    Default The good old days

Back when I was a kid my cousin and I used to mix potassium nitrate (salt peter) +sulfer+charcoal for homemade bottle rockets. As I recall we tried different amounts of each compound which at the time you could purchase at the local pharmacy. The results varied from bright sparkling shiners to small pops. seems we never could get the desired loud bang we searched for, still it made for good summer fun.

Fun fact: You can still get potassium nitrate. It is sold as stump remover at Lowes and Home Depot.

I purchased some in my quest to make homemade smoke grenades. That's a topic I need to delve into further at a later time as I am at a slight impasse in construction and could use some ideas.

Peterle, you truly have the mind of a hillbilly!

I suspect the pharmacist in Claremore Oklahoma had a pretty good idea what my cousin and myself were up to.
