Former neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman is back on patrol -- and this time it's at a gun store.
Police found Zimmerman sitting in his dark colored truck outside of Pompano Pat's, a store that sells firearms and motorcycles, just after midnight on Sunday, according to a DeLand, Florida police report.
Zimmerman, who police said was "very cooperative," explained to the responding officer that he had the owner's permission to be on the property and was patrolling it since there had been a recent burglary.

He provided officers with a phone number for Pat Johnson, the owner of the business who is also running for mayor in DeLand. Officers were unable to make contact with Johnson.
According to the report, Zimmerman told officers that Johnson had asked him to leave his dog inside the business, however Zimmerman decided he and his dog would wait in the parking lot.
He also told officers that "he was going to be around the business at night for an indeterminate amount of time," the report said.
Sam Porter, an employee of Pompano Pat's, told ABC News today that Zimmerman is not an employee and is not being paid to patrol the business.”
“George is a really nice guy and really tries to help folks out," Porter said. "I felt he was trying to do something nice."
Pompano Pat's had offered Zimmerman a free gun after he was acquitted of murder last year.
Zimmerman maintained self defense when he shot and killed an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin, in Sanford, Florida on Feb. 26, 2012.

Report: Justice Department May Shutdown Zimmerman Civil Rights Investigation . . . quietly

    1, October 3, 2014 by jonathanturley

When the Obama Administration sent in a team to investigate civil rights violations in the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, some of us expressed doubt over the basis for such a charge as well as the timing of the federal move into the case. Indeed, I was highly skeptical of how the case was charged and prosecuted. Now the Washington Post is reporting that, after two years of investigation, Justice officials do not believe that they have sufficient evidence to bring federal charges.
George Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in a state trial in Sanford, Fla., last year. Various community and political leaders demanded that Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. bring a federal civil rights case against him. The protests led to considerable pressure for the Obama Administration to act and the investigation by the Civil Rights Section helped quell some of the discontent over the verdict. However, the case remained weak for both a second-degree murder case as well as a civil rights charge. While many read racist motivations behind Zimmerman motives, Zimmerman succeeded in establishing that he was acting in self-defense.
The Administration has also taken the same quick response to the shooting in Ferguson, though that investigation is centering on the police department as a whole.

DOJ: No Federal charges against George Zimmerman (as there should not have been).

    Took them long enough, huh?

Why is that idiot still living in the same neighborhood?

At the least he should have either moved further south in Florida or better still Arizona or Texas and changed his name.

Zimmerman really is an idiot to stay in Florida. He needs to move somewhere far away and petition for a name change.

I want to know about the guy that shot at him. This is NOT the first time he's had a run in with the guy.

    What's happening here?

    Yeah, the shooter needs Doxxed.

He might have some kind of love interest angle or "black lives matter" angle. I listened to the prior 911 tape. The shooter called the cops and said Zimmerman threatened him. It's easy to get threatened...just harass someone. There's more to this story beyond Zimmerman clearly being an idiot.

Saturday: The Opening of the Museum of Trayvon Martin: A Meeting before Labor

    Feb. 11

When I spoke to artist Malcolm Peacock last year in advance of his experiential/participatory artwork "Let the Sun Set on You," he reflected on the many ways in which the deaths of Black people affect history and spark movements, memorials, solidarity.

Reflecting on his research for that piece, he said: "It was interesting how history affects death, and how death affects history, depending on who dies, depending on what dies, what will determine how it's spoken about."

In this new work, Peacock continues to grapple with death and violence, this time looking at Trayvon Martin, whose death (and the acquittal of his killer) spawned the Black Lives Matter movement. With objects from 18 artists and contributors, this exhibition explores "different ways of perceiving and handling the realities of projections and inflictions of violence upon Black bodies and lives."

The opening reception features three parts (parts one and two in the gallery, where visitors will be given more information; the third part is located at 1225 N. Calvert St.).

The event description also states that non-Black people who wish to attend must arrive and be present with a Black person. Opening reception 7-10 p.m., exhibition up through March 4, Terrault Contemporary, 218 W. Saratoga St., 3rd floor, terraultcontemporary.com, free.

The Opening of the Museum of Trayvon Martin:
