Idaho Governor Selling His State to the Chinese? | Print | E-mail
    Written by Joe Wolverton, II
    Thursday, 09 June 2011 10:52

In a letter proudly publicized on a state-sponsored website, Idaho Governor Butch Otter (left, a Republican) describes a program designed to “grow Idaho's Gross Domestic Product” by creating “quality jobs for all Idahoans by fostering systemic growth, recruiting new companies to Idaho, and selling Idaho's trade and investment opportunities to the world.” The following is from Governor Otter’s announcement of the plan known as Project 60.

Project 60 is just a name. But it stands for a goal, and a way of getting there.

It means more than some abstract concept for increasing our gross domestic product. It means jobs and opportunity, hope and independence for the people of Idaho. That’s what I want you to think about when you hear about Project 60. This is an initiative in which we all need to be involved, to build Idaho’s economy together in a way that strengthens our businesses, people and communities.

No state or local agency, no government of any kind can successfully tackle this kind of goal alone. Project 60 belongs to all of us and it needs all of us to be champions of this effort. Today, I invite you to be a Project 60 Partner. This Web site is built for you to participate in the process.

Consider this “home base” for Project 60. This is where you will have the chance to offer “Top-to-Top” help in our efforts to recruit new and expanding businesses to Idaho, the chance to tell us about networking opportunities with your vendors and customers in other states, and the chance to become an ambassador for Idaho’s future. I want you to tell us about your own success stories and offer us tips and advice about what it takes to thrive in business here.

That brief introduction should be memorized by students trying to learn the craft of political speechifying. There is in Governor Otter’s letter nothing of substance, plenty of weasel words, and an extraordinary display of misdirection all designed to lull the citizens of the sovereign state of Idaho into a stupor while their state is sold to the Chinese.

A recent article described the goal of Project 60 in slightly less rosy terms. “Idaho, under the stewardship of Governor Butch Otter, has opened the door for a Chinese invasion....”

The details of the scheme seem to support that analysis. In very unclear terms, one of the principal planks of the Project 60 platform is known as “Inward Foreign Direct Investment.” As laid out on the Project 60 website, this portion of the plan will increase Idaho’s role “in global business” by providing foreign industry with “a strong impetus to economic development.”

The “impetus” is a two-pronged attack on Idaho’s domestic workforce (read: the middle class). First, through Project 60, foreign business interest are encouraged to take advantage of favorable national immigration laws.

Specifically, “The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service administers an immigrant investor visa program called EB-5. The program grants foreigners permanent U.S. residency in exchange for helping create U.S. jobs.” This prong will facilitate the immigration of Chinese nationals into the United States for the purpose of establishing a Chinese industrial beachhead in Idaho, under the guise of creating U.S. jobs.

The second phase involves the granting of tax breaks to the foreign companies. In exchange for an investment of between $500,000 and $1 million (depending on whether the target zone is rural or urban, respectively), the foreign investor receives tax incentives.

A story published recently on cnsnews.com explains how Idaho’s plan dovetails perfectly into the overall scope of China’s economic policy vis a vis its holdings in the United States. As reported by cnsnews.com:

China has dropped 97 percent of its holdings in U.S. Treasury bills, decreasing its ownership of the short-term U.S. government securities from a peak of $210.4 billion in May 2009 to $5.69 billion in March 2011, the most recent month reported by the U.S. Treasury.

    And:

Until October, the Chinese were generally making up for their decreasing holdings in Treasury bills by increasing their holdings of longer-term U.S. Treasury securities. Thus, until October, China’s overall holdings of U.S. debt continued to increase.

Since October, however, China has also started to divest from longer-term U.S. Treasury securities. Thus, as reported by the Treasury Department, China’s ownership of the U.S. national debt has decreased in each of the last five months on record, including November, December, January, February and March.

The Chinese, by wisely divesting itself of American treasury securities, can take advantage of our federal system (the co-existence of two equal sovereignties) and keep its fingers in American pies by establishing powerful outposts in the 50 states, thus by-passing the chokehold held over the national economy by the bust/boom cycle perpetuated by the Federal Reserve.

Put simply, Idaho (and reportedly other states, as well) are offering the Chinese a way to dump their useless treasury bonds without sacrificing the strength of their clamp on the economic pipeline of American industry.

The specifics of the wheeling and dealing between Idaho’s state government and their Chinese counterparts are unclear with a few exceptions. What is known is that “top Idaho officials have been traveling to China and entertaining the Chinese here, in order to help facilitate this.”

The result of these junkets? American Falls, Idaho will soon be home to a Chinese-owned fertilizer plant. A significant swathe of land south of Boise (about thirty thousand acres) was bought by China, a purchase Idaho’s governor promises will “reinvigorate our American industrial base.”

Idaho may be leading the race to court China, but according to The New American’s own Bill Jasper, Idaho’s southern neighbor is running full speed toward that same goal. From Jasper’s article published last month:

Utah’s Governor Gary Herbert, who led an April 2011 trade delegation to Beijing and Shanghai, said he was amazed by the scale of Chinese development and construction and impressed by the business community’s “embracement of free market principles.” Utah will host Governors from China’s provinces at the U.S. National Governors Association in Salt Lake City this July.

Governor Herbert got considerable help with China connections from former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, who has served for the past couple of years as the Obama administration’s ambassador to China. Huntsman, the millionaire scion of the famous Huntsman chemical empire, is leaving the diplomatic corps to throw his hat in the GOP 2012 presidential sweepstakes. His ambassadorial slot is being filled by U.S. Commerce Secretary — and former Washington State Governor — Gary Locke, also an enthusiastic China booster.

When confronted directly by constituents with questions about the ethical, practical, and national security implications of questionable business deals with the communist-controlled “People’s Republic,” the usual response from the China boosters is a flippant remark along the lines of: “Heh, heh, don’t you know, China is Communist in name only; they’re more capitalist than we are.”

Constitutionalists of all states must voice their opposition to the wide avenues being paved for China into our state economies. These agreements may soon leave us without the the check on "all encroachments of the national government" our Founders intended the states to be.

The Chinese Government Is Buying Up Economic Assets And Huge Tracts Of Land All Over The United States

In 2011, America is for sale and the communist Chinese are eager buyers. The Chinese government is using sovereign wealth funds and Chinese state-owned enterprises to buy up economic assets and huge tracts of land all over the United States. Many of our politicians hail all of this "foreign investment" as something that is "good for America", while many others see something much more sinister going on here. In any event, this is a trend that is rapidly accelerating and that is causing great concern among patriotic Americans.

In my recent article entitled "China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho", I examined a potential deal that Sinomach (a company controlled by the Chinese government) wants to do with the government of Idaho. There will be more on this deal in a minute.
But first it is important to note that this is a phenomenon that is happening all across the United States.
For example, a Chinese investment group is buying up a very large chunk of real estate in Toledo, Ohio. The following is a brief excerpt from an article in the Toledo Blade on May 26th, 2011....
Dashing Pacific Group Ltd., which has already purchased the nearby Docks restaurant complex for $2.15 million, put its $3.8 million offer to buy the southern 69 acres at the Marina District in East Toledo back on the table for approval by Toledo City Council. Additionally, Dashing Pacific Chairman Yuan Xiaohong, in a letter signed in Hangzhou, said the firm wants a two-year option to buy the decommissioned Toledo Edison power plant property on the site.
Even more disturbing is what has been happening down in Texas recently. The Chinese have been gobbling up our oil and gas fields. The following is a quote from one local Texas news source about one of these deals....
State-owned Chinese energy giant CNOOC is buying a multibillion-dollar stake in 600,000 acres of South Texas oil and gas fields, potentially testing the political waters for further expansion into U.S. energy reserves.

With the announcement Monday that it would pay up to $2.2 billion for a one-third stake in Chesapeake Energy assets, CNOOC lays claim to a share of properties that eventually could produce up to half a million barrels a day of oil equivalent.
You can read much more about this particular deal right here.
CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Company) has been buying up oil and gas assets all over the globe. They seem to have an insatiable appetite for them.

There is not much we can do about what is going on in other countries, but when we allow foreigners to buy up our own precious oil and gas assets shouldn't that set off "national security" red flags?

Not that our politicians are too concerned about real national security issues anyway. They just keep telling us that we will be just fine as long as we allow the TSA to grope our wives, our children and the elderly.

Getting back to the topic, shouldn't we be alarmed that someday soon we may be importing "foreign oil" that is being pumped out of Texas land?

It is almost as if virtually all of our politicians have lost all common sense.

Of course one of the most insane projects was the one that Sinomach proposed to do in Idaho. The following is a description of that project from an article in the Idaho Statesman....
A Chinese national company is interested in developing a 10,000- to 30,000-acre technology zone for industry, retail centers and homes south of the Boise Airport.
30,000 acres is close to 50 square miles.

That is a huge chunk of territory.

Fortunately, it appears that the deal is stalled at least for the moment.
But that could change at any time, especially considering the fact that the governor of Idaho is pushing hard for Chinese "investment"....

The following is a quote from Boise lobbyist Pat Sullivan....
“One thing these Chinese see is we have a governor here who has a great big open-door policy"
    Doesn't that just sound wonderful?

    A "great big open-door policy".

That just sounds so warm and fuzzy.

All of this is a part of "Project 60" - a huge initiative to revitalize the economy of Idaho.

The following is an excerpt from an open letter from Idaho Governor Butch Otter about Project 60....

It all sounds so great until you learn that one of the primary pillars of Project 60 is "Inward Foreign Direct Investment".

So how do you promote "Inward Foreign Direct Investment"?

Well, you do things like offer massive tax breaks to Chinese state-owned companies and you actively encourage immigration from China.

The following is a quote from an article on the New American website and it explains how a visa program known as EB-5 would help facilitate Project 60....
Specifically, “The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service administers an immigrant investor visa program called EB-5. The program grants foreigners permanent U.S. residency in exchange for helping create U.S. jobs.” This prong will facilitate the immigration of Chinese nationals into the United States for the purpose of establishing a Chinese industrial beachhead in Idaho, under the guise of creating U.S. jobs.
In fact, the state of Idaho is actually touting the EB-5 program on their website that promotes Project 60.

Yes, Chinese state-owned companies would probably hire a small number of Idaho citizens. But as I have written about previously, the idea would be for "special economic zones" to be set up inside the United States that would be very similar to the "special economic zones" inside China.
The following is how Wikipedia defines special economic zones....
A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a geographical region that has economic and other laws that are more free-market-oriented than a country's typical or national laws. "Nationwide" laws may be suspended inside a special economic zone.
Apparently the government of Idaho believes that allowing the Chinese to set up a 50 square mile "special economic zone" just south of Boise would be a grand idea.

But others are not so sure. Barbara H. Peterson recently posted the following on Farm Wars....
This is not a boom to Idaho, but a death knell for those who are rapidly losing jobs to overseas outsourcing, only this will be so much more convenient for the mega-corporations.
Today, the cost of transportation is rapidly going up. If state-owned Chinese companies can set up shop inside the United States and get massive tax breaks from state and local governments at the same time why wouldn't they want to do it?

The truth is that the Chinese can't believe how stupid we are.

30 years ago, the Chinese economy was absolutely pathetic compared to the U.S. economy.

But now they have almost surpassed us.

    Why?

Well, we shipped them thousands of our factories, millions of our jobs and trillions of our dollars.

For much more on this, read my previous article entitled "40 Signs The Chinese Economy Is Beating The Living Daylights Out Of The U.S. Economy".

It is insane what we are doing.

Now the Chinese are starting to colonize us.

Would we have ever allowed the Soviets to come in and buy up our companies and buy up huge tracts of land all over the country?

Yet somehow we have become convinced that it is okay for the communist Chinese to do it.

In fact, we even allow the Chinese to make many of the key electronic parts for our most advanced weapons systems.

It even turns out that some "counterfeit electronics" from suppliers in China have gotten into some of our military hardware.

A recent AFP article noted that "counterfeit electronics had "infiltrated" the Pentagon's supply chain, including microprocessors for the F-15 fighter jet and microcircuits for US Missile Defense Agency hardware."

Now China is even blocking an investigation into these "counterfeit electronics".

We have become dangerously dependent on China.

In fact, if our relationship with China went south, there would be a lot of weapons systems that we would suddenly not be able to get parts for.
The people that originally decided that it was a good idea for China to produce electronics for our planes and weapons systems should resign immediately.

We are allowing the Chinese to dominate us in hundreds of different ways.
As China becomes wealthier and as the United States becomes poorer, all of this is only going to accelerate.

China is going to become even more dominant in the years ahead.
Should we all start learning to speak Chinese?

    Mark your calendar!

There’s a new threat to our national independence and prosperity.

It’s the U.S.-China Governors Forum scheduled for July 15-17 in Salt Lake City and held in connection with an annual conference of the National Governors Association (NGA).

This forum is the result of recent agreements made by President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton with the leaders of Communist China. In her Press Statement, “Memorandum of Understanding concerning the establishment of the U.S.-China Governors Forum to Promote Sub-National Cooperation,” dated January 19, 2011, Clinton stated:

For two years, the Obama administration has made it a priority to strengthen the bonds between the United States and China. We have worked to extend mutual understanding and interests beyond national governments to individuals, businesses, and state and provincial governments….

That is why we support the National Governors Association and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in creating the Governor’s Forum, which is designed to help states build their own successful partnerships....

Many of you have likely been unaware of just how close our nation and China have become. For example, you’re probably not aware that our State Department posted a Media Note, “U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue 2011 Outcomes of the Strategic Track,” on May 10, 2011, that stated:

At the Strategic Track under the framework of the Third Round of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) held on May 9-10, 2011, the two sides discussed major bilateral, regional and global issues. The two sides commented positively on the progress in U.S.-China relations since President Hu Jintao’s state visit to the United States in January 2011, reaffirmed their commitment to the January 19, 2011 U.S.-China Joint Statement, and in accordance with the Joint Statement, committed to nurture and deepen bilateral strategic trust and work together to build a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit. The discussions produced 48 specific outcomes….

The 29th outcome welcomed the establishment of the U.S.-China Governors Forum that would be launched in July in Salt Lake City with a second meeting to take place in China in late 2011 or in 2012.

Overall the 48 outcomes agreed on by the U.S. and China are reminiscent of the laundry list of cooperative initiatives agreed on by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico at the Security and Prosperity Partnership summits held beginning in 2005.

To understand where all of the U.S.-China cooperation is heading, be sure to read William F. Jasper’s article, “China: The New Investment Savior?” (The New American magazine, May 23, 2011; also posted online at TheNewAmerican.com). In brief, state-run corporations from communist China are buying up natural resources and land with the U.S. dollars they’ve rapidly accumulated from selling us the products that we used to make for ourselves. For example, the China National Machinery Industry Corp., known as Sinomach, is negotiating to buy a massive 50 square miles of land near the Boise, Idaho airport as the site of a proposed manufacturing, trade, and technology zone.

What’s chilling about these bold moves to buy up America by the Chinese is the ecstatic reception they’re getting from the governors of many states.

    Furthermore, according to Jasper:
The national security aspects of China’s global investment program are complicated even further by an investment-immigration program sponsored by the United States government known as the EB-5 visa, which has the potential to bring to the United States tens of thousands of millionaire “princelings” of China’s privileged Communist Party as “small investors” in American businesses.
So, these are just a few of the facts regarding the U.S.-China Governors’ Forum, but I think you’re getting the big picture that “The U.S.-China Governors’ Forum Leads to Disaster!”

Please contact your governor now and ask him or her to protect our national independence and prosperity by avoiding further entanglements with the state-run corporations of communist China and by not participating in the U.S.-China Governors’ Forum in Salt Lake City on July 15-17.

Scroll down to send your message to your Governor. Personalize your message for maximum impact.

(This article was first published with the title "The U.S.-China Governors Forum Leads to Disaster" in the July 2011 Bulletin of The John Birch Society.)

    To: The Governor

Please do not participate in the U.S.-China Governors Forum being held with the National Governors Association in Salt Lake City, July 15-17.

Bloggers fear a Chinese takeover of Idaho. State officials say the investments will be a boon and pose no danger.

    BY ROCKY BARKER - rbarker@idahostatesman.com

    Copyright: © 2011 Idaho Statesman

Correction: In a story on page 1 Sunday, the foreign trade zones approved by federal officials were misidentified as free trade zones. Don Dietrich doesn’t overreact when he gets emails calling him a traitor or a dupe opening the way for an invasion of Idaho by Chinese Communists.

“Given what they’re reading, they are rightfully concerned,” said Dietrich, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce. “But what they are reading is in some cases nonsense.”

Much of the attention stems from what he told the Statesman a year ago, just before Gov. Butch Otter led a trade mission to China. The state has been looking for foreign investment to boost the economy here, and there is one foreign country with more investment potential than all the others.

“The Chinese are looking for a beachhead in the United States,” Dietrich said then.

The quote got a new life on the Internet starting six months later, when the Statesman wrote about a proposal to develop a technology zone south of the Boise Airport, broached with state and city officials in December by representatives of the China National Machinery Industry Corp.

A host of bloggers have reported that the zone has already been sold or that Idaho was looking at turning over a 55-square mile area to the Chinese government.

None of that is true — or even allowed under U.S. law. But that hasn’t stopped right-wing bloggers and the John Birch Society from turning exaggerated claims about the proposal and Idaho’s efforts to attract Chinese investment into a conspiracy.

“It just isn’t possible to develop Little China in Idaho,” Dietrich said. “U.S. labor laws don’t allow it.”

So far, the Chinese national company, also known as Sinomach, has not offered a specific proposal to state or local officials. Jeff Don, whose company C3 served as Sinomach’s representative in Idaho, said, “It’s not appropriate for me to make a comment at this time.”

But Dietrich and Idaho are not backing off their aggressive efforts to attract investment from China and other foreign countries. Already, foreign investment creates 14,000 jobs in Idaho.

“People have to understand this goes directly into Idaho projects,” Dietrich said.

    A LOT OF ATTENTION
The flurry of blogs and talk radio reports have generated hundreds of emails to state officials from people around the country fearful Idaho is selling its sovereignty to the Chinese. Links from blogs including the Drudge Report to the Statesman story that broke the news on Sinomach’s proposal in December brought tens of thousands of viewers and rocketed the 6-month-old article to the No. 1 most-viewed page on IdahoStatesman.com last week.

Some bloggers and Glenn Beck criticized the state soon after the story first came out. But the issue got new legs when the New American, a magazine published by the John Birch Society, ran a detailed article in May. The anticommunist group started in 1958 by candy manufacturer Robert Welch was named for an American soldier killed by Chinese Communists in 1945.

Author William F. Jasper portrayed Sinomach as a “commercial-political-military-intelligence instrument” of China’s Communist Party, and he used the Idaho example as a warning against allowing Chinese investment in the United States.

Another author, Joe Wolverton, later suggested that Project 60 — Otter’s economic development program that includes attracting foreign investment as a way to get the state’s gross product to $60 billion — was a plan to sell the state to the Chinese.

“Several years of recession and high unemployment, coupled with state and local budgets sliding toward the bankruptcy abyss, have led many political and business leaders to discount ethical and security concerns and look to China for a lifeline,” Jasper wrote.

Bill Turner, the self-described minister of the American Patriot Church, authored the post “Idaho to be first Chinese state” in the conservative Boise Examiner blog. He would not respond when his statements about China’s ownership of Idaho land were challenged.

“It appears that your line of questioning has gone from inquiring to attacking,” he said.

    IDAHO‘S MANY SHADES OF CONSERVATISM
The reports prompted questions for Gov. Butch Otter earlier this month when he held his Capital for Day in Castleford near Twin Falls. Otter explained the investment was producing tax revenues and jobs, but was limited by state and federal laws.

Otter’s long political history has been staunchly conservative, but he described what the blogs were reporting as “a lot of bad information,” that people have taken as fact “when one person writes it down.”

“There was probably a day long ago when I, too, would be concerned about this,” Otter told them.

The attack of such an isolated group would have little political impact in most states. But in Idaho, one of the nation’s most conservative, groups like the John Birch Society are in the mainstream, said David Adler, a politic science professor at the University of Idaho.

“The far right should find comfort in the leadership of Governor Otter and his overtures to China precisely because he hails from that ideological background,” Adler said.

AN OPPORTUNITY TOO GOOD TO PASS UP?
Dietrich isn’t giving up on the idea of a foreign development adjacent to the Boise airport, Chinese or otherwise. Sinomach was looking at developing a manufacturing and warehouse zone that could one day become a base of operations for Chinese companies doing business in the United States.

Boise’s Airport Commission can grant long-term leases and landing rights to air carriers, including those from China. The state could work with the federal government to set up a foreign trade zone where companies could qualify for reduced duties and higher quotas if they add value to products in the zone — like hiring American workers to assemble foreign-manufactured goods, for instance.

“Our Western airports’ ramp space is full,” Dietrich said. “It takes time to get through a place like Los Angeles Airport. They’re limited for space.”

Oregon recently provided Korea’s Asiana Airlines more than $800,000 in incentives to expand service to Portland. Boise would like to convince Asian shippers to fly the 45-minute longer flight to land here and increase trade and investment.

China is Idaho’s third-largest trade partner, with $657 million in exports from Idaho sold in China in 2010. And the state is on pace to see that increase. Idaho maintains a positive trade balance with China.

“We sell them more than we buy,” Dietrich said.

Idaho is one of 35 states that have attracted Chinese investment — investments that totaled more than $5 billion in 2010 alone, creating more than 10,000 jobs — according to a new report published by the Center on U.S.-China Relations of The Asia Society and Kissinger Institute on China and the United States.

The authors warn that political fear mongering will divert the Chinese investment stream elsewhere and recommend that the U.S. should send a clear and bipartisan message that Chinese direct investment is welcome. But they also say that not all Chinese investment is good for the United States.

David Shambaugh, a China scholar at George Washington University who spoke last year at Boise State University about the U.S.-China relationship, said strategic minerals like molybedenum and telecom companies are among the few products that should be excluded.

“We Americans need to look at inbound China investment with our eyes open for potential national security concerns, but we should welcome it because it brings jobs,” he said.

Yuan Tan tells anyone who will listen about the wonderful attributes of living and doing business in Boise.

She has lived in New York, Connecticut and the Silicon Valley, but after two visits here, she was hooked.

“I think it’s a great place to start a new business,” she said. “It’s also a great place to start a family.”

Tan moved to Boise to join her husband, Zaiyuan Ren, who works for Micron Technology. They chose Boise for the skiing, golfing and fishing — and for the housing that’s five times cheaper than in California.

She was volunteering with the Idaho Chinese Cultural and Business Center at the Boise Centre Thursday to help host the delegation of business and government representatives from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. The China Council has a 15-year relationship with the state of Idaho and has helped coordinate many of the trade missions to China.

The company representatives came from construction, light manufacturing, mining, food and electronics industries. They were looking for both trade and investment opportunities.

And the China Council itself put itself fully behind the state’s efforts to build on its $657 million in Idaho-to-China exports in 2010. China is the state’s third-largest trade partner.

“Idaho has the most favorable policies for investment in the U.S.,” said Zhan Ruichao, a China Council deputy director. “It also has the most efficient staff we have ever met.”

Like Tan, these Chinese leaders have read the conservative blogs and stories that have warned against allowing Chinese investment into Idaho.

But several said Thursday they didn’t think it amounted to much.

Ji Lie, deputy secretary general of the Chamber of International Commerce, Shanghai, was looking for investment opportunities in Idaho and was impressed with Boise. She dismissed the bloggers’ reports.

“I think we in China, the Chinese people, know the United States more than the American people know China,” Jie said.

Zang Xin, a China Council regional coordinator, said the bloggers’ fears of China aren’t just political.

“It’s the same thing that happened in the 1980s with the Japanese,” Xin said.

Midge Woods of Terra Blue, a firm that seeks to bring companies with common interests together, had brought Bill Rauser and Rodney Rohm of 208 Wireless Business Integration and Sharon Oberleiterner of Behavior Imaging to seek Chinese investors. She said the anti-China reports were based on ignorance.

“They never question. They never meet,” Woods said. “They never have a relationship.”

But the stories resonated for some.

A group of local residents planned to meet at Meridian City Hall Thursday night to “Stop the Chinese invasion of Boise.” The get-together was billed on Facebook as a follow-up to a meeting in mid-June.

Tan, the Boise newcomer, said she knows many Chinese who will like Idaho. She said all she has seen since she moved to Boise are friendly people who have welcomed her into the community.

“I hope to attract more Chinese investors and jobs,” she said.

She’s starting a business translating Chinese books into English and American books into Chinese. Boise’s only downfall, she said, might even be a future business opportunity for someone.

“There are not a lot of good Chinese restaurants here,” she said.

Chinese rush to buy US land

    Updated: 2011-07-28 17:25

    By Ben Yue (chinadaily.com.cn)

One Chinese office worker paid $8,800 through an online auction by chance and bought 1,000 square meters of land in Miami of US, the Guangzhou Daily reported on Wednesday.

The Florida-based seller, United Solutions of American LLC, said the land belonged to a company near bankruptcy.

Zhuang Nuo, the auction host from Chinese property agency Soufun International, said the land seller also put 100 pieces of 1,000 sq m land up for auction and will offer 30 US investment immigration application forms for the Chinese group buyers who spend more than $200,000.

The 100 pieces of land sold out on July 22 from 73 Chinese buyers. One of them bought 20 pieces.

New Flood of Illegal Immigrants Predicted---from China

Comes at a time when illegal immigration from Mexico is fading

    Jim Forsyth

Researchers at Texas A&M University, in a stunning report, say illegal immigration from Mexico is waning, and in some places has stopped altogether and even reversed, but the United States is facing the potential of a much larger wave of illegal immigrants in the coming decades--from China.

1200 WOAI news reports the shocking study is expected to change the attitudes of Americans toward illegal immigration, and shatter the myth of an invincible and rising China, with an economy poised to devour that of the Untied States.

"As many as 50 million Chinese could be leaving their home country in the foreseeable future, with several million of them coming to the U.S. in hopes of finding work," said Dudley Poston, Jr, the head of the Texas A&M Asian Studies department, and the lead author of the study.

He says those numbers dwarf even the largest estimates of the number of illegal immigrants from Mexican and Latin America who have settled in the U.S. over the past two decades, a figure generally pegged at between 12 and 15 million.

Poston says China is groaning under the weight of a massive number of so called 'floating workers,' who have migrated from the impoverished interior of China to the booming cities, largely on China's east coast.

"In the nation of China, it is illegal to move from one city to another without permission. You have to get what they call in China a Don Wei, which is permission to change your household. And if you live in a rural area, it is very hard to have your Don Wei changed to an urban area," he said.

The result has been some 200 million people gravitating to the booming cities to find work, creating a system similar to the illegal migration into the U.S.

"These people are doing jobs the Chinese don't want, they are making very small amounts of money, but far more money than they would have made back home," he says, adding that China's amazing economic boom has largely been the result of these floaters.

"As the economy in China continues to evolve, there are the first signs of unemployment," he said. "These floater who have moved from the rural areas and are sending the money back home, are now getting unemployed, and if they return back home to the rural areas without any money, they have lost face, which is the worst thing that can happen in Chinese culture. That means many many millions of them will head abroad, and many will come to the United States."

He says adding to the problem in China is the fact that the nation has a 'surplus' of some 40 million young men, of prime emigration age, due to that nation's 'one child policy.'

"These are people who know they will never be able to find a wife, have a family, or find a job in China. There is no reason for these people to stay in China."

He says a sophisticated network of human smugglers, who get Chinese into the United States for a fee of about $45,000 to $50,000 apiece, has already begun to emerge, known as 'Snake Heads' in China.

There are now about 3 million people of Chinese ancestry in the United States, and an estimated 300,000 are here illegally.

Poston's study of the waning of illegal immigration from Mexico and Latin America mirrors studies already released by Princeton University.

He says Mexico's economy is creating jobs at a rate far faster than the United States, and the unemployment rate in Mexico has fallen to about 4.9%, nearly half of the U.S. jobless rate. In addition, Mexico has created new educational opportunities for it's citizens in Mexico, and, probably the most overlooked and important factor in declining illegal immigration has to do with demographic.

"They have had a tremendous reduction in fertility, and are now down to about 2.2 babies per woman," he said, pointing out that throughout the seventies and eighties, the birth rate in Mexico was more than six children per woman, an unsustainable rate which 'no economy in the world could absorb.'

Poston says what remains to be seen is how the United States will handle a boom in illegal immigration from China, especially at a time when unemployment at home is expected to remain his for the foreseeable future.

He says that illegal immigrants from Mexico essentially involves Christians who speak a European language and who are descended from Europeans, and they frequently received a hostile welcome in a country which shares their culture.

"Americans are not going to be unhappy with these undocumented people who are of a different religion, and a different culture," he said. "It is not going to be an easy deal, that's for sure."

County to consider sale of 9,000 acres to Chinese energy company

The Clark County Commission directed staff today to consider a Chinese energy company's offer to purchase another 3,600 acres of county land for a massive solar energy plant and solar-cell factory near Laughlin.

ENN Mojave Energy Corp. now wants all 9,000 acres of available county land about 12 miles south of Laughlin, not 5,400 acres as first reported in June.

Former U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan, representing ENN, said an agreement with the county could be complete as soon as November. At that point, negotiations for a purchase-power agreement — between a power seller and potential buyer — would begin.

As soon as the agreement is struck, ENN will begin construction. If an agreement isn't reached, Bryan said, the land would revert back to Clark County.

When ENN's plans were announced, the company said the development would create 2,000 long-term manufacturing jobs paying on average $72,000 a year. The total construction cost for the solar-cell plant, industrial park and solar-energy farm was projected to be in the range of $4 billion to $6 billion.

Officials hoped construction would begin on the solar-cell plant late this year or in early 2012, with solar cells being produced by March 2013 and the first phase of the solar farm operating by March 2014.

The company's representatives have told Commissioner Steve Sisolak, whose district includes Laughlin, the addition of 3,600 acres would be used to build an "eco-city" at the site. The goal is a self-sustaining city with renewable energy generation and manufacturing as the primary source of employment for its residents.

"They have something like it near Beijing," Sisolak said.

Harry Reid Meets With 'Dictator' Hu Jintao -- and Reporters Are Told to Keep Mum

    Alex Wagner
    White House Correspondent

Two days after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Chinese President Hu Jintao a "dictator" on a Nevada talk show, the two men met face to face in the Capitol on Thursday morning.

On the heels of Hu's joint press conference with President Obama yesterday -- where the tense subject of human rights dominated the discussion -- journalists covering the congressional meeting were told by staff that the two men would not take questions during a photo opportunity, and that reporters were expected to adhere to journalistic standards and codes of ethics, or risk being ejected from the room. (Presumably, this meant no questions about sensitive subjects including Reid's dictator comment and the fate of jailed Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobao.)

Nonetheless, one reporter did manage to ask what business Reid "expected to get done with a man he had called a dictator." Neither Hu nor Reid responded. Joining the two men in a private meeting following the photo op were Chinese officials including Foreign Affairs advisors Dai Bingguo, Cui Tankai and Yang Jeichi, as well as Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), John Kerry (D-Mass.), Richard Lugar (D-Ind.) and U.S. Ambassador to China John Huntsman.

As part of his swing through Washington -- which has been accorded the full pomp and circumstance of a state visit -- Hu traveled to Capitol Hill Thursday to meet with congressional leaders a day after the White House feted him with a state dinner.

House Speaker John Boehner, like Reid, did not attend the dinner -- his office said Boehner would instead discuss matters privately with Hu Thursday morning. (A spokesman for Reid said the Nevada Democrat could not make the dinner because he was traveling Wednesday.)

From outside indicators, Hu had a fruitful meeting with House leaders, including Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), which ran overtime and caused a delay in the Chinese president's meeting with Senate leaders. Among the subjects discussed, according to Boehner's office, were economic ties between the U.S. and China, North Korean aggression, intellectual property violations, and "human rights" issues, including China's one-child policy. Pelosi's office noted that she broached the subject of Liu Xiaobao's detention and climate change with the Chinese leader.

In his comments Tuesday, Reid said that Hu "is a dictator. He can do a lot of things through the form of government they have."

Reid quickly realized his word choice was problematic, saying: "Maybe I shouldn't have said 'dictator,' but they have a different type of government than we have and that is an understatement."

Nevada emerges as shell company specialist

    By Adam Skuse

The US state of Nevada has set itself up as an offshore center specializing in shell companies that allow foreign firms to make backdoor listings on US stock exchanges.

Of 1,215 publicly-traded US shell companies monitored by financial consulting firm PrivateRaise, 588 are registered in Nevada, according to a recent Reuters report.

Nevada has the second-largest number of corporate entities registered per capita, after Delaware. Its business-filings unit generated revenue of $108 million in fiscal 2010, up from $43 million in 2002.

A recent spate of accounting scandals involving US-listed Chinese companies prompted the US to call for more transparency from Chinese auditing firms. However, it is by using the kind of shell companies prevalent in Nevada that firms from China and other countries are able to list in the US without submitting to the scrutiny of the local IPO process.

The number of companies in the state with questionable financial reporting processes is high, according to a University of Virginia Study.

On average, in each year between 2000 and 2008, 14.5 percent of public Nevada companies restated their accounting; 12.6 percent lowered reported net income; and 1.3 percent were the subject of fraud allegations or investigations by regulators, the study found. Nationally, 8.5 percent of companies restated their accounts, 7.3 percent reduced their reported net income and 0.9 percent were subject to fraud allegations or probes.

The US Money Laundering Threat Assessment released in 2006 named Nevada, Wyoming and Delaware as “the most accommodating jurisdictions in the United States” for the creation of shell companies, rivaling the Cayman Islands and Panama.

Nevada has also upped efforts to increase its ties with China, with the latter the state's third-largest foreign trade partner. From 2000 to 2010, Nevada's exports to China grew 4,797 percent and the Nevada Commission on Economics has appointed three independent state representatives to China. A fourth has been designated to handle just tourism, with tourism offices in both Beijing and Shanghai. The state is also encouraging Chinese firms to set up headquarters there.

Officials have also been courting Chinese renewable energy manufacturers as it seeks to build a renewables hub in the state. Earlier this year, Nevada-based Applied Soil Water Technologies and Shengong Environmental Protection Company of Shanghai signed a partnership agreement to market $85 million waste-to-energy recovery and recycling facilities.

ENN Group, a privately-held Chinese energy company, is planning a $6 billion investment into the state to build a 9,000 acre “eco-city” including a solar-cell manufacturing plant, a green energies industrial park, a solar energy farm and residential housing for employees in what would be the state's biggest ever investment from overseas.

    China’s eco-city in Nevada

Americans need to ask Harry Reid a few questions about the “Southland” in Nevada, a few minutes’ drive from Laughlin and the Colorado River! What is “Southland”? Southland, is a barren piece of desert in southern Nevada where a Chinese energy company plans to build the first eco-city in the United States. The heart of the 9,000 acre development is a $4 billion plan to build a solar panel factory…Chinese solar panel factory!

“We don’t manufacture much in Nevada. But we’re going to manufacture solar panels here, export them …”, “…the project’s Chinese backer, ENN Group, whose representatives declined to be interviewed for this article.

vegasinc.com/news/2011/sep/… ENN chairman Yusuo Wang told clean energy activists, experts and politicians in Las Vegas, through a translator.

    “We must redefine energy.”

Harry Reid also announced new financing for renewable energy projects: $737 million in loan guarantees for a solar power facility in Tonopah slated, and $353 million to back a high-speed transmission line project.

Wonder who pays for this? Taxpayers are paying for more green jobs, again? Why couldn’t an American company build the factory? Why China? An American company can export solar panels!

Northern Nevada…seems an American mining company got told they can’t get financing, financing scarce. WHY?

Chinese firm was financing an Australian project, the executives reached out to Hanlong Mining. Early 2010, Hanlong Mining put up $745 million. Yet, three top Hanlong officials in Australia were indicted on charges of insider trading, sparking a legal inquiry into Chinese investments.

    lasvegassun.com/news/2011/jul/…

Why are the Chinese mining in Nevada? Now we have the Chinese also mining in Nevada, Russians mining uranium in Wyoming…and to think we used to be worried about the Bay of Pigs!

Chinese company brings massive solar energy farm and a factory to manufacture solar panels to Nevada. This selection of Nevada was aided by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s secret April trip to China, where he met ENN officials. Reid’s involvement was crucial for obtaining a federal waiver needed for the development at $10,000 per acre.

The federal government has spent over $440 million subsidizing Nevada’s “green economy”. examiner.com/conservative-i…

A secretive trip to China? Who paid for this trip with nine other U.S. Senators, their spouses, staff members on the journey to China? Why the need for nine other U.S. Senators, spouses, staff members to travel to China? All of this for Chinese solar panels?

Harry Reid and Senators to China were: Dick Durbin (D-IL), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Johnny Isakson (GA) Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Mike Enzi (R-WY), and Richard Shelby (R-AL), their spouses and staff.

    Taxpayer $$$$$$$!

ENN Mojave Energy Corp., a Chinese solar manufacturer met with Reid during his secretive trip to China. The Chinese company wants to sell the energy generated by the project to California power companies. China’s ENN Group is to invest $8 billion in clean energy projects in the US over the next decade, according to the China Securities Journal.

The Nevada board technically made recommendations about design reviews, use permits and zone changes, for the proposed photovoltaic thin-panel manufacturing plant and its affiliated solar electric generating farm. Changing zoning from rural open land to designed manufacturing, both sides of the Needles Highway from the California border north to about Mile Post 4 would alter the classification of 2,479 acres of the approximately 5,400 acres. ENN Solar America, Inc., now wants 9,000 acres in Laughlin Southland. laughlintimes.com/articles/2011/…

Despite the current problems in the solar panel industry the DOE backed 2 more solar-energy firms. At the same time a German-based solar-panel maker is seeking U.S. sanctions against China!

Senators introducing bill to give US visas to foreign home buyers

FOREIGNERS may soon be given green cards in exchange for buying US houses in a bid to kick start the nation's reeling economy.

US senators are preparing to introduce a bill next week that would hand visas to foreigners who spend at least $500,000 on residential real-estate - a single-family house, condo or townhouse.

The move is part of a larger package of immigration measures designed to spur foreign investment in the US.

"This is a way to create more demand without costing the federal government a nickel," supporter of the bill, Senator Charles Schumer said.

    Pictures: US properties for sale

While foreigners would not be able to use the proposed visa to work in the US or stay in the country legally after they sell their properties, it will further fuel offshore demand for bargain houses in hard-hit areas such as Detroit and Atlanta.

Foreigners have accounted for a growing share of home purchases in Florida, California, Arizona, Michigan and Georgia spending $82 billion last year, as overseas buying of US housing doubled.

Emboldened by the soaring local dollar, Australians also invested heavily - about $600 million - in US property last year, according to the National Association of Realtors.
    "Hundreds of millions at risk"

But experts say Australians should be wary of being lured into the market, where investors risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars.

They warn that swaths of properties for sale are in bad neighbourhoods, where it would be almost impossible to get a tenant, and even harder to get your money back if you later decided to sell.

Many investors are being conned by agents promising unrealistic rental returns of up to 20 per cent.

Property pundits point to a number of other potential pitfalls including buying over the internet sight unseen, ensuring the property is in a location that potential renters like, local tax laws, and a tough market which might make it impossible to recoup your money.

Consumer advocate Neil Jenman earlier this year predicted thousands of Australians will lose their money after unwittingly buying undesirable property in the US.

"Some of the properties being offered are in ghettos and you need a bullet-proof vest and an armoured Humvee to collect the rent in there,'' Mr Jenman said.

Meanwhile in other property news, US house sales dropped in September following a spike in August, a major industry group said in a report highlighting the depressed market.

Sales of so-called existing homes fell three per cent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.91 million, from an upwardly revised 5.06 million in August, the National Association of Realtors said.

    Welcome to the Invasion

It looks like America is hosting an invasion. China is buying up bits and pieces of the country and announcing plans to create little Chinese settlements.

Looking back in history, the original Pilgrims that journeyed to America fromEurope came here seeking a new way of life. They came to escape the tyranny of their former countries.

The Chinese Pilgrims, however, are not coming here to acclimatize themselves to our way of doing things – they have every intention of creating mini-Chinas all around the country. According to an article by Michael Snyder at Activist Post,
“A Chinese group known as “Sino-Michigan Properties LLC” has bought up 200 acres of land near the town ofMilan,Michigan. Their plan is to construct a “ChinaCity” with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens. Essentially, it would be a little slice of communistChinadropped right into the heartland ofAmerica.
The article continues to detail China’s other large purchases of properties and industries. A few other targets are:

    • An industrial complex and an additional 69 acres in Toledo, Ohio
    • Over 600,000 square miles of oil- and gas-rich land in Southern Texas
    • A 10,000- to 30,000-acre technology zone for industry, retail centers and homes south of Boise, Idaho
    • 20% stake in a mine in Mt. Hope, Nevada
    • 1/3 shares of oil leases in Colorado and Wyoming

These areas are called “special economic zones” and they are quietly springing up all overAmerica. Although China is by far snapping up property and shares the most quickly, other countries are getting into the game.

257 “special economic zones” are already in existence within theUnited States.

These areas enjoy “special US Customs treatment to promote global free trade.” This means limited inspections and regulations. They will receive tax breaks for which Americans do not qualify, and in some cases will pay no taxes at all. They will be importing their own goods, not buying ours, which rules out any economic benefit for our country. Most who are employed by these companies will come directly from China, to be stationed in the self-sufficient Chinese cities. It is also interesting to note that “national laws” do not apply within the confines of the special economic zones.

The Chinese corporations making these deals and purchases, particularly Sinomach and Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation, are directly linked to and owned by the Chinese Communist Party.

They are not coming to “help” our economy, regardless of what the politicians want us to believe. They are coming to pillage our natural resources, raid our corporations and strategically place their own military within our borders, while we blithely allow it.

Not only is the economic encroachment alarming, but the possibility of fully loaded Trojan horses being invited into the country is a very distinct threat. America could be quietly invaded by a fully armed Chinese military and we wouldn’t know it until they opened fire.

    How could this happen?

1.) Large numbers of Chinese people will be allowed to immigrate quickly into the country, bypassing normal immigration procedures and populating the Chinese-owned zones.

2.) “Expedited” US Customs policies could allow weapons and military equipment, or the components to quickly manufacture these items, to be imported in any amount, without restrictions.

3.) The Chinese and Mexican defense ministers have held talks to discuss military cooperation. There is rumoured (this is unsubstantiated) to be a Chinese military stronghold being built and stocked in Northern Mexico.

American CEOs who are selling out to China are traitors to our country.

Political “leaders” who are paving the way for this to occur through loopholes and by-laws are also guilty oftreason. Oran’s Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as “…a citizen‘s actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation].”

This is a punishable federal offense, but unfortunately most people won’t wake up to this fact until the Chinese Communist Army military strike occurs on US soil.

    The invasion has begun.

Chinese company buys AMC movie theater chain

    By Calum MacLeod, USA TODAY

    Updated 24m ago

BEIJING – The Chinese are coming — to your local movie theater. With the fanfare from Superman, and toasts of red wine, representatives of Chinese company Wanda signed a deal in Beijing Monday morning to buy AMC, the second-largest theater chain in the USA.

    • By Ng Han Guan, AP
CEO Gerry Lopez of AMC, rear center, attends a Beijing news conference to announce the theater chain's acquisition.

    By Ng Han Guan, AP
CEO Gerry Lopez of AMC, rear center, attends a Beijing news conference to announce the theater chain's acquisition.

If approved by U.S. and Chinese regulators, the $2.6 billion acquisition will create the world's largest theater group, the companies said. The move, China's biggest corporate takeover to date in the USA, highlights the rising financial strength of its top firms.
Both partners stressed they plan no changes to the AMC brand, management and day-to-day operations. For the U.S. movie-goer, the AMC experience will change "not at all," insisted Gerry Lopez, CEO and President of AMC, except for an increase in renovations to upgrade some theaters.

"We have no plan whatsoever to promote Chinese movies in the U.S. market," said Wang Jianlin, Chairman and President of Wanda. A Communist Party member who sits on the nation's top advisory council — and one of the richest people in China — Wang admitted that poor content was a major reason for the lack of Chinese movie success overseas.

"If China has (a movie like) Avatar, it may really 'go abroad,' right?" he said.

A string of Hollywood blockbusters in recent months has lifted AMC back into profit this year, said Lopez. From humble roots in Kansas City, where it remains headquartered, AMC has over 18,000 employees, he said. "We like to say, 'we make smiles happen'," said Lopez. "Today, here in Beijing, so far from home, we like to think we have made some smiles happen."

He was definitely not in Kansas anymore, the city or state. China's movie market, the second largest after the USA, is growing fast through expansion of theater chains such as Wanda's, often located in the upscale mall and hotel properties it owns, including the ritzy location of Monday's signing in Beijing's central business district.

But the movie business here also reflects the central contradictions of modern China, where the movie world's standard glamor and deal-making must accommodate a ruling Communist Party that tightly controls what its citizens can watch on screen.

Among those giving congratulatory speeches Monday was a deputy minister of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. SARFT forms a key part of the machinery of state cultural control that limits the number of Hollywood films imported each year, and censors all film scripts before movies are shot within China.

Beijing is investing heavily in projecting its "soft power," or cultural influence, by boosting Chinese state media's presence abroad, including the USA, where the Chinese government has also run advertisements in New York's Times Square.

Without reforms that give directors and other artists more freedom over content, that "soft power" push will face difficulties, say some commentators. The Communist movie epic Building a Party, a massive hit here thanks partly to state-funded tickets and bussed-in audiences, met "a mediocre response when shown in the USA," wrote Liu Yuanju in Time Weekly newspaper last week.

"Even if Wanda controls the AMC chain, pays no heed to box office, increases the film's showings, and make up the losses with domestic resources, acting like this will defeat the purpose of exporting culture and even values — clearly, it will only provoke resentment," said Liu.

There are some events that makes one wonder if China has actually penetrated the Obama Administration.

It started when Obama had a private meeting with China and agreed to a 5 point Sino-U.S. relations plan and came away saying "we welcome China's rise" and "China's role on world stage is no cause for alarm".

Then Obama urges China to join US in ‘world leadership’ and gave
the PLA access to higher technology and looks to share nuclear weapons secrets with them.

China was invited to join the Administration in fighting terrorism even though
Obama just announced the War on Islamic terror is now over. Chinese cadets travel to U.S. for International Police Training at the same time Russian Paratroopers are invited to practice killing terrorists on US soil while getting familiar using US special service weapons.

Meanwhile, China's influence scrubs the PLA from Red Dawn and Homefront as the enemy, while at the same time the PLA develops its first Military Training FPS Simulator at War with America on US soil.

Then Obama wants China to Buy into Its Small Banks and the Administration clears the way for US Bank Takeovers.

Then as China Launches English Language TV Broadcast in Washington DC and gets their hands on 5048 screens across America as they begin they're new partnership with Disney to build animation content for International markets to make sure the sheeple stay fast asleep while they take this country without a shot.

I guess the Obama Administration doesn't just wish America was run like China but also wants it occupied.

45 Signs That China Is Colonizing America

Just because you were once the most powerful nation on earth does not mean that you will always be the most powerful nation on earth. Every single year, hundreds of billions of dollars leaves the United States and goes to China.

This enormous transfer of wealth has had a dramatic effect on both countries. In case you haven't noticed, many of our formerly great manufacturing cities such as Detroit are rotting away while shining new factories and skyscrapers are going up all over China.

If you go into any major retail store today and start turning over products, you will find that hundreds of them have been made in China and that very few of them have been made in America. As a nation, we buy far, far more from China than they buy from us.

As a result, China is absolutely swimming in cash and they have been looking for things to do with all that money. One thing that China has done is loan the U.S. government over a trillion dollars and this has given the Chinese a tremendous amount of leverage over us. China has also started to buy up businesses, real estate and natural resources all over America. This kind of "economic colonization" is similar to what China has already been doing in Africa, South America and Australia. The formula is actually very simple.

We send them our money and then they use it to buy us. With each passing day China's ownership over America grows, and it is frightening to think about where all of this could end.

The following are 45 signs that China is colonizing America....

#1 It was recently announced that China’s Dalian Wanda Group has bought U.S. movie theater chain AMC Entertainment for a whopping 2.6 billion dollars. This deal represents China's biggest corporate takeover of a U.S. firm ever.

#2 Earlier this month, the Federal Reserve announced that it has given approval for banks owned by the Chinese government to buy stakes in U.S.-owned banks.

#3 A few days ago Reuters reported that China is now able to completely bypass Wall Street and purchase U.S. debt directly from the U.S. Treasury Department.

#4 A recent investigation by the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services found more than one million counterfeit Chinese parts in the Department of Defense supply chain. How in the world could we be so stupid?

#5 After being bailed out by U.S. taxpayers, General Motors is currently involved in 11 joint ventures with companies owned by the Chinese government. The price for entering into many of these "joint ventures" was a transfer of "state of the art technology" from General Motors to the communist Chinese.

#6 A Chinese company known as "Sino-Michigan Properties LLC" has purchased 200 acres of land near the town of Milan, Michigan. The goal is to build a "China City" with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens.

#7 As I reported on recently, corporations controlled by the Chinese government have been rapidly buying up U.S. oil and gas deposits worth billions of dollars.

#8 Chinese investors have been gobbling up real estate all over New York City. The following is from a recent Forbes article....
According to a recent report in the New York Times, investors from China are “snapping up luxury apartments” and are planning to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on commercial and residential projects like Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn. Chinese companies also have signed major leases at the Empire State Building and at 1 World Trade Center, the report said.
#9 The Chinese are also doing huge real estate deals in cities in the middle part of the country. The following example is from an article in the Toledo Blade....
#10 According to ABC News, major road and bridge projects all over the United States are being built by Chinese companies. Meanwhile, there are millions upon millions of blue collar American workers that cannot find jobs. The following is a brief excerpt from a recent ABC News article....
In New York there is a $400 million renovation project on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.

In California, there is a $7.2 billion project to rebuild the Bay Bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland.

In Alaska, there is a proposal for a $190 million bridge project.
These projects sound like steps in the right direction, but much of the work is going to Chinese government-owned firms.

"When we subsidize jobs in China, we're not creating any wealth in the United States," said Scott Paul, executive director for the Alliance for American Manufacturing.
#11 The new World Trade Center tower is going to include glass that has been imported from China.

#12 The new Martin Luther King memorial on the National Mall was made in China.

#13 Check out this incredible photo which contrasts the decline of Detroit over the years with the amazing rise of Shanghai, China.

#14 A couple of years ago, a large Chinese company was considering building "a 10,000- to 30,000-acre technology zone for industry, retail centers and homes" just south of Boise, Idaho.

#15 Our trade deficit with China in 2011 was $295.5 billion. That was the largest trade deficit that one country has had with another country in the history of the planet.

    #16
In 2011, our trade deficit with China was 28 times larger than it was back in 1990 and more than 49,000 times larger than it was back in 1985.

    #17
Back in 1998, the United States had 25 percent of the world’s high-tech export market and China had just 10 percent. Today, China's high-tech exports are more than twice the size of U.S. high-tech exports.

    #18
America has lost more than a quarter of all of its high-tech manufacturing jobs over the past ten years.

    #19
According to the Economic Policy Institute, America is losing half a million jobs to China every single year.

    #20
The U.S. spends about 4 dollars on goods and services from China for every one dollar that China spends on goods and services from the United States. Does that sound like "fair trade" to you?

    #21
While we allow Chinese goods to freely flood our shores, China just keeps slapping new tariffs on American-made goods. According to the New York Times, a Jeep Grand Cherokee that costs $27,490 in the United States costs about $85,000 in China thanks to all the tariffs.

    #22

China now holds approximately 1.17 trillion dollars of U.S. government debt. If you were alive back when Jesus was born and you had spent a million dollars every single day since then, you still would not have spent that much money by now.

In compiling the statistics above, I relied heavily on two articles that I previously authored. You can find them here and here.

Please share this list with as many people as you can. It is imperative that the American people get educated about why our economy is falling apart and about why there are so few jobs.

Thanks to the foolishness of our politicians, today American workers have to compete directly for jobs with workers on the other side of the globe where it is legal to pay slave labor wages.

Do you want your standard of living to continue to descend toward the level of a communist worker making about a dollar an hour?

Do you want tens of millions of American workers to be unemployed indefinitely as millions of good jobs continue to leave this country?

If not, you better stand up and say something while you still can.

The greatest economy the world has ever seen is falling to pieces right in front of our eyes and most Americans are dead asleep.

Is there any hope for us?

Default Re: Is China developing a beachhead inside the borders of America?

Will Toledo, Ohio Be The First Major American City To Be Owned By China?

It has been said that there are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One way is by using the sword, and the other is by using debt. Fortunately, America is not in danger of being conquered by the sword right now, but America is being conquered by debt. The borrower is the servant of the lender, and today we owe China more than a trillion dollars. By running a gigantic trade deficit with us, China has been able to become incredibly wealthy. We have begged them to lend us back some of the money that we have sent them and this has made them even wealthier. Now China is gobbling up U.S. real estate and U.S. assets at an astounding pace. In fact, some cities are in danger of becoming completely dominated by Chinese ownership. One of those cities is Toledo, Ohio. In many "rust belt" areas, real estate can be had for a song, and the Chinese are taking full advantage of this. America was once the wealthiest nation on earth, but now we are drowning in debt and we are being sold off in chunks to the highest bidder. Is this the legacy that we are going to leave for future generations?
According to a recent Fortune article, Chinese investors have been very busy purchasing distressed commercial real estate in Toledo lately....
In March 2011, Chinese investors paid $2.15 million cash for a restaurant complex on the Maumee River in Toledo, Ohio. Soon they put down another $3.8 million on 69 acres of newly decontaminated land in the city's Marina District, promising to invest $200 million in a new residential-commercial development. That September, another Chinese firm spent $3 million for an aging hotel across a nearby bridge with a view of the minor league ballpark.
Toledo is being promoted to Chinese investors as a "5-star logistics region". From Toledo it is very easy to get to Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Indianapolis.
With a population of 287,000, Toledo is only the fourth largest city in Ohio, but it lies at the junction of two important highways -- I-75 and I-80/90. "My vision is to make Toledo a true international city," Toledo's Mayor Mike Bell told the Toledo Blade.
For some reason the Chinese seem to be very interested in that area of the country. Last month, I wrote about how one Chinese group plans to develop a 200 acre "China city" just 40 minutes away from Toledo....
A Chinese group known as "Sino-Michigan Properties LLC" has bought up 200 acres of land near the town of Milan, Michigan. Their plan is to construct a "China City" with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens. Essentially, it would be a little slice of communist China dropped right into the heartland of America. This "China City" would be located about 40 minutes from both Detroit and Toledo, and it would be marketed to Chinese business people that want to start businesses in the United States.
But it is not just the rust belt that is being bought up by the Chinese. A recent Forbes article documented several of the huge real estate deals that the Chinese are doing in New York right now....
In addition to real estate, the Chinese are also buying up businesses and natural resources all over the United States.

For example, the Dalian Wanda Group recently bought U.S. movie theater chain AMC Entertainment for 2.6 billion dollars.

Also, the Obama administration has been allowing companies owned by the Chinese government to gobble up U.S. oil and gas deposits worth billions of dollars.
On top of all that, the Federal Reserve recently announced that it will now allow Chinese banks to start buying up American banks.
So how in the world did we come to be so completely and totally dominated by China?
Well, the key to all of this is the trade deficit.

Most Americans can't even tell you what a trade deficit is, but it is at the very heart of our economic problems.

Basically, we buy far, far more from other countries than they buy from us.

Most Americans don't realize this, but the truth is that the United States has a trade imbalance that is more than 5 times larger than any other nation on earth has.

Overall, the U.S. has run a trade deficit of more than 8 trillion dollars with the rest of the globe since 1975.

If you go into a Wal-Mart of a dollar store today and you start looking at product labels, you will notice that hundreds of products say "made in China" and very few of them say that they were made in this country.

Every single month, China sends us gigantic mountains of plastic crap to sell in our stores and we send them gigantic mountains of our money.

The U.S. trade deficit with China during 2011 was $295.4 billion. That was the largest trade deficit that one country has had with another country in the history of the planet.

Sadly, so far our trade deficit with China in 2012 is about 12 percent larger than it was last year.

So things are getting even worse.

To get an idea of how far things have come, let us take a look back at the 1980s for a moment.

Back in 1985, the U.S. trade deficit with China was only 6 million dollars for the entire year.

All of this imbalanced trade is absolutely killing us.

Today, the United States spends about 4 dollars on goods and services from China for every one dollar that China spends on goods and services from the United States.

So why doesn't China buy more stuff from us?

Well, there are a whole lot of reasons. One of the main reasons is that they slap huge tariffs on many American-made goods.

For example, according to the New York Times a Jeep Grand Cherokee that costs $27,490 in the United States costs about $85,000 in China thanks to all the tariffs.

So why do we allow China to keep doing this to us?

That is a very good question.

Meanwhile, China is continually getting wealthier and we are continually getting poorer.

All of the money that is leaving this country and going to China could be going to U.S. businesses and U.S. workers instead. In turn, those businesses and workers would pay taxes on that money to support the government.

Instead, we have to go beg China to lend us the money that we just sent to them.

At this point, China now holds approximately 1.17 trillion dollars of U.S. government debt.

None of this ever had to happen.

But it did happen because we were stupid.

Now China has mountains of money to literally buy us up.

But China is not the only country that we have an imbalanced trading relationship with.

For example, the new "free trade agreement" between the United States and South Korea that Barack Obama has been touting went into full effect on March 15, 2012.

So how has that "free trade agreement" turned out so far? The following is from a recent article by Pat Buchanan....
The U.S. trade deficit with Korea tripled in one month. Imports from South Korea jumped 15 percent to $5.5 billion in April, while U.S. exports to South Korea fell 12 percent to $3.7 billion. Suddenly, the U.S. trade deficit with Seoul surged to an annual rate of $22 billion.

Shades of NAFTA. When it passed in 1993, we had a $1.6 billion trade surplus with Mexico. By 2010, our trade deficit with Mexico had reached $61.6 billion.
    Ouch.

The truth is that these free trade agreements are not fair and balanced.
U.S. workers end up competing for jobs with workers in countries where it is legal to pay slave labor wages. And other countries often have far fewer rules and regulations to follow as well. In his recent article, Buchanan described why all Americans should be economic nationalists....
Global free trade means U.S. workers compete with Asian and Latin American workers whose wages are a fraction of our own and whose benefits may be nonexistent. Global free trade means U.S factories that relocate to Indonesia or India need not observe U.S. laws on health, safety, pollution or paying a minimum wage.

Global free trade means that companies that move factories outside the United States can send their products back to the United States free of charge and undercut businessmen who retain their American workers and live within American laws.
Free trade makes suckers and fools out of patriots.
Unfortunately, both major political parties in the United States are absolutely married to the one world economic agenda that the elite are pushing.

So we will continue to bleed wealth, businesses and jobs at an astounding pace.

You can get a really good idea of the horrific manufacturing job losses in the United States over the past 40 years by checking out this map right here.
Overall, the United States has lost a total of more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities since 2001.

According to the Economic Policy Institute, since 2001 America has lost approximately 2.8 million jobs due to our trade deficit with China alone.
There seems to be absolutely no concern with protecting American jobs these days.

If you can believe it, Chinese corporations are even building our bridges.
Americans need to start understanding that our trade deficit is causing us to lose massive numbers of businesses and jobs and that this is making us poorer as a nation.

As I wrote about the other day, the median net worth of families in the United States declined "from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010" according to the Federal Reserve.

Even if you take away the effect of the housing collapse, household net worth still declined by 25 percent between 2005 and 2010.

A lot of that decline in wealth was due to the recent recession, but the point I am trying to make is that we are getting poorer as a nation.

A decade ago, the United States was ranked number one in average wealth per adult. By 2010, the United States had fallen to seventh.

And when you factor in our debts, we are a complete and total mess. U.S. consumers are more than 11 trillion dollars in debt and the federal government is nearly 16 trillion dollars in debt.

We are getting deeper in debt at the same time that our ability to service that debt is declining.

The reality is that our economy is completely falling apart and it no longer produces enough jobs for everyone.

In fact, it isn't even close.

Right now there are about 3.7 workers that are "officially" unemployed for every single job opening.

So what we are doing right now is clearly not working.

We need to fundamentally change direction as a nation.

Unfortunately, that is not going to happen any time soon.

So where do we go from here?
