First Time? UFO 'Sighted' Over Temple Mount

    by Hillel Fendel
Follow Israel news on and .

At least three videos taken simultaneously appear to show an unidentified flying lighted object - a UFO, in common parlance - hovering directly over the Temple Mount late this past Thursday night.
One video was apparently taken by a tourist from the United States, from within or very near to the Old City, and the others were taken by Israelis at the Haas Promenade, less than three kilometers away. The videos have been posted on Youtube, including a video that features two of them synchronized into one.
Taken around 1 AM Friday morning, the videos show a ball of light dropping towards the Dome of the Rock, remaining there for about 24 seconds, and then suddenly shooting up and away. The first video shows the light revolving around itself, and then shooting upward with no accompanying flash of light. The other videos show the light higher in the sky for an undetermined period, then floating downwards relatively quickly, and then soaring upwards immediately after a light flash.

No official explanation for the phenomenon, if it actually occurred, has been advanced. Some observers have noted that though the videos appear to show the same thing from different angles, the fact that other lights in the scenes are not twinkling, nor do other things appear to be moving, indicate that the "UFO" was artificially introduced into what is actually a still shot of the Jerusalem night scene. Others are convinced that the videos are accurate.

A fourth video was later added, adding to both sides' certainty of their different viewpoints.

Official alleged UFO sightings over Jerusalem have been very rare, if any.

Instructions as to how to create a light ball effect on a video can be seen here.

I dunno. Not sure that she's fake at all. lol

You ever listen to the news down south?

Jeff Foxworthy said, "If you've been on the television more than three times describing the sound of the tornado, you JUST MIGHT be a red neck!"

Works with UFOs too. HAHAHA ( I can still here one of my grandmothers 40 plus years ago talking about and describing a "Flyin' Saucer" she saw traveling from Kentucky to Michigan for a visit with us one year.... She was terrified of it, but the story was the same year after year when she told it in her southern drawl, and later it was 'routine' and no longer "terrifyin'")

It has always amazed me that 3 major religions have the same location for their holiest place. If I were an alien society this is preciscely the place I would chose to reveal myself.

    /chuckles

Well, that's what Fox News seems to think. They refused to give the name of the production company responsible, or the name of the movie, but they stated that they have "done this same sort of thing in the past before upcoming movies are released".

And of course they didn't mention the movies from the past either.

    So who knows?

Just for what it's worth, you do realize that before you started this thread, I had put those UFO links in that other thread about alien life? I was surprised you didn't at least say "damn, can't see that at work". heh.

Close encounters of the fabricated kind

    By JONAH MANDEL
    02/07/2011 04:52

Fake YouTube videos showing lights over Dome of the Rock spark Internet debate ranging from theology, eschatology, one user’s genealogy.

Talkbacks (7) The lack of higher intelligence seems more acute than ever, with at least three fabricated YouTube videos recently posted showing the same spot of light floating above the Temple Mount in Jerusalem with the unconvincing oohs and aahs of those witnessing and filming the “UFO” in the background. The videos have garnered over 2 million views by Sunday.

On January 29, a user calling himself eligael posted a video showing a man with his back to the camera looking toward the Dome of the Rock.

“This morning around 1:00 AM at the promenade of Armon Hantziv in Jerusalm, i was witness (with another guy), an amazing ufo aircraft over Jerusalem old city (mount Moriah) Dome of the Rock,Temple Mount...What is the meaning of this sighting ???” eligael wonders in the description of his video.

Judging by the amount of views and many of the comments, when people want to believe something, they won’t let facts get in the way. The unidentified man and the cameraman attempt to sound amazed in their Hebrew exchange at the small spot of light that hovers above the Temple Mount before shooting up into the sky, joining a group of smaller red lights.

In an attempt to lend reliability to the first video, a second appeared the same day, showing the same view from much closer, with the same soundtrack. The next day, another video by 50nFit made its way to the Internet depicting the same event, sans the Hebrew-speaking men. Here, a group of English-speaking people, one of them apparently from Mississippi, express their wonder over what they pretend to be witnessing.

HOAXkiller1 is leading the pack of debunking videos, with some 350,000 views on Sunday evening for six separate pieces, showing the original photo available on Wikipedia Commons that was the backdrop for the rather primitive work done in an attempt to make it look like part of a video shoot.

Besides close-ups that showed the background image was actually a static image on a screen and pointing out the faults in the attempt to show flashes of light, an effect called “motion tile” was also used in eligael’s video to enable the deception of an authentic video camera shot.

Motion tile mirrors a bit of the edges of a static image “to hide the black edges created when they added fake camera shake to the video,” HOAXkiller 1 explains. “The camera movements are fake. That is why the mirror lines follow the movement of the camera.”

But such a fabrication could also be done using a real video, and a user identified as xbatusai posted a remake of one of the “original” UFO videos, in which not one but four pretty colored lights accurately mimic the pattern of the single light spot in the eligael piece.

The depiction of an ethereal light above the spot holiest to Judaism and holy to Islam engendered lively debate below the videos on topics ranging from theology, eschatology, contemporary Mideast politics, the Egyptian pyramids and HOAXkiller1’s mother, to name a few.

But as ryno2085 wisely summed things up, “UFO existence is fact, there’s more than enough of it around the world. Whether this video is real or not doesn’t change a thing.”

    UFO over Jerusalem?

By Benjamin Radford This story originally appeared on LiveScience.com
Several videos have surfaced online that supposedly show a UFO hovering over an Islamic shrine known as the Dome of the Rock on Jerusalem's Temple Mount some time after midnight on Jan. 28. The videos have sparked a furious debate about whether we finally have evidence of UFOs.
As a veteran investigator of many UFO photos and videos, these images strike me as highly dubious, and all signs point to a hoax.
Why are the Jerusalem UFO videos suspicious? SPACE.com's sister site, Life's Little Mysteries, counts the ways:

First, no one knows who took the videos. In UFO reports, as in police investigations, anonymous reports are usually a red flag that something's bogus. There are very few legitimate reasons why a genuine witness would not want to be identified. (For example, fear of reprisals from gang members or the mafia; though it seems unlikely that the aliens threatened anyone to keep quiet.)
If you were one of the first people in the world to capture some of the most amazing video footage of a UFO taken in the past decade, why would you post it anonymously on YouTube instead of either submitting it to professional analysis, or making money by selling it to CNN or MSNBC? (In fact, there's some speculation that most or all of the videos were actually posted by a single person, which would guarantee a hoax.) Surely at least one of the videographers -- or someone working with them — would have come forward in the past 10 days to sell their story to a newspaper or tabloid. Suspicious.
Second, not only do we not know who took the footage, but no one other than the videographers reported having seen the lights. The Dome of the Rock is one of the most famous and important religious sites in the world, and there are well over a million people in Jerusalem at any given time—many of them religious tourists near the Temple Mount. It's probable that there were thousands of people in the area at the time, yet no one else reported seeing or videotaping the bright light? Very suspicious.

Third, though one woman can be heard in a videotape saying that the mysterious light was so bright that "you can almost hardly look at it," the object does not seem to reflect any light from the gold-plated dome below it. This is very mysterious indeed, and strongly suggests that the "UFO" light was digitally inserted into the scene. (Note also that a generic light would be among the easiest "UFOs" to fake; you don't need to worry about drawing or animating spaceship windows or wings or shadows on the craft itself.) Super suspicious.

Then there's the strangely small size of the supposed alien aircraft, which can be roughly determined by comparing it to the size of the Dome over which it hovers. The UFO appears to be no more than about fifteen feet long, which seems awfully small for a spacecraft that presumably made it across the universe for its camera cameo.
For anyone who still sees a UFO through the sea of red flags, there's the video analysis that shows evidence of fakery. Robert Sheaffer, a longtime skeptical UFO investigator and author of the Bad UFOs blog told Life's Little Mysteries that, "the original Jerusalem UFO has now been definitely shown to be a hoax. Effects of the video processing software are clearly seen. The hoaxer used Motion Tile effects with edge mirroring to introduce camera shake into the video. You can see the mirroring effects along the edge of the video. This proves that the video did not go directly from the camera to YouTube, that it made a stop in between inside a sophisticated video editing software suite. Once you start editing it like that, a skilled hoaxer can put practically anything in it."
The Jerusalem UFO videos have created much controversy since they first appeared, with many believers vigorously defending the videos as real. They dismiss skeptical explanations such as these, but do not offer any better analysis. In science, of course, it's not enough to simply criticize a theory or explanation — critics are expected to put forth a better solution that fits the facts.
The appearance of the UFO over Jerusalem is ironic; for many, belief in UFOs is based on faith, not evidence.

Jerusalem UFO videos proven hoax, Temple Mount UFO videos are digitally faked

    9 February, 2011
    Tweet
    Share
Jerusalem UFO video clips that have been rocking the Web for last two weeks are proven bogus. Several UFO experts have brought on evidences to prove that those video clips, which were reportedly taken after midnight on Jan. 28, 2011, were digitally faked.

The video clips, which were posted by some anonymous sources on YouTube revealed a UFO floating in the sky over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. According to the videos, the unidentified object in the sky looked like the Muslim shrine named, the Dome of the Rock. It led several religious people to argue that the Dome of the Rock UFO video clips must be real.
It is then several UFO investigators began to make an in-depth investigation into the UFO vide clips. On analyzing the Jerusalem UFO video clips profoundly, it was revealed to the UFO analysts that those clips were digitally faked.
Analysts claimed that all the video clips, which featured the assumed Dome of the Rock UFO views from four sides, were uploaded to the Web by a single person. Further they argued that the suspected videographer never sold the exclusive video clips to any news channels, which could have provided them huge returns. Instead, the videographer posted them on YouTube.
Several times in past years, similar fake UFO clips were reported from Jerusalem and other parts of the world. However, they were proven bogus in some primary examinations. But it took UFO experts two weeks to recognize that the Jerusalem Dome of the Rock UFO video clips were fake due to their perfectness as natural visuals.
“If these are real, they are some of the most incredible videos ever shot,” said former Ministry of Defense UFO investigator Nick Pope. “If they are not, then this is a very well-planned and coordinated hoax designed to eliminate elements of doubt,” he added.
