Where do they fit in the picture? Are their pro-West/democratic (small "d" ) overatures the real deal ... or are they as troubling to you as other former Soviet bloc countries?

In my opinion, I think that Poland falls into the same category as Hungary. That category being that they were an unwillingly occupied Soviet country.

I know that some people have far differing opinions on Poland but, that is where I stand.

I think that the recent news that Poland released about Russia's willingness to essentially use them as a "nuclear sponge" to absorb a number of nuclear strikes in the event of WWIV reinforces this opinion of mine.

This isn't to say that there are not TAA elements within Poland because, there definitely were/are a number of Communist collaborators. If there were not, Poland would not have been successfully occupied for the time it was. But, you will find those types of collaborationists in every country. I do not think that these people are the majority though.

Also, they made some of the best quality Kalashnikov variant rifles!

The country as a whole supports America at nearly every turn. This tells me they want to distance themselves from Russia as much as possible and they see the rest of Europe as being sops. I think we should move a huge military base into Poland for three reasons. First it gives us the strategic Eastern European forces we still need. (Regardless of what others think.) Second it would be a great help for Poland finacially and politically. Third it would be a birdie finger right at Russia.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.
