Communist Bloc Military Updates: Kremlin to build 5,000 new bomb shelters by 2012

The Kremlin-run media reports that Moscow regional authorities have given the green light to architects to design and build 5,000 bomb shelters for the express purpose of protecting Muscovites from strategic nuclear attack. Moscow’s outdated shelters were built during the Soviet era and can house no more than one half of the city’s current population.

More emergency shelters are needed in Moscow’s suburbs, reports Russia Today. According to the requirements of civil defence authorities, the new shelters must be easy to build and will be situated 10 to 15 meters under apartment blocks, shopping centers, sport complexes, and parks.

Beginning in the 1930s, Soviet authorities built 7,000 bomb shelters throughout Moscow. Some subway stations were purposely built deep under the city to double as air raid shelters. In the early 1990s many shelters were privatized by entrepreneurs who transformed them into warehouses, parking lots, and restaurants.

The modernization of Moscow’s air raid shelter network is to be completed by 2012, which suggests that Missile Day will probably not take place before that date.

The US government has implemented no comparable program since the supposed end of the Cold War in 1991.

Question for dot.gov: If the Cold War is over, then why are Russian authorities building new bomb shelters?

Fact: There are only two countries that are capable of lobbing nuclear warhead-tipped ballistic missiles at Russia. One is Red China, with which Russia buried the hatchet in an open alliance formed in 2001. The other, of course, is the USA. So, ahem, got CD?

Incidentally, Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s civil defence czar, is an “ex”-CPSU cadre and related by marriage to Oleg Shenin, mastermind of the phoney anti-Gorbachevist coup of August 1991. Shenin died in 2009.

Last year, Shoigu visited Serbia, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua to help the red regimes there to set up “emergency situations” centers.

The “ex”-communist Socialist Party of Serbia holds several important government portfolios in Belgrade, including the interior ministry.

Another newsworthy development shows that Russia continues to prepare for war against its old adversary, the USA. Last Friday, two Tu-95 strategic bombers test-fired cruise missiles at targets in the Pemboi testing site during a 12-hour flight.

Pemboi is located in the internal republic of Komi.

The Bear bombers returned to the Ukrainka air base in Far East Russia. A MiG-31 interceptor jet and a Beriev A-50 Shmel airborne early warning aircraft also participated in the exercise.

Communist Bloc Power Plays in Eurasia and Latin America

Several weeks ago, the Russian Far East was the location of a multi-branch military exercise called Vostok 2010, personally observed by President Dmitry Medvedev aboard the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Peter the Great. In attendance were military delegations from Ukraine, which since February has boasted a pro-Moscow government, and the People’s Republic of China.

General Nikolai Makarov, chief of the Russian General Staff, dispelled any notion that Vostok 2010 was intended to be an unfriendly signal toward Red China. “The exercises took place on a vast territory near China, our ally,” he explained, adding: “So, it was quite logical to invite their representatives and thus avoid possible questions who the exercises were targeted against, and why. I think we scattered any possible doubts.”

With respect to the Ukrainian presence at Vostok 2010, Makarov commented: “This was a considerable improvement of bilateral relations and the Ukrainian desire to develop the[ir] armed forces proceeding from our experience. They wanted to see the effect of the [Russian] armed forces’ reform on the operation of servicemen. We met their desire, and the defence minister [Anatoly Serdyukov] invited a Ukrainian delegation to the exercises.” The Russian and Ukrainian air forces are slated to hold a joint exercise this fall.

The Moscow-Beijing Axis, which was predicted by KGB defector Anatoliy Golitsyn in his 1984 book New Lies for Old, will hold another multilateral military drill in Kazakhstan later this year. “Peace Mission 2010” will take place under the auspices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and represents the fifth significant Sino-Russian war game since 2005. According to Golitsyn, the Soviet and Chinese communists intend to form “one clenched fist” to smash the “bourgeois” nations.

The Soviet strategists are also moving cautiously back into Latin America. In February we reported that Russia intends to carry out for the first time ever a combined exercise with Nicaragua. However, no date for this event was offered by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who was then visiting Managua. This would not be the first time Russia has held combined exercises with a Latin American country. In September 2008 the Russian Air Force deployed two Tu-160 strategic bombers to Venezuela for a week-long exercise over the southern Caribbean Sea. Two months later the Russian Navy arrived in South America to hold a joint drill with its Venezuelan counterpart. At the time further Russian-Venezuelan naval and air force exercises were promised, but have yet to materialize.

For their part, the communist regimes in Caracas and Managua were slated to hold a joint exercise in Central America in May and June of this year, but this also has yet to occur. According to articles published in the Latin American media in September and December 2009, a small contingent of Venezuelan troops was to oversee the deployment of combat aircraft and warships in Nicaragua. Since Hugo Chavez has over the last 10 years accumulated considerable firepower from Russia, including fighter jets, tactical missiles, and tanks, we have considered the possibility that the Soviet strategists may position their military assets in Nicaragua under the guise of Nicaraguan-Venezuelan exercises.

In a not unrelated development, the Nicaraguan military has modernized and reactivated the air base at Punta Huete, built with Soviet help in the 1980s but never utilized. The Panchito Aerodrome, which caused some consternation for the Reagan Administration, can accommodate Russia’s Tu-160 and Tu-95 nuclear bombers.

In Russia’s “Backyard”: FM Lavrov Attends International Conference in Kabul, Pledges Arms and Training for Afghan Military and Police

Latin America is sometimes referred to as the USA’s “backyard.” If Russia has a backyard, then Afghanistan certainly falls within this domain. In another story that exposes Moscow’s continued meddling in Afghanistan and, thus, the deceptive nature of the Soviet withdrawal in 1989, state-run Novosti reports that Russia will arm the Afghan military and police forces, as well as train Afghan police in Russia. At an international conference on restoring peace to Afghanistan, held in Kabul, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared:

We are working with our partners on additional measures for supplying the Afghan army and police and expanding cooperation in training personnel for the Afghan armed forces. We will henceforth assist in forming the Afghan armed forces, including by increasing the number of Afghan police officers, trained in Russia, who contribute to the restoration of the country’s economy.

Lavrov joined other conference participants in discussing the timeframe for troop withdrawal by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. Earlier this year Moscow cancelled a US$891 million debt owed to Russia by the US-backed Afghan government of President Hamid Karzai. As a sidenote, the Left.ru website alleges that Russian military intelligence (GRU) is arming the Taliban via Russian and Chechen criminal syndicates that operate across the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.

Back in the USSR: FSB Receives KGB-Style Powers to Crush Anti-Kremlin Dissent

Even though the Communist Party of the Soviet Union abandoned its public monopoly of power in 1991, the Soviet strategists continue to rely on a passive population that obediently votes for potemkin parties like United Russia. Last Friday, the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, approved a bill that will permit the Federal Security Service (FSB), which was hived off from the Soviet Committee for State Security (KGB), to warn (intimidate) people who have broken no laws but are regarded as potential “criminals, terrorists, and radicals.”

President Dmitry Medvedev, who like his Soviet-era predecessor Yuri Andropov, was initially portrayed as a “pro-Western liberal reformer,” was quick to justify his support for the new law. “I would like to turn your attention to the fact that it is our domestic legislation, and not an international act,” Medvedev huffed, adding: “Each country has the right to perfect its own legislation, including that which affects special services. And we will do this.” The legislation was advanced immediately after two female suicide bombers, allegedly from Chechnya, attacked the Moscow subway in March, while its stated objective is to thwart the growth of ideological “radicalism” among young Russians.

“It’s a plain attempt on the part of the FSB to return to the old KGB methods . . . when a person committed no crime but still became an object of KGB attention,” protested Nikita Petrov, a historian who works for the Memorial human rights organization. Another anti-Kremlin activist, Lev Ponomarev of the group For Human Rights, observed: “Liberals in Russia saw the bill as a litmus test for Medvedev and were surprised to hear him take credit for it. This is a pretty important moment.”

No on who recognizes the dialectical nature of the fall of Soviet communism, however, should be surprised by Medvedev’s support for the re-KGB-ization of the Russian secret police. The Russian president is a Soviet Komsomol graduate and a compliant tool in the hands of Russia’s KGB-communist dictator, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

In his 2002 book Blowing up Russia, FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko traces the origin of the 1999 apartment bombings in Moscow, Volgodonsk, and Buynaksk to the FSB. Four years later, Litvinenko was poisoned with polonium-210, allegedly administered by an active agent of his former employers in the Lubyanka. In a statement dictated from his death bed, he accused Putin by name as his murderer. Along the same theme of an “FSB trace” behind Russia’s domestic terrorism, geopolitical analyst Jeff Nyquist unearths a sinister strategic purpose behind suspect dramas like the Nord-Ost theater and Beslan school hostage crises. This strategic purpose includes greater centralization of power in the Kremlin and the depiction of Islam as a common enemy of both Russia and the USA.

    Moscow: 5,000 new fallout shelters

Authorities of Moscow planned to develop program of building 5000 new typical fallout shelters in next 2 years.

Due to lack of works in this field for last 20 years existing shelters are outdated and unprepared.

I thought Obama and Medvedev were on a path to rid the world of nuclear weapons?

Obama has feverishly sought out a Russian deal to slash America's nuclear weapons and gave both Russia and China access to our nuclear sites.

    Then
Obama declares the size of our Nuclear Arsenal and Limits When the U.S. Would Use Nuclear Arms and Stops Counting New Missiles In Russia.

    While in good faith
Obama and Gates Gut our Military.

So America extends it's hand in friendship and lowers it's defenses...while Russia, China and their Allies respond by building up their defenses and arming themselves to the teeth.

Why does Russia suddenly now feel the need to build 5,000 fallout shelters within 18 months to protect their population from a tactical nuclear strike?

America's population is totally unprepared in dealing with nuclear war in every aspect, its people are clueless of any evacuation and decontamination procedures.

Don't take my word for it; here is an interview with a Soviet military doctor Igor Shafhid who worked in the classified operations of the Soviet Strategic Rocket Forces: Igor Shafid Interview.mp3

The United States has yet to secure its borders or build a civil defense system for its population.

Obama Surrenders U.S. Oil in the Gulf of Mexico to Russia one month before the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

None of the NATO European countries want to attack Russia, in fact
Obama opened the door for Russia to join NATO.
    and has pledged full
    support for Russia's WTO bid.

Russia supports and fosters Syria, Iran and also supports nearly all of our Central and South American neighbors including Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua.

The only other large superpower is China.

Both Russia and China share many of the same interests such as BRIC, SCO and have very strong military ties with frequent large joint land, sea and air drills.

No, this Russian activity is to protect their citizens from a future provoked response.

The strategical nuclear attack that hits Russia will be a counter response to their surgical first strike.

Moscow builds 5,000 new bomb shelters against nuclear attack – RT

Posted by Matt in July 15th, 2010

Now why is Moscow concerned about a nuclear attack?

The West is reducing its nuclear arsenal and getting weaker by the day.

The West is defenseless in the face of a nuclear attack in terms of protecting its population. It has few bunkers and many of those have degraded with time.

China is also expending a lots of resources to build underground bomb shelters.

    1. Shanghai Completes Massive Underground Bunker to Protect Citizens from Disasters

    2. China builds vast bunker complex ‘in case of attack’

Isn’t it funny how both Russia and China are both upgrading their nuclear weapons systems and building underground bomb shelters. Do they know something that we don’t?

We know that these underground bomb shelters are just about useless against a surprise nuclear attack in the middle of the night.

However, these shelters give both Russia and China options in terms of initiating a surprise nuclear attack on America. Should they launch a surprise nuclear attack in the middle of the night on America, then their citizens will have about 30 minutes to get to a shelter.

It will also be daylight for them. Meanwhile, American citizens will just die in their beds while sleeping.
Nearly 5,000 new emergency bomb shelters will be built in Moscow by 2012 to save people in case of potential attacks.

Moscow authorities say the measure is urgent as the shelters currently available in the city can house no more that half of its population.

In the last 20 years, the area of air-raid defense has been developed little, and the existing shelters have become outdated. Moreover, they are located mostly in the city center, which makes densely populated Moscow outskirts especially vulnerable in the event of a nuclear attack.

In order to resolve the issue, the city has given architects a task to construct a typical model of an easy-to-build shelter that will be located all over the city 10 to 15 meters underneath apartment blocks, shopping centers, sport complexes and parks, as in case of attack people will need to reach the shelters within a minute.

Moscow saw its first mass building of shelters in the 1930s, after which 7,000 of them were constructed. Some of Russia’s metro stations have been built very deep underground so that they could double as air raid shelters.

However, in the early 1990s, many shelters were privatized by commercial firms that used them as warehouses, parking lots, and even restaurants.

In Moscow they will construct 5 thousand contemporary air-raid shelters

[Moskomarkhitektura] will develop the project of the standard refuge of civil defense, it reports on July 12 RIA of the news. The corresponding commission is already given to architects by Moscow authorities.

It is assumed that in 2011-2012 the diagram of the arrangement of five thousand standard quickly erectable refuges in the territory of Moscow will be developed.

According to the representatives of [stroykompleksa] of Moscow, because of the development of the standard design of refuges, the design and the building of the units of civil defense will occur 10-15 percent more rapidly.

According to the position about the arrangement of the objects of civil defense in Moscow, signed by mayor Yuri [Luzhkov] in January 2010, the refuges must be introduced into the plans of territories and be arranged under the apartment buildings, the shopping centers, the sport complexes, separate with the underground and underground- ground-based garages and other objects.

Responsibility for the presence of refuges and the state, in which they are located, lies on the representatives of executive power and the leaders of the enterprises of any form of property.

It was in 2001 explained that the capital air-raid shelters if necessary can contain only more than half of Muscovites. Partly this was connected with the fact that hundred similar objects as early as the 1990's years engaged particular firms, which placed there storages and offices. Furthermore, the existed refuges were built prior to the beginning 1980- X of years and were not ready for reception of population.

Within the framework regulating the prevailing situation it was proposed to bind particular enterprises to raise air-raid shelters independently.

How Many Bomb Shelters Were There in the USSR?

I've been collecting data on the number of bomb shelters in various Russian cities. This was a topic of major debate decades ago, when some analysts argued that the Soviet Union pursued a "war survival" capability in order to undermine America's nuclear deterrent.

I'm getting some really interesting stuff out of the archives here, which I'm going to use to craft an article about the USSR's shelter system. Here are some figures that have come out in recent years:

    Moscow: 7,000+
St. Petersburg: 4003, 2873 in housing sector
    Tula: ~300, approximately 100,000 spaces
    Tver: ~200

The CIA estimated in 1986 that the USSR had shelter space for 11.2% of its urban population. Between these figures and what I've seen in the archives, I believe that this estimate was approximately correct.

Cuba and Russia are strategic partners with predictable and long-term relations, Deputy Chairman of the Cuban Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas said on Saturday.

"Today we can say that our relations are characterized by the predictable and long-term nature, which does not depend on the international situation," Cabrisas said at the festivities held in the Cuban capital to mark 50 years since the re-establishment of Cuban-Russian diplomatic relations.

Cold War allies, Russia and Cuba have recently moved to restore their ties which declined after the breakup of the U.S.S.R.

"Cuba and Russia are strategic partners, which have common viewpoints on many international issues," Cabrisas said.

Moscow earlier said that Russian-Cuban relations could serve as the starting point to advance Russia's interests in the entire Latin American region.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Cuba in February to discuss the development of bilateral economic ties.

On the eve of the visit, Foreign Ministry's spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said "the current trade, which totals $260 million, does not reflect the bilateral trade potential," and Moscow was hoping to diversify its economic and investment ties with Cuba.

Joint projects in electric power industry, transportation, pharmaceutics and high-tech industry are among the key areas in the future economic cooperation between the two countries, Nesterenko said.

On July 21, the present writer offered the evaluation that an attack on Iran by the United States and Israel was now emphatically back on the agenda after a two-year hiatus.1 More than two weeks after issuing that warning, it is possible to offer a second installment of evidence to buttress the original finding.

The author considers that this evidence is now sufficient to confirm the July 21 analysis. The contours of the coming conflagration are becoming somewhat more distinct, and give us reason to fear not just a Middle East regional war, but possibly even a world war, with increasing danger that nuclear weapons will come into play.

Fidel Castro Convokes Parliament, Issues Dramatic War Warning

The most dramatic and outspoken confirmation of the views expressed here on July 21 comes from Fidel Castro, the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, and the de facto head of state of Cuba. During the spring and summer of 2010, Castro has referred several times to the growing war danger among the United States, Israel, and Iran. On August 8, Castro took the unusual step of convening a special session of the Cuban parliament to discuss the nuclear war danger threatening the peace of the world. Essentially, Castro called for the worldwide mobilization of peace-loving forces to avoid the worst, and included a special personal appeal to Obama.

Castro: Hundreds Of Millions Of Deaths

According to the Cuban News Agency, this war avoidance agenda ‘was the purpose of the Cuban Revolution leader’s address to the Cuban parliament summoned for an extraordinary session in Havana, due to the urgency of mobilizing the world, faced with the danger of a nuclear war that would be triggered by a US-Israeli led aggression on Iran.’ Castro said that Obama, ‘in the instant he gives the order, which is the only one he could give due to the power, speed and countless number of missiles accumulated in an absurd competition between powers, he would be ordering the instant death not only of hundreds of millions of people, including, an immeasurable number of inhabitants of his own country, but also the crews of all US ships in the seas near Iran.”

“Simultaneously, the war would break out in the Near and Far East and across Eurasia,” said Fidel. Otherwise, if the war breaks out, the current social order will abruptly vanish and the price will be much higher, Fidel warned.’2

Whatever one may think of Castro personally and politically, he is unquestionably one of the longest-serving national leaders in today’s world, and brings to the table his experience during the Cuban missile crisis of October 1962. Castro knows, in short, what a nuclear confrontation looks like from the inside. The American public would do well to put aside the arrogance and impudence of the US mass media and pay attention to why this sick old man is putting so much of his flagging energy into an attempt to alert the world to a danger which is being widely ignored.

'Expect nuclear war if US attacks Iran'

    Sat Sep 4, 2010 2:18AM

Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro speaks during a meeting with students at University of Havana on September 3.

Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in his first open-air rally since a near-death illness four years ago, has warned about the threat of a nuclear war if the United States or Israel attack Iran.

The 84-year-old revolutionary leader, wearing his trademark olive green uniform, completed a return to public life on Friday and addressed thousands of students and others at the University of Havana in his first mass rally since an illness forced him to officially step down as the country's president.

He said a nuclear conflict was inevitable if the United States, in alliance with Israel, tried to impose international sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.

On June 9, the UN Security Council approved a resolution, brokered and pushed through by Washington, which imposed new sanctions on Iran. The measure was soon followed by more unilateral sanctions by the US and the European Union, mainly targeting the Islamic Republic's oil and gas sectors.

Castro slammed Washington for creating a "system that threatens the survival of humanity,” adding, “The problem of people today, I mean the more than seven billion human beings, is to prevent such a tragedy from happening."

In his speech, he also sounded the alarm over climate change, which he said "threatens human existence."

"Faced with the skeptics, our duty is to keep up the fight. I am convinced that a good number of people are becoming conscious of the reality," he added.

"I thank you all for your presence and moral support in this fight for peace," Castro said at the end of his 44-minute speech, far shorter than the hours-long speeches he once gave.

"I exhort you to not abandon this battle. As in past fights, we can win," the father of Cuba's 1959 revolution said in conclusion.

After his 2006 illness, Castro disappeared from public view and was seen only occasionally in photographs and videos, and formally handed over the presidency of Cuba to his younger brother, Raul Castro, in 2008.

In recent weeks he has emerged from seclusion, making at least eight public appearances in three weeks, culminating August 8 with an address before the country's National Assembly — his first in four years.

The Air Defense System of Moscow and the Russian Central Economic region will receive new weapons, including prestigious S-400 and S-500 air defense systems, Air Force Commander Colonel General Alexander Zelin said on Saturday.

"We have Air Defense System which protects Moscow and the Central Economic region; this system operates, accomplishes tasks and, of course, undergoes changes," Zelin said.

Central economic region is located in the European part of Russia; it is the country's major industrial region. Besides Moscow, major cities include Nizhny Novgorod, Smolensk, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Tula, Dzerzhinsk, and Rybinsk.

"We will buy a significant number of S-400s before 2020. They will not just go to the five anti-aircraft missile regiments equipped with this system, but also to a much larger number [of regiments.] We are also discussing the [purchase of] S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems," Zelin said.

The S-400 Triumf (SA-21 Growler) is designed to intercept and destroy airborne targets at distances of up to 400 kilometers (250 miles), twice the range of the U.S. MIM-104 Patriot, and two-and-a-half times that of Russia's S-300PMU-2.

The system is also believed to be able to destroy stealth aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, and is effective at ranges of up to 3,500 kilometers (2,200 miles) and speeds of up to 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) per second.

Regular S-400 battalion comprises at least eight launchers with 32 missiles and a mobile command post, according to various sources.

In 2009, Russia deployed S-400 air defense systems in the Far East to counter the potential threat posed by N. Korea's missile tests.
So far, Russia has three S-400 battalions.

Isn’t it funny how both Russia and China are both upgrading their nuclear weapons systems and building underground bomb shelters. Do they know something that we don’t?
No, it's not funny, and the author hits the nail on the head with:

However, these shelters give both Russia and China options in terms of initiating a surprise nuclear attack on America. Should they launch a surprise nuclear attack in the middle of the night on America, then their citizens will have about 30 minutes to get to a shelter.

It will also be daylight for them. Meanwhile, American citizens will just die in their beds while sleeping.
This is what I have been PREACHING for years now.

    Both Russia and China.

And this is another warning that something is up.

'Russia planning new Nuclear bomb shelters'

    Tue Jul 5, 2011 2:13PM
    Share | Email | Print

Russia is reportedly planning to construct nearly 5,000 new nuclear bomb shelters in the capital, Moscow, by the end of 2012 to protect the residents against a possible nuclear strike.

Russian authorities believe more shelters are needed because the current nuclear bomb shelters can hold about half of Moscow's population, Russia Today TV channel reported.

Architects have been given a task to construct a typical model of an easy-to-build shelter that will be located all over the city, 10 to 15 meters underneath the apartment blocks, shopping centers, sport complexes and parks, so that people would reach them within a minute in case of an attack.

Moscow saw its first mass building of nuclear bomb shelters in the 1930s, since when 7,000 of them have been constructed.

Some of Russia's metro stations have also been built very deep underground so that they could be used as air raid shelters.

However, in the early 1990s, many shelters were privatized by commercial firms that used them as warehouses, parking lots, and even restaurants.

Meanwhile, China announced similar plans of building nuclear bomb shelters a few years ago.

Shanghai's Civil Defense Office has announced the completion of a massive underground shelter, which can accommodate up to 200,000 people at a time.

Why Is Russia Building 5000 More Nuclear Bomb Shelters In Moscow By The End Of 2012?

Posted on Pakalert on June 29, 2011 // 5 Comments

Russia certainly seems to be in a hurry to prepare for something. RT is reporting that 5,000 new nuclear bomb shelters will be constructed in the city of Moscow by the end of 2012.

Russian authorities believe that these new shelters are urgently needed because the current nuclear bomb shelters will only hold approximately half the population and are quite outdated. In addition, there are apparently very few nuclear bomb shelters for those living outside the city center at this point. Officials want virtually the entire population of Moscow to be able to reach a bomb shelter within a matter of minutes. But in this era when the “Cold War” is supposed to be over, why are 5000 nuclear bomb shelters such an urgent necessity?

The following is an RT video news report about these new shelters….

But it isn’t just Russia that has been busy building bomb shelters.

A few years ago, Shanghai’s Civil Defense Office announced the completion of an absolutely massive underground shelter. It was reported that the shelter covers an area of over 90,000 square meters and could accommodate up to 200,000 people at a time.

But that giant shelter is not even as big as the “Underground Great Wall” that was built during that 1960s and 1970s. It is estimated that the “Underground Great Wall” contains 19 miles of tunnels and shelters and could hold up to 300,000 people. It reportedly has a munitions warehouse, a hospital, a theater and even a library.

So what about the U.S. government? Are they building any bomb shelters for us?

    No.

Basically, Americans are sitting ducks. Whether it is a rogue nation launching a nuke or a full-out nuclear war, Americans literally have nowhere to go. In the event of a nuclear attack, most of us would be lucky to have enough time to duck and cover and say our prayers.

The sad truth is that the U.S. government considers the threat of nuclear war to be a thing of the past.

For decades, an overwhelming nuclear arsenal has been our primary protection against nuclear attack, but thanks to the last several presidents our strategic nuclear arsenal has been mostly dismantled.

Today, the United States has only 5,113 nuclear warheads in its stockpile, which represents an 84 percent decline since a peak of approximately 31,255 in 1967.

But that isn’t far enough for Barack Obama. Currently, Obama is working on a treaty under which the United States and Russia would only be allowed a maximum of 1,550 deployed warheads.

So with nuclear weapons rapidly spreading throughout the world, and with the U.S. only having a small fraction of the nukes that it used to have, doesn’t that make a nuclear strike against the United States more likely?

Of course, but because the mainstream media tells Americans that we don’t have to worry about nuclear war anymore most of them don’t even think about it.

But Russia is obviously taking a different approach. Building 5000 bomb shelters in one city alone is a massive undertaking. Obviously they feel like building all of these shelters is important for one reason or another.

So are they just being paranoid or are they several moves ahead of us?

Nothing new here. This thread is a year old and the same articles (virtually!) are posted as the first, and last.

5000 more bomb shelters were announced on 21st July 2010. It's 7 July 2011. And 5000 more are being built.

Is this a NEW set of 5k or the same old set?

Ok, I think I have this figured out:

Communist Bloc Military Updates: Kremlin to build 5,000 new bomb shelters by 2012

The Kremlin-run media reports that Moscow regional authorities have given the green light to architects to design and build 5,000 bomb shelters for the express purpose of protecting Muscovites from strategic nuclear attack. Moscow’s outdated shelters were built during the Soviet era and can house no more than one half of the city’s current population.

    And today:

    Tue Jul 5, 2011 2:13PM

Russia is reportedly planning to construct nearly 5,000 new nuclear bomb shelters in the capital, Moscow, by the end of 2012 to protect the residents against a possible nuclear strike.

So, one year later we're getting what appear to be belated reports on this, or simply some people are FINALLY JUST HEARING about it for the first time.

This is why we collect this information and categorize it as clearly as we can.

Allow me to place a pointer here.

    1. They several moves ahead of us...
    2. They do NOT like MDA
    3. MDA is going by the wayside thanks to Obama.
    4. Obama didn't like Reagan and doesn't like what he did in the past.

The Russians and the Chinese are building their forces as well as defenses.

America is under three fronts, Iraq, Afghanistan and now Libya (not to mention Somalia as of a couple days ago).

We are attempting to "draw down" our forces, inundate the US military with the odd "gay person" (attempting to demoralize the forces most likely), sending the same guys over and over to war (killing off the older guys with experience...).

    MDA has been cut drastically.

Space programs have been cut, drastically.

Military personnel are being cut slowly, by attrition. Not filling positions.

Essentially, America is being made impotent slowly.

    For what reason?

Well, we still have missiles, attack capabilities, just not as much MD as we should.

That makes it an almost CERTAINTY we will be hit eventually by those two countries.
