Bachmann's New Hampshire campaign staff quit

    WASHINGTON | Fri Oct 21, 2011 1:29pm EDT

(Reuters) - Staff members in New Hampshire for presidential candidate Michele Bachmann have resigned en masse, a Republican familiar with the situation said on Friday, in a fresh blow to her 2012 hopes.
All of the staffers, said to number six, resigned on Thursday, the Republican said.
New Hampshire's WMUR television said the reason given was due to the Bachmann campaign's lack of focus on New Hampshire, which holds the country's first primary election.
"It certainly underscores the impression that New Hampshire isn't a priority for her. She's totally written us off," said former Republican state legislator Fran Wendelboe.
Bachmann has focused much of her efforts on Iowa, whose January 3 caucuses are the first U.S. nominating contest of the 2012 election cycle. Bachmann's conservative message has a greater chance of achieving a breakthrough in Iowa, where social conservatives are a dominant voice.
Bachmann has been on a slow fade since winning the Iowa straw poll of Republican voters in August. Bachmann has only been registering single digits in polls of New Hampshire Republican voters. In Iowa, she has been in fourth place in the polls behind Herman Cain, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.
The head of the Tea Party caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, Bachmann has been faltering amid weak debate performances and the departure of key staff members. She raised roughly $4 million in campaign funds in the third quarter and spent nearly $6 million. She has roughly $1.3 million cash on hand.

Ken Sorenson (spelling?) bailed on Bachman today.

Bachmann says he bailed because Ron Paul offered "a lot of money" to him and he is calling her a liar on TV right now.

Well, he is "claiming he never had that conversation" that she pointed out (him being offered money by Paul's camp).

Sounds like he is the one lying from what Megan Kelly is throwing at him. LOL

    He lied.

I JUST LIED> I just saw it. He said "I was never offered money by the Ron Paul campaign".

She said "or anyone else in anyway associated with his campaign?"

He stuttered, looked down, thought about it, shook his head and said "no, I wasn't offered a nickle"

He didn't answer her question. He wasn't offered a "nickle" but was probably "offered a LOT of money" by SOMEONE associated by the Ron Paul campaign to jump ship on Bachmann and go to Paul.

Michele Bachmann Presidential Campaign Investigation Joined By FBI

The Huffington Post | By Nick Wing Posted: 05/20/2013 10:50 am EDT

The FBI has jumped into a multi-pronged investigation of alleged misconduct by the failed presidential campaign of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported on Sunday.

While the FBI wouldn't confirm or deny any involvement in the probe, sources with knowledge of the campaign and the investigation told the Star Tribune that the FBI had made inquiries about former Bachmann chief of staff Andy Parrish, as well as other former staffers.

News that Bachmann's campaign had drawn an ethics investigation first broke in March, and the extent of alleged violations has only expanded since then. Newer claims include allegations of secret payments to campaign aide and Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson (R), as well as improper use of Bachmann's leadership PAC funds to pay a political director for the campaign.

Parrish said in a sworn affidavit in April that Bachmann "knew and approved" of payments to Sorenson. Peter Waldron, Bachmann's former national field coordinator, has also filed a complaint alleging that Bachmann's campaign funneled leadership PAC money through a fundraising group to pay Sorenson, a claim that has also reportedly drawn the attention of the FBI, according to the Star Tribune. Sorenson has denied these allegations.

As the Iowa Republican website points out, the FBI becomes the latest in a long line of agencies now involved in the probe of Bachmann's campaign. The Federal Election Commission, the Office of Congressional Ethics, the Iowa Senate Ethics Committee and the Urbandale Police Department have all mounted their own investigations into various aspects of the numerous claims.

Bachmann has meanwhile maintained her innocence and expressed optimism that she'll be cleared of any wrongdoing. Others are more skeptical, however, considering the expansive nature of the charges against her campaign.

Craig Holman, a government ethics lobbyist at liberal-leaning watchdog group Public Citizen, told Salon in May that Bachmann could face serious repercussions.

"It's not Watergate, or at least not yet, but these are a series of allegations that are each serious on their own, and when you put them all together, this could be a career ender for Michele Bachmann," he said.

While the focus remains largely on the alleged misconduct of her presidential campaign, Bachmann must also contend with a re-energized challenge from Democrat Jim Graves, a wealthy businessman who nearly toppled the congresswoman in 2012. Graves began his latest campaign just months after his November defeat, and national Democrats who in 2012 appeared unconvinced of his chances against Bachmann -- a formidable fundraiser with national name recognition -- have already signalled that they'll be willing to support his campaign this time around.

It is a personal take down of her. While she may have done these things, maybe, note that the same or worse has been and continues to be done by others. Her difference is being super critical of Obama.

Yeah, it's call "demonization of the right".

Mark Levin said something yesterday that really struck me pretty hard.

He said that "Constitutionalists are not Right Wingers. They are in the middle. They are Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians who all believe in and support the Constitution".

The Left, the Socialists and Progressives are trying to completely demonize everyone who falls in those categories and make them appear to all be right wing nut jobs.

In FACT that group of people ALL support 1st and 2nd Amendment rights.

    Bachmann's Ethical Baggage

    • May 21, 2013, 4:07 p.m. ET

Is an ethics investigation hurting Rep. Michele Bachmann's re-election bid? A new poll suggests that the tea party Republican from Minnesota might have trouble keeping her job in 2014.

Public Policy Polling (PPP) released an internal poll on behalf of Ms. Bachmann's challenger—hotel executive Jim Graves—which found the congresswoman trailing by two points. Ms. Bachmann barely defeated Mr. Graves in 2012, despite the district being heavily Republican. The re-match is shaping up to be a tough fight, with the incumbent already running campaign ads.

It's not time for Ms. Bachmann to panic just yet. Internal polls tend to favor the candidate who commissioned them. The district is still heavily Republican, and a number of factors which played into the race last year won't be an issue this year.

During her 2012 White House bid Ms. Bachmann was notorious for missing votes in order to campaign, which didn't play too well in her home district. It also didn't help that she spent most of that summer touting her Iowa roots.

What threatens to derail Ms. Bachmann's campaign this year, however, is also what likely played a role in the close nature of the PPP poll. This month, the FBI joined the Federal Elections Commission and Office of Congressional Ethics in investigating allegations the Bachmann presidential campaign illegally used funds to discreetly pay an Iowa state senator and several other campaign staffers. While Ms. Bachmann herself is not under investigation, the scrutiny isn't helping.

"It's front page news here," Minnesota-based political consultant Scott Cottington tells me. "If it's eventually proven Bachmann personally approved any financial impropriety, she's going to have a tough time overcoming that."
This race could be one to watch in 2014.

Tea Party fave Bachmann won't run for Congress again

    Catalina Camia, USA TODAY8:57 a.m. EDT May 29, 2013

Minnesota lawmaker became a national figure by leading House Tea Party Caucus and criticizing President Obama's health care law.

WASHINGTON — Tea Party favorite Michele Bachmann, a GOP conservative who ran for president last year, made a surprise announcement Wednesday and said she will not seek re-election to a fifth term in Congress.

The Minnesota Republican was facing inquiries into her 2012 presidential campaign and a potential 2014 rematch with Democrat Jim Graves, a wealthy hotel executive who came within about 4,300 votes of defeating her in November. She had already bought airtime in Minnesota to begin running campaign ads.

"My decision was not influenced by any concerns about my being re-elected," Bachmann said in a video posted on her website.

Bachmann added, "This decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign."

Former Bachmann aide Peter Waldron in January filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, claiming the congresswoman made improper payments to an Iowa state senator who was the state chairman of her presidential campaign. Waldron accused Bachmann of other FEC violations.

Bachmann, 57, made a name for herself in Congress by staunchly opposing President Obama's health care law. She co-founded the House Tea Party Caucus, a group dedicated to the anti-tax, small government principles that sparked the movement.

Her outspoken critique of Obama and frequent TV appearances, along with support from the Tea Party, invariably led to comparisons with Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican Party vice presidential nominee. Palin had backed Bachmann during her 2010 re-election bid, when she faced a tough fight against Democrat Tarryl Clark. Bachmann said she viewed Palin as a friend and not a competitor.

In her presidential campaign, Bachmann tried to tap into her support from Tea Partiers — who also felt political kinship with candidates such as Rick Santorum and Rick Perry — in her bid for the GOP presidential nomination. She made a number of gaffes on the campaign trail, such as the time she suggested the Revolutionary War battles at Lexington and Concord occurred in New Hampshire.

Bachmann blasted Perry, the Texas governor, in one televised GOP debate over mandating the HPV vaccine for schoolgirls and suggested it would lead to retardation. The American Academy of Pediatrics and other doctors spoke out to correct Bachmann, saying that the HPV vaccine, which prevents cervical cancer, would not cause mental retardation.

It was a quick rise — and fall — on the national scene for Bachmann, who declared her intention to seek the White House during a televised debate in June 2011. The Iowa native later that summer won the Ames Straw Poll, a state Republican Party fundraiser that is viewed as a gauge of grassroots support for the first-in-the-nation caucuses.

But Bachmann had trouble consolidating support among the Tea Party faithful and social conservatives, and dropped out the morning after the Iowa caucuses.

Months after some of her presidential rivals had already done so, Bachmann endorsed Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination.

Bachmann routinely was among the House's top fundraisers and her 2012 race against Graves, the former CEO of the AmericInn chain, was one of the most expensive in the country last year. She raised nearly $15 million last year to about $2.3 million for Graves, and wasted no time cranking up her fundraising machine for the 2014 elections.

In one such e-mail pitch, Bachmann proclaimed that the "Pelosi-Obama campaign machine" was taking aim at her.

The House Majority PAC, which works to elect Democrats to Congress, hailed Bachmann's decision to retire and promised to help Graves win the seat based in the Twin Cities suburbs.

"Bachmann was one of House Majority PAC's top 10 targets for many reasons: her out-of-touch and extreme right-wing views, her penchant for making repeated and false and outlandish statements and the growing investigation into unethical and potentially even criminal activities," said Alixandria Lapp, executive director of the House Majority PAC. "We are confident that we would have helped defeat her next November, but Bachmann voluntarily removing herself from Congress is a victory we can all celebrate today."

Bachmann promised in her video to "continue to work overtime for the next 18 months in Congress defending the same Constitutional conservative values we have worked so hard on together."

As for her plans beyond Congress, Bachmann said, "There is no future option or opportunity, be it directly in the political arena or otherwise, that I won't be giving serious consideration if it can help save and protect our great nation."

Is Hillary a Lock for 2016? Polls Show Clinton Trampling the Competition

    By: Lauren Saccone

It’s been barely six months since the 2012 presidential election came to a dramatic conclusion. After what felt like an eternal campaign with endless debates and attack commercials, President Obama was reelected, Mitt Romney was defeated, and we could forget all about presidential hopefuls for another few years...or so we thought.

It seems that was all wishful thinking. In politics, campaigning never really ends, especially when you have your eye on the presidency. And when you’re part of a political dynasty, the stakes are even higher. Politics are a gamble, and there’s no harm in trying to stack the odds in your favor. But when it comes to the 2016 presidential election, one potential candidate might already have it in the bag — and she isn’t even officially running yet.

Yes, it appears that Hillary Clinton could be the next Democratic contender for the presidency, despite giving no official indications that she intends to run. A recent study from Quinnipiac University shows that Clinton could easily get 65% of Democratic voters on her side, and that’s before she’s even begun campaigning — or announced her desire to run.

While good news for Clinton and anyone disappointed she didn’t make the Democratic cut last time around, this news could prove a bit daunting for other potential Democratic contenders. Clinton has managed to accrue more than a 50-point lead over her possible competitors.

Vice President Joe Biden, who’s indicated a possible interest in running come 2016, only managed to eke out 13% of votes — and he’s a fan favorite in his own right. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo crawls into third with 4% of votes. Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, Senator Mark Warner, and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick would barely get 1% of the available votes.

So if Clinton decides that she wants to run for president, it doesn’t seem like she’ll have much difficulty getting the Democratic vote. But what if she shocks everyone and decides against the long and arduous campaign? Would that open up the field, leading to a cutthroat race between potential contenders? Not really; if Clinton chooses not to run, Biden becomes the uncontested frontrunner with approximately 45% of the vote. Cuomo would once again end up in third, this time with a respectable 15%. The other candidates would still eke out less than 10% each.

Even Henry Kissinger, former secretary of state for President Nixon and staunch conservative, believes that Clinton will at least make a grab for the presidency come 2016. At the Atlantic Council Dinner where Clinton accepted an award, Kissinger joked about how four Secretaries of State had gone on to be President, and that Clinton was well aware of that legacy.

Clinton, as she has been doing for some time, demurred from directly engaging the suggestion. While she has not admitted to a plan for the White House, neither has rejected the notion that she could become America’s first female president. Ever the consummate politician, she has deflected questions and comments about her political intentions ever since her resignation as Secretary of State last year.

“When I became Secretary of State, I spent a lot of time thinking about my illustrious predecessors,” she said at the dinner. “Not primarily the ones who went on to become president.” Seeing as we have three years before the next election, Clinton might want to keep the public in suspense before announcing her intentions. After all, by refusing to confirm or deny the rumors, she’s keeping interest in her potential (at this point theoretical) campaign running strong. And she hasn’t even had to attend a single rally.

So it seems like the American population (at least the Democratic portion) has decided that Hillary Clinton will be running for president in 2016. However, there was a similar sentiment during the 2008 election — and similar poll numbers. And Barack Obama walked away with both the Democratic nomination and ultimately the Presidency. In the game of politics there is no such thing as a "sure bet" — and Clinton definitely plays to win.

CAIR Gloats Over GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann’s Decision Not To Seek Re-Election…

    Via The Hill:

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) — the conservative firebrand and Tea Party favorite who was briefly a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination — announced Wednesday that she would not seek reelection to Congress in 2014.

Bachmann, who has long been a target of Democrats and faced a difficult reelection next year, compared herself to a president limited to eight years of office in a statement explaining her decision.

“After a great deal of thought and deliberation, I have decided next year I will not seek a fifth congressional term,” Bachmann said in a video message on her campaign website. “I am confident that this is the right decision.”

No, Michele is the real deal and one of the strongest contenders with Conservatives not only in 2014 but beyond.

The Left know this and have deliberately attacked her like Palin, trashing her and her family on every front in their politics of personal destruction to dissolve her political career. This is probably part of an ongoing effort to "clearing the field" for more Socialists like Hillary to take the reins in 2016.

Meanwhile, you can't get the MSMedia to give any coverage to all the in your face scandals that came from the previous Clinton and now Obama Administrations.

They went after Bush relentlessly, they gave him no quarter on any nominees he wanted. They beat the anti-war drums and played up every casualties of the Iraq and Afghan war every single weekend on ABC and others. In contrast, the morality rate went up many times more under Obama but the MSMedia was totally silent.

The hypocrisy is unbelievable and shows just how far left MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, etc. really are.

If these were Republican Administrations committing these scandals the MSMedia would make sure everyone's head was on a stick in headlines in front of the public. This would go on for however long it took until they were captured and put in chains for all to see.

Then they would personally make sure the public's mind would never forget, at every election cycle, the Republican Party is... "The most corrupt Party in American History"!

With Michele Bachmann out of congressional race, Democrat gives up too

WASHINGTON -- With Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann opting against a reelection bid, the Democrat who nearly unseated her last November and was gunning for her again is now out of the race too.

Jim Graves, a St. Cloud businessman, told the local website MinnPost that with the polarizing conservative choosing not to run -- perhaps out of fear she might lose -- his feeling was “mission accomplished.”

“She wasn’t representing the people of the 6th District appropriately, and now she won’t be representing them. There’s no way anyone could run and win who would be worse than Michele Bachmann. So we accomplished that task,” he said.

That’s a turnaround from Wednesday, when he told the Los Angeles Times in an interview that he still intended to run. “It’s a very winnable race against anybody,” he said then. “We weren’t really running against Michele Bachmann as much as we were running for the people in the district and the country. And we’re going to continue that same approach.”

Minnesota’s 6th District is the most Republican of the state’s eight congressional districts, but Graves came within just 4,200 votes of defeating Bachmann last November. Political handicappers viewed her exit as good news for the Republicans because a new candidate would run without the same baggage.

Graves said Wednesday that he thought a wide-open Republican primary, though, would lead candidates to run hard to the right, leaving an opening for him with moderate Republicans and independent voters.

He told MinnPost Thursday night that his decision now to drop out was shaped by conversations with family and friends, and the realization that support from national Democrats and liberal groups would be less likely without Bachmann.

“I was just the guy who was running against her,” he said. “I’m humble enough to realize that.”
An official announcement from Graves was to come later Friday.

Winning Republican-leaning seats like the Minnesota 6th is a necessity, though, if Democrats are to pick up the 17 seats needed to win back control of the House of Representatives. In part because of a redistricting process that favored the GOP in most states, there are few Republicans sitting in centrist or Democratic-leaning seats for the party to target.

Cavuto cuts off Bachmann on executive orders

‘Rome’s burning, and you’re filing lawsuits’
    U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.

Fox News show host Neil Cavuto hit his stride, including a little bit of heat and rhetoric, as he blasted Republicans for a lawsuit announced on Wednesday by House Speaker John Boehner that alleges President Obama is acting outside of the law with his executive orders.

At one point he cut off U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., mid-sentence, to go to a commercial break.

The action is against Obama over his profligate use of executive orders, actions that many in Congress have described as illegal.

Boehner said he would be launching the court case against the president over his use of executive orders to change the nation’s laws regarding immigration, Obamacare, minimum wages and more – all without any action from Congress.

Bachmann had agreed to come on the program to answer questions about the move, which she said she had sought a long time ago already.

She explained, “The Constitution is a stop sign for the president, as it is for the Congress, as it is for the Supreme Court.”

But Cavuto was having none of it, talking over the congresswoman.

“We spend too much time … We need to fix whatever is wrong,” he said. “Seems to me there’s so much wrong here, [with Congress saying], ‘We’re going to drag your ass to court.’”

“Criminy,” said Bachmann. “Give me a second and I will tell you.

“I don’t know why John Boehner’s filing this now. I called for this going back to the State of the Union. Why he’s doing it now, I don’t know,” she said.

Cavuto continued pushing hard for instant responses.

“Where was your rage when Democrats were going after President Bush [over] executive orders?” he demanded. “This is a waste of time.”

“Rome’s burning, and you’re filing [lawsuits],” he said.

After cutting off Bachmann, he returned to the screen and apologized for getting “a little heated.”

“Looks like I just cut off the congresswoman,” he said.

But he said he wouldn’t apologize for his “sentiment,” or the fact that “we are wasting time filing lawsuits past one another.”

“I’m looking around and seeing Rome burning, and I think someone should pick up a hose and put out the fire,” he said.

“When there’s conflicts … between the legislative branch and the administrative branch, it’s, in my view, our responsibility to stand up for this institution,” Boehner said of Congress on Wednesday.

“This is not about impeachment, this is about his faithfully executing the laws of this country.”

Boehner continued, “The Constitution makes it clear that the president’s job is to faithfully execute the law. In my view, the president has not faithfully executed the law.”

Obama since his move into the Oval Office has frequently used executive orders to change laws he doesn’t like. Probably the biggest example is Obamacare, where Obama has a multitude of times simply issued an order changing something in the law, without going through Congress.

He’s granted exemptions from requirements, changed the dates on legal timelines and more.

He also used his peremptory “pen” and “telephone” privileges to simply drop a requirement in the law that recipients of some kinds of federal aid work, and he’s ordered Border Patrol agents to ignore the federal law regarding some illegal immigration.

Just days ago he arbitrarily ordered the Department of Labor to extend family leave to same-sex couples. And a short time earlier, he mandated that the minimum wage for federal contractors be raised, and deportations of many illegal aliens be halted.

Earlier, Boehner spokesman Michael Steel explained the issue. “The president has a clear record of ignoring the American people’s elected representatives and exceeding his constitutional authority, which has dangerous implications for both our system of government and our economy. The House has passed legislation to address this, but it has gone nowhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate, so we are examining other options.”

Obama repeatedly has refused to negotiate with members of the House over political issues, issuing demands that it must be his way. Then he’s complained that the GOP leadership in the House isn’t cooperating with him.

Obama’s executive orders earlier rose to the level that his threat to Congress that “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone” was reviewed by the Congressional Research Service.

The agency’s report said executive orders are accepted generally as part of a president’s authority, but they are not in the Constitution, and there are limits.
