For the first time since the end of the 2008 election, President Obama will sit down in a private one-on-one meeting with his former GOP rival, John McCain.
The meeting, announced by the White House last night, will take place later this afternoon in the Oval Office. Administration officials didn't disclose what the two will talk about, though it could be a further sign that tensions are thawing between the two.
After a tumultuous two years, the Arizona senator recently wrote an op-ed praising the president's speech in the aftermath of last month's tragic shooting in Tucson. And just last week, McCain had nice things to say about the Obama's State of the Union, hinting there are issues he's willing to work with the president on.
