War could hit North America this century: expert

By Ian MacLeod, Postmedia News June 12, 2011

OTTAWA — The 21st century could see war on North American soil, says the author of Canada’s national security policy.

Driven by technology and by shifting geopolitics, the good fortune that exempted Canada and the United States from military battles on the home front in the 20th century could be dramatically shattered over the next 90 years, Irvin Studin predicts in an essay in this week’s international affairs magazine Global Brief.

What’s more, the U.S., “might very well raise the threshold beyond which it would be willing to directly defend or intervene to defend Canada in the event of attack. The U.S. of this new century — for better or worse — will let many sleeping dogs lie.”

Studin is with the University of Toronto’s School of Public Policy and Governance and a former Privy Council Office staffer who co-authored Canada’s 2004 national security policy. He also is founding editor-in-chief and publisher of Global Brief and globalbrief.ca.

He believes failure to strengthen Canada’s demographic, economic, military and diplomatic capabilities in the coming years “could well result over the course of this less ‘lucky’ century, in a Canada that is a strategic cripple,” unable to advance its own interests, assert sovereignty or determine its own destiny.

Such reforms, however, now seem remote. North America’s leaders “do not even conceive of conflict at home because they do not and cannot believe it to be part of the realm of reasonable strategic futures.”

His 2,800-word commentary cites three key drivers that will jinx North America’s 20th-century fortunes. Technology will be first, he says.

It “will not permit the prospect of a serious country going to war with a North American power without having the means to attack it with some effect on its own soil,” he says.

Even secondary or regional powers such as Iran, Turkey, North Korea, Brazil, Pakistan and Venezuela will possess the technical means to directly and even regularly strike North America by intercontinental missile, air power, offshore bombardment or infantry by the middle of this century, he believes.

Second, foreign ships, private and military alike, will begin sailing through the Northwest Passage and Arctic waters within a decade or two.

“The new-century ‘great game’ — right at the continent’s edge — will, over time, assuredly introduce a new strategic consciousness into the decision-making of North America’s political class; a consciousness — and, before long, a new strategic culture — enabled by a popular paranoia about foreign interests promiscuously penetrating the continent’s theretofore near-perfect territorial sovereignty.”

Third, while the U.S. will remain the pre-eminent strategic power until about 2050, “the return of reasonable strategic parity of effective capabilities among other non-American, historic great powers — China, Russia and even Europe — poses both psychic and very practical consequences for North American strategic culture and doctrine.”

For the U.S., “a more acute sense of susceptibility to material retaliation on the home front from a serious foe might lower the inclination — or increase the threshold — for certain types of military adventure or extroversion.”

For Canada, diminished American power and increased American vulnerability to attack should “destabilize the long-held, implicit strategic assumption that the American superpower — theretofore unrivalled — will almost certainly defend the northern part of the continent should Canada come under attack.

“A U.S. more preoccupied with serious retaliation or even pre-emption by an enemy on the home front will demand far greater seriousness of performance from Canada in respect of investments in strategic capabilities.

It will threaten to ‘do the job’ for Canada if such investments are not made.

“However, because of diminished relative power, and given countless competing strategic imperatives and seductions, such American threats will not always be credible or carried out.”

    Companion Thread:

Here's a snippet from Viktor Suvurov's book The Story of the Spetsnaz, chapter 15 on Spetsnaz:

    Chapter 15
    Spetsnaz's First World War

    ~snip~

I do not know how or when World War Three will start.

I do not know exactly how the Soviet high command plans to make use of spetsnaz in that war.

The first world war in which spetsnaz will be a major contributor.

I do not wish to predict the future. In this chapter I shall describe how spetsnaz will be used at the beginning of that war as I imagine it.

It is not my task to describe what will happen. But I can describe what might happen. * * *

The last month of peace, as in other wars, has an almost palpable air of crisis about it. Incidents, accidents, small disasters add to the tension. Two trains collide on a railway bridge in Cologne because the signalling system is out of order. The bridge is seriously damaged and there can be no traffic over it for the next two months.

In the port of Rotterdam a Polish supertanker bursts into flames. Because of an error by the captain the tanker is far too close to the oil storage tanks on the shore, and the burning oil spreads around the harbour. For two weeks fire brigades summoned from practically the whole country fight an heroic battle with the flames. The port suffers tremendous losses. The fire appears to have spread at a quite incredible speed, and some experts are of the opinion that the Polish tanker was not the only cause of the fire, that the fire broke out simultaneously in many places.

In the Panama Canal the Varna, a Bulgarian freighter loaded with heavy containers, rams the lock gates by mistake. Experts reckoned that the ship should have remained afloat, but for some reason she sinks there and then. To reopen the canal could well take many months. The Bulgarian government sends its apologies and declares itself ready to pay for all the work involved.

In Washington, as the President's helicopter is taking off, several shots are fired at it from sniper's rifles. The helicopter is only slightly damaged and the crew succeed in bringing it down again safely. No one in the craft is hurt. Responsibility for the attack is claimed by a previously unknown organisation calling itself 'Revenge for Vietnam'.

There is a terrorist explosion at Vienna airport.

A group of unidentified men attack the territory of the British military base in Cyprus with mortars.

A serious accident takes place on the most important oil pipeline in Alaska. The pumping stations break down and the flow of oil falls to a trickle.

In West Germany there are several unsuccessful attempts on the lives of American generals.

In the North Sea the biggest of the British oil rigs tips over and sinks. The precise reason for this is not established, although experts believe that corrosion of main supports is the culprit.

In the United States an epidemic of some unidentified disease breaks out and spreads rapidly. It seems to affect port areas particularly, such as San Francisco, Boston, Charleston, Seattle, Norfolk and Philadelphia.

There are explosions practically every day in Paris. The main targets are the government districts, communication centres and military headquarters. At the same time terrible forest fires are raging in the South of France.

All these operations and others like them are known officially in the GRU as the 'preparatory period', and unofficially as the 'overture'. The overture is a series of large and small operations the purpose of which is, before actual military operations begin, to weaken the enemy's morale, create an atmosphere of general suspicion, fear and uncertainty, and divert the attention of the enemy's armies and police forces to a huge number of different targets, each of which may be the object of the next attack.

The overture is carried by agents of the secret services of the Soviet satellite countries and by mercenaries recruited by intermediaries. The principal method employed at this stage is 'grey terror', that is, a kind of terror which is not conducted in the name of the Soviet Union. The Soviet secret services do not at this stage leave their visiting cards, or leave other people's cards. The terror is carried out in the name of already existing extremist groups not connected in any way with the Soviet Union, or in the name of fictitious organisations.

The GRU reckons that in this period its operations should be regarded as natural disasters, actions by forces beyond human control, mistakes committed by people, or as terrorist acts by organisations not connected with the Soviet Union.

The terrorist acts carried out in the course of the 'overture' require very few people, very few weapons and little equipment. In some cases all that may be needed is one man who has as a weapon nothing more than a screwdriver, a box of matches or a glass ampoule. Some of the operations can have catastrophic consequences. For example, an epidemic of an infectious disease at seven of the most important naval bases in the West could have the effect of halving the combined naval might of the Soviet Union's enemies.

The 'overture' could last from several weeks to several months, gradually gathering force and embracing fresh regions. At the same time the GUSM would become involved. Photographs compromising a NATO chief appear on the front pages of Western newspapers. A scandal explodes. It appears that some of the NATO people have been having meetings with high-ranking Soviet diplomats and handing over top secret papers. All efforts to refute the story only fuel the fire. The public demands the immediate dismissal of NATO'S chiefs and a detailed enquiry. Fresh details about the affair are published in the papers and the scandal increases in scope. At that moment the KGB and GRU can take out and dust off a tremendous quantity of material and put it into circulation. The main victims now are the people whom the Soviets had tried to recruit but failed. Now carefully edited and annotated materials get into the hands of the press.

Soviet Intelligence has tried to recruit thousands, even tens of thousands, of people in its time. They include young lieutenants who have now become generals and third secretaries who have now become ambassadors. All of them rejected Soviet efforts to recruit them, and now Soviet Intelligence avenges their refusal. The number of scandalous affairs increases. The nations discover to their surprise that there are very few people to be trusted. The Soviet intelligence service has nothing to lose if the press gets hold of material showing that it tried to recruit a French general, without saying how the attempt ended. It has even less to lose on the eve of war. That is why the newspapers are full of demands for investigations and reports of resignations, dismissals and suicides. The best way of killing a general is to kill him with his own hands.

There is a marked increase in the strength of the peace movement. In many countries there are continual demands to make the country neutral and not to support American foreign policy, which has been discredited. At this point the 'grey terror' gathers scope and strength and in the last days of peace reaches its peak.

From the first moment of the first day of war the main forces of spetsnaz go into action. From then on the terror is conducted in the name of the Soviet Union and of the Communist leadership: 'red terror'.

But between the 'grey' and the 'red' terror there may be an intermediate period — the 'pink' terror, when active military operations have not yet begun and there is still peace, but when some of the best spetsnaz units have already gone into action. The situation is complicated by the fact that, on the one hand, Soviet fighting units are already in battle, but that, on the other hand, they are not yet operating in the name of the Soviet Union. This is an exceptionally risky moment for the Soviet high command. But he who risks nothing gains nothing. The Soviet commanders want to gain a great deal, and so are ready to risk a lot.

A great deal has of course been done to reduce the level of risk. Only a relatively small number of spetsnaz troops take part in the 'pink' terror, but they are the best people in spetsnaz — professional athletes of Olympic class. Everything has been done to make sure that not one of them should fall into the hands of the enemy before the outbreak of war.

A great deal has also been done to ensure that, if one of them should fall into enemy hands at that moment, it would be very difficult to establish his connection with any country whatsoever.

The 'pink' terror may continue for no more than a few hours. But those are the most important hours and minutes — the very last hours and minutes of peace. It is very important that those hours and minutes should be spoilt for the enemy and used for the maximum advantage to the Soviet side. It must be pointed out that the 'pink' terror may not be carried out at all. It is used only when there is absolute certainty of the success of the operations and equal certainty that the enemy will not be able in the remaining hours and minutes to assess the situation correctly and strike the first pre-emptive blow. * * *

For Soviet Communists the month of August has a special significance. It was in August that the First World War began, which resulted in revolutions in Russia, Germany and Hungary.

In August 1939 Georgi Zhukov succeeded in doing something that no one before him had managed to do: with a sudden blow he routed a group of Japanese forces in the Far East. It is possible that that blow had very far-reaching consequences: Japan decided against attacking the Soviet Union and chose to advance in other directions.

Also in August 1939 a pact was signed in the Kremlin which opened the flood gates for the Second World War, as a result of which the USSR became a super-power.

In August 1945 the Soviet Union carried out a treacherous attack on Japan and Manchuria. In the course of three weeks of intensive operations huge territories roughly equal in area and population to Eastern Europe were 'liberated'.

In August 1961 the Soviet Union built the Berlin Wall, in violation of international agreements it had signed.

In August 1968 the Soviet Army 'liberated' Czechoslovakia and, to its great surprise, did not meet with any opposition from the West. Suppose the Soviet Communists again choose August for starting a war.... * * *

(It should be pointed out that September 11th on the Russian Julian calendar falls at the end of August.)

This was written before the end of the Cold War, around 1985 or 86 I think. I have a recollection of reading this some time in the distant past. Do you think it is relevant today? I'm curious? Vector? Ryan?

    All good questions.

I saw this posted elsewhere and searched this forum to place it where Viktor Suvurov's material was but couldn't find it anywhere.

What I found interesting was a limted number of Spetsnaz training and leading foreign terrorists to cripple US infrastructure. This reminded me of other defectors warnings.

The main victims now are the people whom the Soviets had tried to recruit but failed. Now carefully edited and annotated materials get into the hands of the press.
The same people in the press who've been recruited from our socialist colleges and have personal hero's like Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky.

Couple that with our socialist and progressive politicians doing the same thing along with years of corruption allowing the espionage of America's national security secrets.

The infiltration is probably far beyond what most fear.

The Axis need their useful idiots to start their Marxist revolutionary plans in subverting America's sovereignty and begin mowing the grass exceedingly low so behind the remaining blades lies an empty firearm or a dead fighting aged citizen.

We are well into the Final Phase.

The infiltration isn't more than we know... lol It's a lot more than anyone will ADMIT.

I'm arguing on facebook with my own sister, and high school friends who are so against Romney because they've bought into the "he did horrible things" to people line, and they are still screaming for his tax returns.

When I pointed out the names and laws broken by some of Obama's own cabinet, especially the tax evaders my sister had the AUDACITY to DELETE the entire POST!

She didn't just the truth, she nuked the entire set of posts because she couldn't control the argument. Another has jumped into one of my wife's threads when she posted the same sort of thing - she posted "Romney's taxes? What about Obama's tax evaders" and some other stuff like that. And it's getting worse and will before the election.

America is doomed - and like Backstop I now admit it. He's gone but not forgotten and he was right about that. But no one can save us if Obama remains in office.

Romney wasn't my first choice - and he's the only thing we've got, we're STUCK with him, until someone else better comes along (Paul Ryan strikes a chord here)... the Soviet Union never died, the Bear simply went into Hibernation for a few years. Khrushchev was right, they are going to bury us and they did it from within - with the help of Americans.

I see a purge coming in this country, and I am saddened to say this but it will likely those of us who use the board. If it comes to Civil War this time there won't be any President strong enough to stop it. Lincoln and Reagan are dead and gone and there is NO ONE with their ability to make the people see the facts in front of their faces.

I'm ashamed that this country has gone to hell under someone like Obama - but you know what? America deserves what she votes into office. I won't look back except to try to save some of my children and grandchildren. Other than that, I'm done here.

If this country is invaded we will be exterminated one by one until there are nothing left but the "Loyal Progressives" who will become instant "People Communist Party members".

We're fucked if Romney loses - and we're still fucked if he wins, just later down the road. It's going to take a MASSIVE turn around in this country of training and education to prevent the next generations from being born into a Communist country.

    The Gathering Red Storm

Published on Wednesday, 30 January 2013 06:51 Written by Terresa Monroe-Hamilton

It’s difficult to not look at world events these days and feel as though we are sitting on a ticking time bomb. Things are heating up even more and the clock is now at about 30 seconds to midnight.

One wonders where all this will lead… Well, if the current course is kept, straight into hell, probably. That is by design and has been planned on for a very long time.

    From Trevor Loudon:

If it comes to war, one joint Russia/China plan is for Russia to nuke the hell out of the continental United States. After Obama has finished decimating what is left of the US nuclear arsenal of course. The Russians will then invade Alaska and parts of Canada, but not the lower ’48. China will then invade across the Pacific. They will lose millions of troublesome young men, but they eventually get a foothold. Then their allies in Latin America will invade across the Mexican border… and the Red Dawn will break.
You can count North Korea in that mix as well. It has always been the plan of the Russians to use Iran as a proxy army to take control of the Middle East and the energy resources at play. But would any of them really come after the US?

The answer to that question is a definitive ‘yes.’ Being separated from most of our enemies by an ocean gives us the illusion of safety, but that should have been shattered after 9-11. However, America’s apathy runs deep these days and most people fell back to sleep or into an encompassing lethargy when a would-be dictator started trashing the Constitution and our God given rights. While we tear ourselves apart as a nation, our enemies are salivating, awaiting the right opportunity to strike.

I contend that Obama is setting us up for just such an attack. And as Trevor Loudon astutely points out, it will most likely come from several enemies at once. With a depleted nuclear arsenal and a massively weakened military, the hour is drawing nigh that an attack will be forthcoming. Think about it… if you were our powerful enemies, what would you do? You would attack of course when your enemy is at their weakest financially and militarily – like right about now. Consider this scenario:

    • North Korea launches 2 or 3 EMPs over the United States with no warning, or so little that we have no time to take evasive measures.
    • Russia invades Alaska and parts of Canada.
    • China launches an attack via the Pacific Ocean with millions of soldiers. The sheer numbers alone would overwhelm our current defenses.
    • Iran, Venezuela and Cuba attack from the South. With a fully open border and with no guard there whatsoever, hordes of terrorists would slash their way through with absolutely no pity or remorse for the bloody trail of bodies left behind.

Now consider if these all happen at once. Not possible, you say? Why not? Both Russia and China have been busy building their military forces up, while we have been scaling radically down in that arena. Iran now has nuclear capability as does North Korea. Aside from the energy resources in the Middle East, what would be the biggest prize ever? Bringing down America, invading her and conquering a once free nation. All our enemies need to do is team up, pillage and plunder, then divide the spoils of war. See Sun Tzu. It would be the ultimate redistribution of wealth.

If that is not enough to haunt your dreams, consider this… What if Progressives made deals for themselves with our enemies while betraying our closest ally? For land, resources, slaves, security, power… No? Then tell me why we are being so cozy with the Chinese, or the Muslim Brotherhood, or the Russians for that matter.

With Obama’s reelection, he can be much more flexible. Why is Obama deliberately bankrupting our nation?

And why is money massively being withdrawn from our banks? It seems to me that Obama and the Communists are really close in their goals for this country. Just this last week, CPUSA was cheering Obama on gun restrictions.

Remember, Communism as articulated in the various Communist documents, asserts that nobody owns anything – that the group owns everything. But because in practice that doesn’t work, an elite self-appointed overclass takes control and endeavors to enforce the ideals of Communism on the proletariat. Thus, implementing in practice a form of fascism, nominally called “Communism.” The Muslim creeds implement an unabashed fascism from the beginning. So our enemies all have fascism in common. Even those regimes that are nominally Communist, wind up implementing fascism because completely decentralized control doesn’t work when there is no ownership. You see, our enemies have a lot in common ideology wise and they all want the United States’ land and resources.

So, while our Progressives have been calling for the end of the Constitution, the Chinese have been busy buying up billions in real estate here in the US. They are now buying up our utilities and natural resources as well. They are buying up major companies such as battery makers as well. This is just Communist foreplay. The problem with the US is that we are an instant gratification society. Long range planning for us is what is for dinner tonight. Long range planning for our enemies is the demise and conquest of America.

We hear very little in the media about what is facing us militarily. Even Pravda sees more clearly what is going on in the States than many Americans do. As the gathering red storm advances on America, will we react in time to save ourselves?

When the EMPs fly, it’s a little too late to rally the troops to our defense.

    • North Korea launches 2 or 3 EMPs over the United States with no warning, or so little that we have no time to take evasive measures.

I skipped a briefing a couple of days ago - was one of those that had a high classification that was discussing certain countries and their ability with missiles, nukes etc. Wish I'd gone, but I wasn't really in the mood to have my week ruined.

All I know is we are preparing for something..... it's in the air, the tension, it's everywhere. I don't know what's up for sure and to be honest... I am not sure I wanna know.

I wonder if you map some of the areas they're buying you don't begin to see regional preplanned invasion routes moving toward the center of the country.

Laying down supply lines, resources and communities along your invasion routes before you hostilely enter a nation would be extremely important during a sustained occupation.

North Korea video shows city resembling New York under missile attack

    By Agence France-Presse
    Tuesday, February 5, 2013 6:40 EST

North Korea, poised to conduct a nuclear test any day now, has posted a video on YouTube depicting a US city resembling New York engulfed in flames after an apparent missile attack.

The footage was uploaded Saturday by the North’s official website, Uriminzokkiri, which distributes news and propaganda from the state media.

The video is shot as a dream sequence, with a young man seeing himself on board a North Korean space shuttle launched into orbit by the same type of rocket Pyongyang successfully tested in December.

As the shuttle circles the globe — to the tune of “We Are the World” — the video zooms in on countries below, including a joyfully re-unified Korea.

In contrast, the focus then switches to a city — shrouded in the US flag — under apparent missile attack with its skyscrapers, including what appears to be the Empire State Building, either on fire or in ruins.

“Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing,” runs the caption across the screen.

“It seems that the nest of wickedness is ablaze with the fire started by itself,” it added.

The video ends with the young man concluding that his dream will “surely come true”.

“Despite all kinds of attempts by imperialists to isolate and crush us… never will anyone be able to stop the people marching toward a final victory,” it said.

The North is expected to conduct its nuclear test as a defiant response to UN sanctions imposed after its December rocket launch.

NORTH Korea has poached Michael Jackson's peace anthem We Are the World to soundtrack a chilling video showing a US city under missile attack.

The bizarre footage, uploaded on the secretive state's official webpage, comes as Kim Jong-un prepares for an "imminent" nuclear weapon test.

The propaganda movie depicts a smiling lad dreaming of a regime rocket being launched into the air and travelling to America.

The three-and-a-half minute vid then shows a mystery city full of skyscrapers being attacked with multiple explosions, while the Stars and Stripes flag flutters in the background.

Captions on the screen written in Korean say: "Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing.

We Are the World was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie in 1985 and recorded as a charity single by USA for Africa.

It sold more than 20million copies and topped charts throughout the world.

What is that? A space shuttle dropping the bomb on America? From Space? Isn't that, like against international law or something? I mean you're not supposed to put nukes in space or anything and if it's illegal how can they do that?

You know... I'm skeered. I want to know I'm safe when I sleep at night. Maybe we should throw away all those evil bombs and things and no one will ever bother us again!

Alert: Colonel Says U.S. on Verge of War

    By Andrew W. Griffin
    The Norman Transcript
    February 9, 2013

NORMAN — Mincing no words, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson said, “We’re going to war.”

And that war, Wilkerson told a group at the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday, will be with Iran. At least that is the current path the nation is on as long as we refuse to engage in serious diplomatic exchanges with that powerful Islamic republic.

“The president has said it is unacceptable that Iran have a nuclear capability. He has said all options are on the table. That includes the military option. He has said he is pursuing the diplomatic track, and that is true. But the diplomatic track is sanctions. Sanctions. Sanctions, pure and simple.”

And sanctions, Wilkerson said, won’t work in the long run.

“If we’re not willing to negotiate, where does that leave us? It leaves us with bombing … we’re going to go to war. We’re going to drop bombs, and those bombs aren’t going to do anything but force the Iranian people to be more cohesive and force them to support their draconian government and force them to make a decision about making a nuclear weapon. They’ll go underground and they’ll do it.”

And if that is the path that is taken, he predicts they will do it in two to five years.

Wilkerson, a vocal critic of the corporate takeover of the government and wars that are waged to line the pockets of Big Oil and others, spoke to the group at a luncheon as part of a lecture series on U.S./Iran relations that is being hosted by the University of Oklahoma’s College of International Studies and the OU Iranian Studies Program.

Wilkerson, who served as U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell’s chief of staff during the first George W. Bush administration, was the man who infamously provided Powell with the information that he presented to the United Nations Security Council in 2003 that ultimately led to the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Wilkerson has since renounced his role in that debacle and has since been speaking and lecturing about the plutocrats and “military industrial congressional complex” that has taken over U.S. government and led to the recent wars this nation has been engaged in, much of them based on a need to control energy supplies.

“I’m not opposed to oil and I’m not opposed to gas and I’m not opposed to energy,” Wilkerson said. “But I am opposed to young Americans having to die for ill-advised actions that essentially are designed to do something about that, that could be done economically, financially, diplomatically, politically or otherwise and not with boots on the ground and not with boys and girls dying.”

Wilkerson asked rhetorically and who is doing the dying. Less than 1 percent of the population. And with the recent approval of women serving in the front lines, Wilkerson explained that the real reason is not an interest in “egalitarian instincts,” it is that the armed forces “can’t recruit enough men.”

As a result, the armed forces are strained to the limit and the top brass are looking at all options to keep warm bodies in their ranks as long as the U.S. government continues to engage our military in foreign wars — as we are with the ongoing “War on Terror.”

He said “women make the best soldiers.” Women come in way ahead of men on every level.

“But is that the way the country should be going? For those reasons?” he said.

The U.S. military is worn out, he said, and without a draft, their ranks will continue to be stretched to the limit.

“Thirteen years of war,” he said, “War that in most soldiers’, sailors’, Marines’ and Airmen’s eyes has led to almost no success ….” he said. “It will give you post-traumatic stress disorder. It will push suicide rates in the Army and Marine Corps to historical levels — levels we’ve never seen before.”

And now with the prospect of an attack on Iran, morale will likely worsen and the casualties will likely be far worse than what was witnessed during the Iraq War of 2003-2011.

Wilkerson said our interference and meddling with Iran goes as far back as 1953 when the CIA, led by Kermit Roosevelt Jr., and the British MI6, led a coup — Operation Ajax — to depose the democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, thereby installing the “tyrannical” Shah, who was a dictator but brought stability to the region.

“One could argue forever if that was a good bargain,” Wilkerson quipped.

And since those days, U.S. relations have been strained and, at the present, are at an all-time low as that nation threatens to build up a nuclear program.

And while prior wars, Wilkerson said, had more to do with control of energy production than an actual threat to the U.S., the situation in Iran has to do with protecting our ally Israel, “hegemony in the region” and what nation will we support in that region — Saudi Arabia? Iran “and the mad mullahs”? or Israel?

Ultimately, the reasons for our concern about Iran are mixed, he said.

“It has nothing to do with a nuclear weapon,” he said. “It’s all about power. It’s all about power in the Gulf” and keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Quoting foreign policy experts who have said that a war on Iran would be “catastrophic,” Wilkerson said with a dark tone of sarcasm, “If you liked Iraq, you’ll love Iran.”

    By Paul McGuire

Friday February 15, 2013 a meteor ripped through the sky in central Russia sending fireballs crashing to earth. Fragments of the meteor smashed into the Chelyabinsk region, in the Ural Mountains injuring over 1,000 people. Later that same night, San Francisco Bay stargazers in America saw the blue flash of a meteor which caused a loud sonic boom as it fell, breaking apart and spreading meteorites in the North Bay. In many ways this disaster resembled a nuclear attack…a possibility for which Russia is better prepared than we are.

Friday February 15, 2013 two Russian nuclear-armed bombers circled the Western Pacific Island of Guam, equipped with nuclear-tipped missiles. The two Russian Tu-95 Bear-H strategic bombers were followed by U.S. jets that had scrambled from Andersen Air Force Base on Guam. The event occurred just hours before President Barack Obama’s state of the union address.

Military analysts said the bomber incident was highly unusual and believe Moscow was sending a strategic message to Washington. The bombers flew over a thousand miles from the Russian Far East and according to Defense officials they were likely equipped with six Kh-55 or Kh-55SM cruise missiles that can hit targets up to 1,800 miles away with either a high-explosive warhead or a 200-kiloton nuclear warhead. In contrast, the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was 13-kiloton.

Military analysts say that Guam plays a strategic role in the Pentagon’s defense strategy designed to counter China’s precision guided missiles, submarines and anti-satellite weapons designed to prevent the U.S. from defending its allies or keeping sea lanes open. As such Guam is a key target for China and North Korea.

There are growing tensions between China and Japan and the U.S has committed to defending Japan. The Russian bomber flight seems to be a signal of its intentions to support China in any conflict. North Korea’s third underground nuclear weapons test also seems to be part of sending a coordinated signal to the U.S.

However, the U.S. appears to be ignoring the signal that Russia has been sending for decades. Vladimir Putin said “For Russia to feel secure and for our partners to listen carefully to what our country has to say, Moscow must spend about $775 billion by 2022 for new armaments and a more professional military.” At the same time the United States is disarming its nuclear arsenal, as I said in my NewsWithViews.com article of October 29, 2012 entitled “The Day Russia Attacks the United States.”

For decades Russia has been building up a vast network of underground bunkers and nuclear blast shelters. Some military experts believe that Russia is secretly preparing for World War III. Other intelligence experts are speculating that Russia may be planning a future attack on the United States. The Russians have been storing grain and other foodstuffs, gold, and oil and diesel fuel. Russian underground bunkers can store 326 million tons of grain, and their military can store up another 80 million tons of grain.

What if Russia does attack the United States with nuclear weapons and mushroom clouds erupt over major U.S. cities? Are we ready? In addition to military analysis, the Prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 38 talks about the War of Gog and Magog which many students of Biblical prophecy believe refers to Russia leading a coalition of forces along with Iran in a military invasion of Israel.

The invader, apparently Russia, is clearly identified in Ezekiel 38 as a military superpower.

However, although some scholars believe that the United States is referenced in Bible prophecy, if it is, it is not clear. There are some scholars who believe that America is Babylon. But most scholars do not see the United States mentioned clearly in Bible prophecy and the question is “why?” As I have explained in my 3-DVD series “Are You Ready?” America may simply merge into the coming one world government that seems to be approaching quickly. However, some scholars suggest, with ominous overtones, that America is not mentioned in the prophecy because it will no longer exist.

Russia has enough nuclear fire power to destroy the United States. Their nuclear submarines keep popping up in our coastal waters and their nuclear armed Navy has bases in both Cuba and Venezuela. Simultaneously, the U.S. is disarming. What if America experiences a crisis, such as a terrorist attack, asteroid impact, EMP attack, or financial collapse? Would Russia, knowing it has overwhelming nuclear power, attack the United States with nuclear weapons?

I don’t know about you, but I think it is time to stop living in denial and do a lot of soul searching. In ancient Israel they used to have watchmen who climbed into towers to keep a look out for the enemy. Today the watchmen appear to be our military analysts and intelligence experts. That is because America as a whole does not seem to believe in God anymore. But, although some would disagree with me, I don’t believe the Biblical role of the watchman is over. I think that a small number of watchmen have been faithfully blowing the trumpet. But the leaders of secular society and even many of the church leaders make every attempt to marginalize these watchmen.

What if suddenly a rainstorm of Russian nuclear missiles was fired into our cities and, from the West Coast to East Coast, America began to burn with a nuclear fire? Today “fire and brimstone” preachers are mocked by some of the mega-church celebrity preachers.

But Russia doesn’t laugh and Moscow never sleeps.

    From Russia with love!

Barack Obama in flames in new North Korea video

North Korea has published another inflammatory propaganda video - this time showing US President Barack Obama and American soldiers in flames.

    10:26PM GMT 19 Feb 2013

Just weeks on since the country published a video depicting a US city resembling New York engulfed in flames after an apparent missile attack, Pyongyang has now released a new clip including scenes supposed to show President Obama on fire.

The video also shows US soldiers engulfed in flames and seemingly ends with a reference to North Korea's recent nuclear test.

"North Korea has succeeded in proceeding with this nuclear test despite the United States’ increasingly unfair bully activities against North Korea," some of the clip's captions read, according to North Korea news.

Hosted by a website known to distribute state sponsored video, other captions on the clip attack the US for having no respect for others, or for equality and ends by stating, "the people are watching. America should answer."

According to US news site Global Post, the soundtrack to the video comes from the Elder Scrolls Oblivion, a video game.
