Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Promise "New World Order"

    By Kyle Munzenrieder, Thu., Oct. 21 2010 @ 12:23PM

Hugo Chavez runs Venezuela as a leftist secular state. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad runs Iran as a far-right country under Islamic law. These two should not and do not agree on most things. So why are they teaming up to promise a "new world order?" Because they both hate America so much.

Granted the two leaders different positions on the political compass doesn't obscure their similarities. They're both ego-driven leaders of oil-producing countries who favor bombastic rhetoric with a rabid hatred for American power and Western capitalism.

Chavez is currently on a world tour of sorts, and will also visit Russia and Syria. While stopping in Iran he signed 11 agreements with Ahmadinejad meant to promote "cooperation in areas including oil, natural gas, textiles, trade and public housing," according to the AP. The agreements are just the latest actions in increasingly strengthened ties between the two countries.

Thought the two leaders increased their anti-American rhetoric this go around.

"Iran and Venezuela are united to establish a new world order based on humanity and justice," Ahmadinejad said during their joint appearance on Tuesday. Tags:

Hugo Chavez, left, and Ahmadinejad called their relationship a "strategic alliance" [AFP]
Venezuela and Iran have denounced US imperialism and called for a "new world order", saying they are united in trying to eliminate western dominance in global affairs.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, and visiting Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chavez, were quoted by Iranian media as calling their relationship a "strategic alliance".
"We are united and determined to end the current unjust which dominates the world and replace it with a new world order based on justice," said Ahmadinejad on Wednesday.
"Iran and Venezuela are united to establish a new world order based on humanity and justice.
"We believe that the only result of bullying movements of imperialism all around the world, and especially in Latin America, will be the fast decline of imperial power," Ahmadinejad said at a joint news conference, referring to the United States.
    'US military threats'
For his part, Chavez condemned what he called "military attack threats against Iran by some countries".
"We know that they can never thwart the Islamic Revolution," he said.
Chavez said this is a time of "great threats" that make it necessary to swiftly "consolidate strategic alliances in political, economic, technological, energy and social areas", according to the state-run Venezuelan News Agency.
The Venezuelan leader said his government demands respect for Iran's sovereignty and that "those who think they are most powerful and want to impose their will on the world respect Iran".
Earlier the two leaders witnessed the signing of a series of deals focusing on cooperation in areas including oil, natural gas, textiles, trade and public housing.
The agreements signed include pacts for a joint oil shipping company and joint construction of petrochemical plants, as well as Venezuelan participation in the exploitation of Iran's South Pars gas field.
The two sides also agreed to build a refinery in Syria, Iran's main ally in the region.
Iran and Venezuela have over the past five years signed a series of agreements on oil and gas cooperation as the Iranian industry has been hit by pullouts by Western firms in the face of UN and US sanctions.
Chavez's visit is part of an international tour aimed at strengthening Venezuela's economic ties with eastern Europe and the Middle East.
He left Iran late on Wednesday and is due next to Libya and Portugal.
Iran has become the closest Middle East ally to Chavez's government as the left-leaning leader has sought to build international alliances to counter what he sees as US economic and political dominance.

The leaders of Iran and Venezuela hailed what they called their strong strategic relationship Wednesday, saying they are united in efforts to establish a "new world order" that will eliminate Western dominance over global affairs.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his visiting Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chavez, both denounced what they called U.S. "imperialism" and said their opponents will not be able to impede cooperation between Iran and Venezuela.

At the end of his two-day visit to Tehran, Mr. Chavez condemned military threats against Iran over its nuclear program. The United States and Israel have said they would not rule out any option to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iran denies charges it is pursuing nuclear technology to produce weapons.

The two leaders signed 11 agreements promoting cooperation in areas including oil, natural gas, textiles and trade.

The visit was Mr. Chavez's ninth to Iran and the latest stop on a 10-day international tour.

Mr. Chavez has already visited Russia as part of his trip. Moscow on Friday agreed to help Venezuela build its first nuclear power plant. Russia has been helping Iran complete its first nuclear power station.

Venezuela's Chavez visits Syria on international tour aimed at countering US 'imperialism'
By Bassem Mroue (CP) – 2 hours ago
DAMASCUS, Syria — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez discussed a proposed oil project with his Syrian counterpart Thursday on the Mideast leg of an international tour partly intended to counter what he calls U.S. "imperialism."
Chavez flew in Wednesday from Tehran, where he and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said they are united in efforts to establish a "new world order" that will eliminate Western dominance over global affairs.
The trip underscores Washington's battle for influence in Syria, which is under U.S. sanctions because the State Department considers it a sponsor of terrorism. The U.S. also accuses Syria of secret nuclear activities, which Damascus denies.
President Barack Obama has tried — unsuccessfully, so far — to pry Damascus away from its alliance with Iran and the militant groups Hezbollah and Hamas. Obama has made repeated overtures to Damascus this year, including nominating the first U.S. ambassador to Syria since 2005 and sending top diplomats to meet with President Bashar Assad.
Despite U.S. efforts, Syria has only strengthened ties with outspoken critics of Washington, such as Venezuela.
Still, Syria stands to gain from improved ties with Washington, which could boost the country's struggling economy and end the sanctions. Since he rose to office in 2000, Assad has begun to dismantle his late father's socialist legacy. He loosened the reins on banking, sought to attract foreign investment and encouraged tourism and private education.
He also is hoping for U.S. mediation in direct peace talks with Israel — a recognition that he needs Washington's help to reach his goal of winning the return of the Golan Heights, seized by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war.
A Venezuelan government statement Thursday said Chavez has also used his trip to discuss oil and gas projects with Mideast governments.
Venezuelan Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez, who was travelling with Chavez, said his government has been working with Syria on plans to build an oil refinery there capable of processing 140,000 barrels of crude a day, the statement said.
In 2007, Syria signed a contract with Iran, Venezuela and Malaysia for the construction of the oil refinery in central Syria.
The statement also said Iran's government agreed Wednesday to Venezuelan participation in developing major gas deposits in that country.
Before making stops in the Middle East, Chavez travelled to Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. He is due to travel next to Libya and Portugal.

Chavez and Ahmadinejad say united to change world order

    Thu Oct 21, 2010 7:29am GMT

    By Robin Pomeroy
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told his Venezuelan counterpart on Wednesday they would defeat their common foes, the latest defiant salvo against Western countries that he says are failing in their attempts to isolate Iran.
At the end of a two-day visit, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez condemned military threats against Iran which the United States and Israel have said they could strike to prevent it getting a nuclear bomb.

The visit by Iran's long time ally comes a week after Ahmadinejad received a warm reception in Lebanon -- home to the militant Shi'ite group Hezbollah. Both diplomatic events are partly aimed to show Washington that Iran still has friends around the world who are willing to confront U.S. interests.

"I should use the opportunity to condemn those military threats that are being made against Iran," Chavez told a news conference in which the two leaders called each other "brother."

"We know that they will never be able to restrict the Islamic revolution in whatever way ... We will always stand together, we will not only resist we will also stand victorious beside one another."

The countries have more than their dislike of the United States in common; they are also OPEC members whose valuable oil exports allow them a certain diplomatic muscle despite being viewed with suspicion in the West.

Chavez said they signed several new agreements aimed at boosting industrial cooperation.

In words which showed his ambition to represent developing countries that feel oppressed by the West, Ahmadinejad said Iran and Venezuela was part of a revolutionary front from Latin America "stretching all the way to East Asia."

"If one day, my brother Mr Chavez and I and a few other people were once alone in the world, today we have a long line of revolutionary officials and people standing alongside each other," he said.

"The enemies of our nations will go one day. This is the promise of God and the promise of God will definitely be fulfilled," said Ahmadinejad in a comment likely to be seen by Israel as a threat from someone who has often said the Jewish state will one day cease to exist.

Washington led a push for tougher sanctions against Iran to pressure it the over nuclear activities it fears are aimed at making a bomb. Iran says it merely seeks peaceful nuclear technology and accuses its foes of trying to stop it progress.

Following in Iran's footsteps, before coming to Tehran, Chavez secured a deal with Russia to help build Venezuela's first nuclear power plant, a move which has rattled some people in Washington.

Iran hopes its own Russian-built nuclear power station will start adding power to the grid early next year.

Many countries view Iran's nuclear activities with suspicion, particularly as it is enriching uranium to much higher purity than is needed for power generation.

Iran says it needs the more potent fuel for a medical reactor in Tehran and confirmed earlier on Wednesday that it was pushing ahead with enrichment.

Iran and Venezuela urged for new global order whereby changes could be brought about to the world, the official IRNA news agency reported Thursday.

During a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez on Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that both Iran and Venezuela are "determined for overthrowing the unjust ruling system of the world and for the establishment of a new world order based on the rules of justice", the report said.

"The two countries' relations have always been important and brotherly, but now after our last rounds of talks in Tehran and the reached agreements they have been improved to a strategic level," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.

Ahmadinejad said that Tehran and Caracas share proximity of stands on international issues.

Chavez, for his part, said that eleven years ago with the victory of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, Iran and Venezuela began a campaign which was aimed at establishing a new world order, according to IRNA.

The agreements reached are of great importance for the two nations, Chavez said, "through such cooperation we are expanding the dimensions of our unified will towards the establishment of a new world order based on justice and equality of all nations."

On Wednesday, Iran and Venezuela signed eleven memorandums of understanding (MoU) in diverse areas of oil, natural gas, textiles, trade and public housing projects.

Chavez reiterated his country's support for Tehran in face of West's imposed sanction pressures and military threats against Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

Iran and Venezuela said on Tuesday that both countries are enjoying high level of cooperation and vowed to boost the bilateral ties in all areas.

Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines Ali Akbar Mehrabian said Tuesday that the current trade volume between Iran and Venezuela is about 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, however both sides are determined to promote it to even higher levels.

Grounds for expansion of economic cooperation in oil, gas, petrochemical, agriculture, transportation, banking and housing are well-prepared between the two countries, the official IRNA news agency quoted Mehrabian as saying.
Mehrabian made the remarks on the sidelines of Iran-Venezuela Joint Economic Commission kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday.
He further added that Iran and Venezuela so far have signed dozens of memorandum of understanding (MOU) on economic and political cooperation, according to the report.
Iran has launched some 80 Iranian-led industrial and development projects in Venezuela, indicating the booming economic cooperation between the two countries, the minister said.

Meanwhile, the visiting Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez said here Tuesday that Caracas is seriously seeking the expansion of ties with Tehran, the local satellite Press TV reported.

"Both countries enjoy numerous potentials and opportunities for further enhancement of relations in all areas," said Chavez who arrived in Tehran late Monday night for talks on economic and energy cooperation with Iran.

Tehran-Caracas relations are "brotherly" and " strong," Chavez said in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The ample untapped potentials in bilateral cooperation should be explored and implemented, Venezuelan president said.

His country will stand by Iran under any circumstances and Venezuela regards expansion of cooperation with Iran as the top priority, according to the report.
Thanking Chavez for his stance on denouncing anti-Iran sanctions by the Western countries, Ahmadinejad said, for his part, that Iran is in a good condition and the its influence is growing in the region.

Criticizing the Western policies, Ahmadinejad said that the global imperialism and the hegemonic powers have mobilized their facilities against independent nations, according to IRNA.

The independent nations by developing solidarity and strength can change the current global situation to their own advantages, he was quoted as saying.

Tehran, Iran (AHN) - Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi has poured cold water on media speculation about Tehran’s plans to purchase Venezuela’s S-300 missile system.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said that the Islamic Republic had no intentions at least for the time being.
His comments came as Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is on an official visit to this Middle Eastern nation.
In 2007, Iran reportedly signed an accord with Russia to buy S-300 weaponry systems–a deal Moscow scrapped in the wake of United Nations’ June sanctions. The S-300, an advanced mobile missile system, is capable of shooting down aircraft and cruise missiles, from as far as 93 miles away.
Earlier, the two leaders agreed to create a joint maritime society in a bid to boost oil transport and exportation under a bilateral cooperation deal between the two nations.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad thanked his Venezuelan counterpart for supporting Iran against international sanctions on its oil and trade.
On Wednesday, Chavez called on the Iranian Minister of Housing and Urban Development to come up with a solution to the housing problem in Iran.
Chavez’ three-day official visit to Iran ends Thursday.

Iran, Venezuela Vow To End US 'Hegemony'

    10/21/2010 10:17 AM ET

(RTTNews) - Iran and Venezuela are to take steps to further enhance their strategic alliance to counter U.S. "imperialism," reports said on Thursday quoting leaders of both the countries.

The announcement on cementing of bilateral ties came during Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's two-day visit to Iran.

Chavez held wide-ranging talks with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmedinejad while in Tehran. Later the two leaders who addressed each other as brothers said nothing could come in the way of strengthening relations between the two countries.

Ahmedinejad who lashed out at Washington vowed that Tehran and Caracas would build a "new world order" free of U.S. domination.
Chavez on his part blasted the U.N. sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic and military threats made against Tehran over its nuclear program.

The two leaders were unanimous in their view that the age of Western domination was indeed drawing to a close. "Imperialism has reached a decisive phase of decline and is headed, like an elephant, to its graveyard," Chavez said.

Ahmedinejad claimed that the end of Western hegemony was divinely ordained. "The enemies of our nations will go one day. This is the promise of God and the promise of God will definitely be fulfilled," the Iranian leader said.

The two countries also signed a slew of bilateral agreements in several areas including oil and gas, trade and construction.

Of these a significant pact involved a joint shipping venture with Iran to enable Venezuela's state-run oil company, PDVSA, to deliver Venezuelan oil to European and Asian markets.

Chavez later left for Damascus on the next leg of his ongoing international tour.

Obama asks for Venezuela to act responsibly with nuclear industry

    Birmingham Star
    Wednesday 20th October, 2010

US president Barack Obama has reacted to news that Russia is to build a nuclear power plant in Venezuela.

Mr Obama, speaking to reporters, said he had no problem with Venezuela developing a peaceful nuclear energy program, as long as it acted responsibly toward its neighbours.

The president recently said he would like to improve US-Venezuela relations, where there has recently been friction.

Last week, Russian media reported the country will build two 1,200 megawatt nuclear reactors at a plant in Venezuela.

Shortly after, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he would meet Iranian leaders for talks expected to focus on energy.

Mr Chavez has made it clear to Iran that its nuclear power should be for peaceful purposes.

Chavez to Assad: I hope to visit 'liberated Golan'

During Damascus meeting, Venezuelan president tells Syrian counterpart he backs demand for Israeli withdrawal from disputed region. Assad: Israel continuing calculated killing of Palestinians Ynet

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad that Caracas supports Damascus' demand that Israel return the Golan Heights, a Syrian news agency reported Thursday.

During the meeting in Damascus, Chavez said, "I hope the day will come when I will visit the Golan after it is liberated."

Assad accused Israel of "trying to convince the world that it wants peace while the Arab side is opposed to the peace process," adding that the Jewish state is "continuing the calculated killing of Palestinians in Gaza and all the Palestinian territories.

"The process of Judaizing Jerusalem is a racist process that is linked to the racist and fascist laws Israel recently passed," the Syrian leader said in reference to the loyalty oath.

Chavez arrived in Syria on Wednesday from Tehran, where he and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said they are united in efforts to establish a "new world order" that will eliminate Western dominance over global affairs.

During the meeting in Damascus Chavez said that he and Assad are "on the attack to speed up the fall of the imperialist powers so that we have a new, balanced world." The Syrian president said his country backs Caracas' call to end "western intervention" in the Middle East's affairs.

According to the Syrian news agency, Chavez said, "With the help of millions of leaders, such as the brave leader Assad, we will reach a new world in the next few years and forget about the old world, which is based on oppression."
