I am getting the distinct impression this was to keep all eyes off Obama's piss poor policies at this point. So the lying, regardless of whether they were running guns or just trying to keep people from paying attention has caused much more attention than they ever wanted.

The old Shakespearean quote from Hamlet, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"applies in particular to both Nanny Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. Everything from "Why, at this point does it matter?" to "Why are we still talking about this" are nothing more than attempts to redirect folks' attention to anything OTHER than Benghazi.

Hell, at this point, I think the whole Cliven Bundy Ranch War thing was an attempt to wag the dog and bring attention away from the Ukraine, Benghazi and Russia.

We're in deep shit in this country, the Democraps know it, the Liberals and Marxists KNOW it, and the Russians and Chinese KNOW it. All of us KNOW it.

Lying simply exacerbates the problem and makes the Administration look like a bunch of weak-kneed pansy-asses.

GOP Bogus Conspiracy Theory Jay Carney...

GOP Bogus Conspiracy Theory Jay Carney Doubles Down Claims Email Was Not About Benghazi

On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney spun wildly to avoid the evidence that the White House had manipulated the talking points of then-UN Ambassador Susan Rice regarding the Benghazi attacks of September 11, 2012.

That evidence showed that the White House told Rice that her goal on the Sunday shows would be “to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, not a broader failure of policy.” In other words, tell the public to blame YouTube, not our feckless and cowardly foreign policy, for the dead Americans prior to the 2012 election.

Carney attempted to state that the email itself wasn’t about Benghazi – it was about Middle East protests in general. That claim doesn’t hold water, given that the email was released in response to a request from Judicial Watch for documents related to Benghazi and the fact that Rice explicitly connected the YouTube videos to Benghazi.

On Thursday, nonetheless, Carney claimed that the entire issue had been politicized and ripped the investigation into Benghazi altogether. That’s nothing new for Carney, who has stated in the past that Benghazi was politicized by Mitt Romney and suggested in 2013, “This is a subject that has from its beginning been subject to attempts to politicize it by Republicans, when in fact what happened in Benghazi was a tragedy.” He added that all scandals of the Obama administration had been politicized thanks to the “rapid politicization of everything.” President Obama, of course, similarly commented that all of his scandals, from the IRS targeting conservatives to the Department of Justice targeting the Associated Press to Fast and Furious, were “phony” concoctions by an anti-Obama right wing.

Carney wasn’t the only White House official spinning the Benghazi smoking gun email this week. “Unlike those who insist on politicizing the events in Benghazi, our focus remains on ensuring that a tragedy like this isn’t repeated in Libya or anywhere else in the world,” said Bernadette Meehan of the National Security Council.

This nonsensical excuse – a scandal doesn’t matter because others are politicizing the scandal – has become a mainstay of political attempts to misdirect from political headaches. Here are the top 5 instances of that excuse from the deeply guilty:

John Kerry’s Israel “apartheid” comments. This week, Secretary of State John Kerry was caught on tape at the Trilateral Commission stating that Israel would become an “apartheid state” if it did not make concessions to the Palestinians – who had just signed a deal between the supposedly non-terrorist Palestinian Authority and the overt terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. After the tape broke, Kerry blamed partisan politics: “I will not allow my commitment to Israel to be questioned by anyone, particularly for partisan, political purposes.” How exactly The Daily Beast, which reported the quotes, is “partisan” or “political” in its opposition to John Kerry remained unexplained, given The Daily Beast’s well-known leftist slant.

Chris Christie’s Bridgegate. As the Christie administration in New Jersey was caught up in revelations that the governor’s office had worked with the Port Authority to punish a political opponent with lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, Christie’s allies showed up to blame partisan politics for the whole ordeal. New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani called the episode a “partisan witch hunt.” Congressional candidate Steve Lonegan said that the situation was “a bunch of political hacks trying to tear down the image of a governor who’s been successful.”

Weinergate. After Anthony Weiner revealed himself to the world via Twitter, The New York Times reported, “a more prying press corps, stricter public standards and greater partisanship have combined to make Washington oddly more puritanical than it once was.”

Hillary’s “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.” Just a few days after Matt Drudge’s DrudgeReport.com broke the news that President Clinton had lied under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, Hillary appeared on The Today Show and explained, “I do believe that this is a battle. I mean, look at the very people who are involved in this – they have popped up in other settings. This is – the great story here for anybody willing to find it and write about it and explain it is this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president.” She complained of the “intense political agenda at work here.” That did not change the fact that her husband committed perjury.

Watergate. When rumors of a break-in by political operatives at the Watergate Hotel first broke, Nixon’s political allies in Congress called it a partisan witch hunt. Rep. Edward Gurney (R-FL) said that Watergate was “one of those political wing-dings that happen every political year.” Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) charged that it was a “partisan” exercise to go after Nixon. Nixon himself said that the quest to go after him was “all a Kennedy deal.” That didn’t change Nixon’s complicity in bugging. And it didn’t save him.

When allegations aren’t true, simply denying them is the best tactic. Blaming partisanship for attention to scandal doesn’t justify the original scandal.

I'm sorry. I've got about as much confidence in the House effectively bringing this issue to justice as I have in Obama being an excellent president. Every single one of these stinking politicians is corrupt whether or not they are in bed together.

A select panel of citizen participants might get to the bottom of the issue if they had some authority. However, in a Constitutional Republic, that ain't how it works.

Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte Send Letter to President Obama Asking About Benghazi

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), Kelly Ayotte (R-New Hampshire) and John McCain (R-Arizona) today wrote to President Obama asking him to confirm a statement made by former Communications Director for the National Security Council Tommy Vietor that President Obama was absent from the White House Situation Room during the Benghazi attacks. Text of the Graham-Ayotte-McCain letter is below:
Dear Mr. President: Last night, the former Communications Director for the National Security Council, Tommy Vietor, stated that on the afternoon and night of September 11, 2012 — while the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya was under attack — that you never visited the White House Situation Room to monitor events. Over a year and a half has passed since the terrorist attacks, and the American people still do not have an accounting of your activities during the attack. Mr. President, can you now confirm that Mr. Vietor’s account of your absence in the White House Situation Room is accurate?
Thank you again for your attention to this matter. -
    **********************
The letter was apparently prompted by the appearance of former Communications Director for the National Security Council, Tommy Vietor, on the Fox News Channel, Thursday, May 2, 2014.

On Saturday, a report at Shoebat.com said that a leader of a Muslim brotherhood front group is on the distribution list of the so-called “smoking gun” email that indicates former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice was coached to blame the Benghazi terror attack was the result of an obscure online video.
Among those listed on the distribution list is Mehdi K. Alhassani, the leader of the Muslim Student Association, who, according to the Shoebat Foundation, attended the sister mosque of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center mosque attended by the Boston Marathon bombers. Alhassani, Shoebat adds, also serves as a Special Assistant to the Office of the Chief of Staff, National Security Council Staff, and Executive Office of the President.
According to Shoebat, Alhassani met with with Samir Mayekar, a George Soros ‘fellow,’ for an unscheduled visit a few hours before the fateful Sept. 11, 2012 attack that ended with the deaths of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. The report said it is unknown why the two met.
As a Muslim Brotherhood operative, Shoebat added, it is natural that Alhassani would want the attack blamed on the YouTube video. The Foundation reported two days after the attack that “these forces had been hard at work on that very agenda.”
Both the White House and the Muslim Brotherhood had a stake in blaming the attack on a video, Shoebat said. As the email says, the intent was to take attention away from what the email called a “broader failure of policy.”

KERRY REFUSES CONGRESSIONAL SUBPOENA ABOUT BENGHAZI

CBS: “The State Department said Monday that Secretary of State John Kerry would not appear before the House Oversight Committee on May 21 to talk about Benghazi — as demanded in a subpoena from the panel’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif. Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said Kerry planned to travel to Mexico at that time and officials would discuss alternative options with the committee.”

Department spokesperson said things can be worked out but they were very surprised the GOP did not contact them before issuing their subpoena. “ I’ve noted here, there have been a number of Republicans who themselves, under the previous administration, said a secretary of state should not be subpoenaed.”

America, the people, is looking for the facts behind the deaths of four citizens who gave their lives to protect our country. Trey Gowdy was just appointed to head the Select Committee and the liberals threaten to boycott. We were not the only one’s to endorse Gowdy as the best possible choice.

John Kerry works for us, keep that in mind as he continues to tell the majority of the people what he wants to do.

Gowdy rebuffs Pelosi: The select committee WON’T be evenly divided because ‘elections have consequences’

Nancy Pelosi suggested to Fox News that the Select Committee should be evenly divided among Republicans and Democrats. But Trey Gowdy says that just isn’t gonna happen and points to her own hypocrisy in the matter:

MARTHA: All right. So talk to me a little it about the makeup of this committee because Nancy Pelosi just said moments ago, to our Chad Pergram, he reported that she wants this to be an evenly divided select committee, an even number of Democrats and Republicans.
And you know that up to that statement, there have been a lot of calls for Democrats to completely boycott this committee. And there’s going to be be very little credibility if it is full of Republicans, many would say.
GOWDY: Well, I certainly hope the Democrats participate. I, Martha, continue to think that some things transcend politics like the murder of four of our fellow citizens and whether or not you trust government. That is not a red or blue issue. That is an American issue. As for whether or not they boycott, I hope they don’t.
I can tell you this. It is not going to be evenly constituted and when she was Speaker Pelosi, she certainly showed no interests in having an equal number of Republicans and Democrats.
We’re in the majority. That may or may not be the case after November but we’re in the majority right now and we’re in the majority for a reason. And I just find it interesting that people’s ability to do math changes when they go from being the Speaker to the Minority Leader.
MARTHA: So what, tell me what composition you see on this select committee? What would you like it to be?
GOWDY: Well, the Speaker is going to decide that. Something in the 10-7 range or like what we have with other committees now. Every committee of Congress is constituted with more Republicans than Democrats because there are more Republicans than Democrats. And i hasten to add, every committee in the Senate is constituted with more Democrats than Republicans. I mean there are consequences to elections.

Would someone please tell me please how Kerry can refuse a congressional subpoena? If one of us refused a subpoena of any sort, we'd find ourselves incarcerated before the end of the next day. If the country's laws do not apply to our "leaders", how can they effectively represent the populace.

It's not necessary to answer that question. It's abundantly clear that our "leaders" are not representing the populace in any way, shape or form.

Truth Wins: The Benghazi Cover Up is Finally Collapsing

The Obama administration’s massive web of lies is finally starting to collapse under its own weight as we’re seeing more and more evidence that directly contradicts their version of the facts surrounding the events in Benghazi on September 11, 2012 and the following days.
In a hard-hitting op-ed for Breitbart, Pamela Geller, President of the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), details how documents recently released are exposing the Obama administration’s massive coverup of what they knew and when regarding the Benghazi attacks.
We’ve reported that an email released to Judicial Watch via a FOIA lawsuit is the “smoking gun” of the entire coverup, showing how the White House directed Susan Rice to claim that the attack was over a video and not an act of terrorism.
But Geller notes that this is just the beginning, as the documents reveal numerous other lies that the Obama administration perpetuated to create a narrative that would be favorable to the President during his campaign for reelection.
In a memo from former Deputy Spokesman at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations Payton Knopf to Susan Rice and others, Knopf provides “Guidance on Events in Libya 9/12/12. (Today’s initial guidance from NSS and State).” In it, he gives a timeline (“the tick tock”) of events on that day and quotes the State Department’s Victoria Nuland as saying that “it was clearly a complex attack.”
In the same memo, Knopf discusses Obama’s “tick tock” during Benghazi. The president was made aware of the attack on the afternoon of September 11, 2012 “as he started his weekly meeting with the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.” [...]
But what’s salient here is that according to Benghazi transcripts of defense testimony, just minutes after the American consulate in Benghazi was attacked, senior defense officials, both civilian and military, were told that it was a “terrorist attack.” So why did the Obama White House promote a false narrative, and why didn’t defense officials speak out about this false claim?
Obviously, if the testimony given by Deputy CIA Director Michael Morrell and others is true, the intelligence community knew very soon that Benghazi was a terrorist attack, and (you’d think) Obama would’ve been informed of that at his briefing with defense personnel.
These documents also indicate that administration officials knew on the night of September 11 that Ambassador Stevens had been killed, yet Obama apparently wasn’t informed of this fact until the next morning.
After being notified that it was a terrorist attack on the afternoon of September 11, 2012, Obama was “updated several times throughout the evening and the next morning.” When asked when he had heard of Ambassador Steven’s murder, Nuland said, “The president was notified last night that Ambassador Stevens was unaccounted for and then notified again this morning of about his tragic death.”
At 11:53 PM on September 11, senior adviser Eric Pelofsky told Rice that a Libyan government official had called him to “extend his condolences” over Ambassador Stevens’ death. Pelofsky said that they had not recovered the Ambassador’s body, but referred to “a photo on twitter of someone carrying a body of someone who resembles Chris over their shoulder.” Pelofsky had previously written that it looked as if the death of Stevens was a kidnapping gone bad. “Yes – I’m very worried. In particular, that he is either dead or this was a concerted effort to kidnap him,” wrote Pelofsky at 9:06 PM Eastern the night of the attack. This, too, contradicts the State Department version of events.
If an American ambassador had been killed during an attack overseas, you’d expect our President to be informed of this fact immediately so he can respond, not told about it when it was convenient the next morning. Being President means being on duty 24/7.
But if you’ll remember, Obama was suspiciously missing during the attack, and attended a campaign event the next day. Obviously, his priorities didn’t involve the safety of our personnel who were under attack.
As if we needed more evidence to show that Obama knew very soon that it was a terrorist attack, another email shows that the Administration was informed that Ansar al-Sharia, an al-Qaeda affiliate and confirmed terrorist organization, was claiming credit for the attack on the very day it happened.
And yet we’re still supposed to believe that the “best intelligence available” at the time Rice appeared on the Sunday talk shows was that this was a protest over some video?
In an email on September 11, 2012 at 6:17 PM, Alex McPhillips, Press Officer at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, advised Rice that Ansar Al-Sharia was attacking the consulate. The first reports came into the White House between 4:00 and 5:00 PM that day.
In the same email from Knopf concerning “Guidance on Events in Libya 9/12/12,” he asked Nuland what State knew about the group taking credit, Ansar al-Sharia. Nuland would only say, “It’s very early and I’m not going to be able to offer an assessment of this group.” The point is – it was known that Ansar al-Sharia was taking credit for the attack in a widely distributed State Department email on September 12, 2012. Everybody knew that the al-Qaeda-linked group was behind the attack.
Yet the White House statement of September 12, 2012 did not call it a terror attack. Obama called it “an outrageous attack.”
Perhaps the most egregious lie of them all was the statement by Susan Rice that the security at Benghazi was “strong and significant.”
The Libyan forces meant to protect the embassy actually consisted of known terrorists from the al-Qaeda affiliated February 17 Brigade, a jihadist militia that is accused of committing many atrocities during the Libyan Civil War.
In an email at 4:49 PM on September 11th– 49 minutes after the attack began, according to the State Department’s own timeline – State’s Dan Fogarty advised several officials, including Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, Victoria Nuland, and others that the February 17 Brigade were responding to the attack on the mission [consulate] “engaging the attackers, taking fire, and working its way to the compound to get to the villa…”
The February 17 Revolution Brigade is a jihadist militia that is tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. It was repeatedly accused of engaging in atrocities during and after the Libyan Civil War. Yes, with the world’s largest, most technologically advanced, and best-armed military, the Obama administration and State Department outsourced their response to a jihadist group.
Back in September 2012, according to the Daily Beast, “the intelligence community had an intercept between a Libyan politician whose sympathies are with al Qaeda and the Libyan militia known as the February 17 Brigade – which had been charged with providing local security to the consulate. In the intercept, the Libyan politician apparently asks an officer in the brigade to have his men stand down for a pending attack – another piece of evidence implying the violence was planned in advance.” In other words, it wasn’t a spontaneous reaction to a video about Muhammad.
In other words, the people we hired to protect our embassy literally coordinated with a Libyan politician who was in the know about the attack to stand down and let the terrorists right into the embassy. Absolutely disgusting.
Geller says that these are not only impeachable offenses but acts of treason against the United States. We have more than enough evidence to show that every one of these claims is true, and that Obama is actively keeping these documents from Congress to save his own skin. Sickening.

State Dept lashes out over second Kerry subpoena to testify on Benghazi

Image | Posted on by tomfernandez28

The chair of House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Secretary of State John Kerry for the second time this month over the 2012 Benghazi consulate attack, prompting an angry rebuke from the US State Department and Democrat representatives.

Darrell Issa issued the second subpoena on Thursday for Kerry to appear on May 29 before his committee and testify on the Benghazi attack, in which four members of the US diplomatic mission, including US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, were killed. It came days after he revoked the first subpoena for May 21, which the State Department said was in conflict with the secretary’s schedule.

“I lifted the subpoena requiring Secretary Kerry to testify on May 21 because the State Department made reasonable arguments for an accommodation and told our committee they were seeking a suitable alternative date for his testimony on a voluntary basis. But soon after I lifted the subpoena, the State Department backtracked – stating publicly that we should accept ‘a more appropriate witness’ and refusing to commit to making Secretary Kerry available,” Issa said in a statement.

The State Department replied angrily to Issa’s move, branding his tweet announcing the second subpoena “a headline-grabbing, highly political” attack on “the integrity of the State Department itself.”

“This is not the way legitimate and responsible oversight is conducted, and it’s a departure from the days when Rep. Issa himself once lamented that a Secretary of State should not be distracted from the work of national security to testify at the barrel of a subpoena,” spokesperson Marie Harf said in a statement.

“We will continue to work with the committee to resolve their request, but we have not made arrangements for a hearing date, and we hope to explore with them whether there are witnesses better suited to answer their questions and meet their needs for oversight.”

The Oversight Committee is one of five bodies in the House currently probing the Benghazi attack. Republican representatives voted Thursday on forming a Select Committee with an intention to merge the multiple probes into a single panel. Issa, a Republican, is not part of the select committee, and Democrats believe his second subpoena works against the Republican effort.

“Chairman Issa’s subpoena of Secretary Kerry calls into question the Republicans’ stated purpose of the Select Committee on Benghazi,” Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.

She said “the Select Committee is a sign of no confidence in Issa just as Issa’s action today is a sign of a lack of confidence in the Select Committee.”

A similar assessment came from Elijah Cummings, senior Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

“I don’t know if this is Chairman Issa’s attempt to reinsert himself into this investigation after the speaker removed him, but this looks more and more like the ‘sideshow’ and ‘circus’ Speaker Boehner said he would not tolerate,” Cummings said in a statement.

But Boehner’s office said the speaker supports Issa’s subpoena, while Issa last week defended the Select Committee idea, saying it would help focus the investigation on the White House actions in the wake of the attack.

Republicans believe that President Barack Obama administration hushed up details of the Benghazi tragedy to protect his re-election campaign. Democrats accuse the Republicans of spinning the investigation to score political points ahead of the November mid-term elections.

Clinton deflects Benghazi criticism, discusses Monica in book rollout rounds
    Published June 10, 2014

(Image deleted because no one wants to see her face anyway!)

This May 6, 2014 file photo shows Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton speaking in National Harbor, Md.AP

Hillary Clinton repeatedly deflected criticism over the Benghazi terror attack as she set out on a round of interviews promoting her new memoir -- while also tackling topics, like Monica Lewinsky, that the potential presidential candidate rarely discusses publicly.

The former first lady was also trying to walk back what could be her first campaign gaffe of sorts, after saying in an interview aired Monday that she and Bill Clinton were "dead broke" after leaving the White House.

Clarifying those comments, she told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that she and her husband "fully appreciate how hard life is for so many Americans." She said they left the White House roughly $12 million in debt -- but she also acknowledged that "we've continued to be blessed in the last 14 years."

Clinton is plastering the airwaves, on the day her book "Hard Choices" is being released.

In an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, the former secretary of State was repeatedly challenged on the events of Sept. 11, 2012, when four Americans died in the attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi.

Asked if she missed the moment to prevent the attack, she said: "No."

She acknowledged cables warnings about security problems at the compound, but said they were "never brought to me."

She said she gave "direct instructions" to people with security expertise, but said, ""I'm not equipped to sit and look at blueprints to determine where the blast walls need to be or where the reinforcements need to be."

At one point, she said she would "give anything on earth if this had not happened" and wishes they could have "made some of the changes that came to our attention to make as a result of the investigation."

"I take responsibility," she said, but then added: "But I was not making security decisions."

Clinton also said Republican inquiries into her handling of the deadly 2012 attack gave her more of an incentive to run. While she said she's still undecided about her political future, Clinton cited the Benghazi probe as an example of a dysfunctional Congress.

"It's more of a reason to run, because I do not believe our great country should be playing minor league ball. We ought to be in the majors," Clinton said. "I view this as really apart from, even a diversion from, the hard work that the Congress should be doing about the problems facing our country and the world."

She also spoke briefly about Lewinsky, who has started to speak out after years of staying out of the public eye. Clinton said she is "free to do that."

"She is, in my view, an American who gets to express herself however she chooses," Clinton said. "But that's, you know, not something that I spend a lot of time thinking about."

She added: "I have moved on."

On Tuesday, she continued to deal with fallout from her comments about her own personal finances, and being "dead broke."

Clinton said that she and her husband have "gone through some of the same challenges that many people have" and that they "understand what that struggle is."

Clinton's Senate financial disclosure forms, filed for 2000, show assets between $781,000 and almost $1.8 million. The forms allow senators to report assets in broad ranges. The same form, however, showed that the Clintons owed between $2.3 million and $10.6 million in legal bills to four firms.

The Clintons, though, did all right for themselves, and quickly -- Bill Clinton almost immediately hit the speaking circuit, making millions along the way.

Meanwhile, despite the family's debt, they got help back in 1999 from fundraiser Terry McAuliffe (now, the governor of Virginia) to secure a loan for a $1.7 million home in Chappaqua, N.Y. The home helped Hillary Clinton claim residency so she could run for Senate.

By 2009, when Hillary Clinton was preparing to join President Obama's administration as secretary of State, the Clintons' wealth was somewhere between $10 million and $50 million.

Republicans seized on the "dead broke" comment and said it demonstrated that Clinton, the Democratic Party's strongest contender for its 2016 presidential nomination, was out of touch.

"I think she's been out of touch with average people for a long time," said Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, pointing to Clinton's estimated $200,000-per-speech speaking fees and million-dollar book advances. "Whether she was flat broke or not is not the issue. It's tone deaf to average people."

On Benghazi, multiple independent, bipartisan and Republican-led investigations have faulted the State Department for inadequate security in Benghazi, leading to four demotions. No attacker has been arrested.

Asked whether she will testify before a new congressional committee investigating the attacks, Clinton would not make any commitments, saying it depends on how the inquiry is conducted.

"I'm not going to say one way or another," Clinton said. "We'll see what they decide to do, how they conduct themselves: Whether this is one more travesty about the loss of four Americans or whether this is in the best tradition of the Congress, an effort to try and figure out what we can do better."

How the Taliban got their hands on modern US missiles

    By Kenneth R. Timmerman

In his new book, “Dark Forces: The Truth About What Happened in Ben*ghazi” (Broadside Books), writer Kenneth R. Timmerman explains how the US government’s efforts to arm the Libyan rebels backfired, flooding weapons into Syria, and as he *reveals here, Afghanistan:

The Obama administration isn’t only giving the Taliban back its commanders — it’s giving them weapons.

Miliary records and sources reveal that on July 25, 2012, Taliban fighters in Kunar province successfully targeted a US Army CH-47 helicopter with a new generation Stinger missile.

They thought they had a surefire kill. But instead of bursting into flames, the Chinook just disappeared into the darkness as the American pilot recovered control of the aircraft and brought it to the ground in a hard landing.

The assault team jumped out the open doors and ran clear in case it exploded. Less than 30 seconds later, the Taliban gunner and his comrade erupted into flames as an American gunship overhead locked onto their position and opened fire.

The next day, an explosive ordnance disposal team arrived to pick through the wreckage and found unexploded pieces of a missile casing that could only belong to a Stinger missile.

    Modal Trigger

The Taliban took out a US Chinook helicopter in 2012 with a Stinger missile signed out by the CIA around the time of the attack.Photo: Reuters

Lodged in the right nacelle, they found one fragment that contained an entire serial number.

The investigation took time. Arms were twisted, noses put out of joint. But when the results came back, they were stunning: The Stinger tracked back to a lot that had been signed out by the CIA recently, not during the anti-Soviet *jihad.

Reports of the Stinger reached the highest echelons of the US command in Afghanistan and became a source of intense speculation, but no action.

Everyone knew the war was winding down. Revealing that the Taliban had US-made Stingers risked demoralizing coalition troops. Because there were no coalition casualties, government officials made no public announcement of the attack.

My sources in the US Special Operations community believe the Stinger fired against the Chinook was part of the same lot the CIA turned over to the *Qataris in early 2011, weapons Hillary Rodham Clinton’s State Department intended for anti-Khadafy forces in Libya.

    Modal Trigger

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Luis Trochez demonstrates how to use a Stinger on the National Mall in 2005.Photo: Getty Images

They believe the Qataris delivered between 50 and 60 of those same Stingers to the Taliban in early 2012, and an additional 200 SA-24 Igla-S surface-to-air missiles.

Qatar now is expected to hold five Taliban commanders released from Guantanamo for a year before allowing them to go to Afghanistan.

But if we can’t trust the Qataris not to give our weapons to the Taliban, how can we trust them with this?

Unfortunately, he won't remain in the hands of military, but will be transferred to the US Marshals, read his Miranda rights and put in jail to go to trial at some distant date in the future. Of course they will offer a lesser charge for information about higher ups.... he won't get the death penalty cuz, you know we can't upset Muzzie sensibilities, he won't be tried for terrorism per se, but will charge him with some lesser, non-death penalty charge.
