulfill one of his few constitutional duties for the sake of political expediency.

    (VIDEO)

This is exactly why I made the case for amnesty recently. Not because I like the idea - I despise it - but because if we don’t pass some form of amnesty, the border won’t get secured for at least two years, and probably longer.Watch Kyl talking about the exchange with Obama. The pertinent part comes at about the 3:00 minute mark.

Kyl: Obama Won't Secure Border Until Lawmakers Move on Immigration Package

    Published June 21, 2010 | FOXNews.com

Sen. Jon Kyl is shown at a June 18 town hall meeting in Arizona. (YouTube)

President Obama is refusing to secure the border until Congress reaches a breakthrough on comprehensive immigration reform, Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl said at a recent town hall meeting.

The No. 2 Senate Republican, in a video clip posted on YouTube showing the senator speaking to a local Tea Party crowd on Friday, said the president told him during a one-on-one meeting in the Oval Office that he was concerned he wouldn't win GOP support on immigration legislation if he took care of border security first.

"The problem is, he said, if we secure the border, then you all won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform," Kyl said, as the crowd in the room gasped loudly. "In other words, they're holding it hostage."

The White House denied the claim on Monday. Spokesman Bill Burton and Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer both said Kyl "knows" Obama did not make that comment to him in their meeting.

"The president didn't say that and Senator Kyl knows it," Pfeiffer said in a written statement. "There are more resources dedicated toward border security today than ever before, but, as the president has made clear, truly securing the border will require a comprehensive solution to our broken immigration system."

Burton repeated the claim at the press briefing Monday afternoon.
But Kyl's office stood by the senator's account. Kyl spokesman Ryan Patmintra said, "There were two people in that meeting, and Dan Pfieffer was not one of them." He said Pfeiffer's call for comprehensive immigration legislation "only confirms" Kyl's story.

And later, Kyl himself affirmed to Fox News the accuracy of his version: “I portrayed our conversation totally accurately ... The president cannot say that what I said was incorrect.”

While Obama has pledged to send an influx of National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, Kyl said in the clip that the president made clear to him that border security is just a political tool in the broader goal of passing an immigration package through Congress.

In the town hall meeting, Kyl said he was "not so sure" the president's concern about GOP support was legitimate, but that regardless, the administration has an "obligation" to secure the border.

"They don't want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with comprehensive immigration reform," Kyl said. "They frankly don't want to do it. They want to get something in return for doing their duty."

White House, Kyl feud over Obama conversation on immigration

    By Perry Bacon, Jr.

The White House and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz), the No. 2 man in the Senate GOP leadership, feuded Monday over immigration policy, as the Arizona senator said that President Obama personally told him the administration will not support stricter border enforcement until Republicans back broad immigration reform.

The White House strongly denied the claim.

At a town hall in Arizona on Friday, Kyl responded to a voter's question about immigration by detailing a one-on-one meeting he had with Obama. According to Kyl, "The president said the problem is if we secure the border, then you all won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform."

"In other words, they're holding it hostage," Kyl said at the event, a video of was circulated widely online on Monday, but not from Kyl's office. "They won't secure the border unless and until is it combined with comprehensive immigration reform."

Bill Burton, a White House spokesman, said, "The president didn't say that. Senator Kyl knows the president didn't say that."

"But what everybody knows because the President has made it perfectly clear is that what we need to do is everything that we can to bring about comprehensive immigration reform," he added. "And that includes not just securing the border, but doing a lot of other things."

A Kyl spokesman defended the lawmaker's account.

White House officials said the Obama administration has pumped more money and resources into border enforcement than ever before. In May, Obama requested Congress provide $500 million to fund additional enforcement, as well deploying 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S-Mexico border.

Kyl has called for $3 billion and 6,000 troops, a request Senate Democrats voted down after Obama announced his plan.

The dispute was the latest between Arizona Republicans and Democrats over immigration. Saying the federal government had not done enough to stop illegal immigration, Arizona's state legislature in April passed a law, then signed by its Gov. Jan Brewer (R), which gives police authority to check documentation of suspected illegal immigrants.

Obama has personally condemned the law and administration officials have suggested the Department of Justice might file suit to have it struck down.

The law, which goes go into effect on July 29, was supported by both Kyl and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

    Secure the DAMNED BORDER! NOW.

President Obama... that's an ORDER. You work for the people of this country, you don't work for yourself. You're a public servant.

Once the border is secured, then we can discuss immigration reform... which, honestly, what does that mean?

Immigration laws are fine as they are. You wanna come here to become a citizen, FOLLOW THE RULES.

Now, Mr. President, SECURE THE BORDER, THAT'S AN ORDER FROM YOUR BOSS!

Oh, and Mr. President, you can call me "Mr. Donaldson".
