Default N. Korea Army - Opinions thread

Not a news link thread, but an opinions thread.

What do you think of the North Korean Military?

Personally, I think if push comes to shove and war opens back up, we're going to find we've been facing a strawman. They will strike first and get in a pretty brutal first punch just because the have a good 20,000 artillery pieces on the DMZ. But an under fed, under supplied rank and file will not be able to stand up to the stresses of prolonged combat once the counter attacks and surgical strikes begin.

North Korea won't last 2-3 weeks. UNLESS... China makes the very bold and decisive move of declairing war on the US and providing military support. (bye-bye Wal-Mart) I don't see that happening. Or at least over just North Korea. China is heavily invested in trade and commerce with the US and the West. War with their largest trading block would be economically devistating. To lose that over N. Korea? Not worth it. I'm thinking we'll get a lot of sound and fury out of China, but they won't militarily insert themselves.

    Manpower available for military service:

    males age 16-49: 6,132,987
    females age 16-49: 6,119,405 (2010 est.)

    Manpower fit for military service:

    males age 16-49: 4,127,999
    females age 16-49: 4,522,707 (2010 est.)

    Military branches:

North Korean People's Army: Ground Forces, Navy, Air Force; civil security forces (2005)

Those are the FACTS right there.

There are eight and a half million military aged, fit-for-duty personnel.

Pure man power alone.... grunts given guns, assuming they have enough bullets and rifles.

    South Korea? Good question:

    Manpower fit for military service:

    males age 16-49: 10,929,625
    females age 16-49: 10,264,608 (2010 est.)

30 million men and women, fit for duty.

North Korea has nukes, South doesn't but they are backed by the US who does have nukes. North Korea is backed by Russia and China, who both have nukes.

This "war" will get intense, deadly and very, very nuclear in a short time.

North Korea can't stand against the South, plain and simply, without resorting to some drastic measures.

Given the number of people ALONE, China would HAVE to back them in a "fair fight".

This will be anything but fair.
    Libertatem Prius!
