    Basic Information

    Incident Type: Wildfire
    Cause: Lightning On Private Land
Date of Origin: Saturday June 09th, 2012 approx. 05:54 AM
Location: appx. 15 miles west of Fort Collins

    Current Situation

    Total Personnel: 2,037
    Size: 83,205 acres
    Percent Contained: 45%
Estimated Containment Date: Monday July 30th, 2012 approx. 12:00 AM
Fuels Involved: 10 Timber (litter and understory) Grass, Brush and Timber
Fire Behavior: Observed aggressive flanking fire down slope and into the wind on the SW part of the fire with upslope/upvalley winds. Single and group tree torching with short duration crown runs as fuels continued to respond to warmer and drier conditions. Rollout and active backing continued along the Poudre Canyon from the north now. Moderate fire activity noted on the north half of the fire.
Significant Events: The incoming IMT1 (Lund) shadowed RMA IMT1 (Hahnenberg) today and will assume command at 2000 hours today. Continued with line construction, improvement, and structure protection in the slopover area north of the Poudre Canyon. A radio telemetry helicopter has arrived on the incident. It will be utilized to locate residual heat in the unburned islands in the interior of the fire, to allow focused operations to protect homes in the interior of the burn. The fire backed and spread actively in the southwest corner of the fire. Actions included structure protection, holding, and burnout operations as the fire progressed to the W and SW. A Red Flag Warning is in effect through 2200 hours today, and another Red Flag Warning has been issued for Monday 6/25/2012 from 1100 to 2100 hours.

    Outlook

Planned Actions: Planned actions for tomorrow include: Continue with structure protection, reinforcement, and burnout actions as necessary for the fire area North of the Poudre Canyon; Utilize radio telemetry data to focus structure protection, control, and mop-up efforts in the interior of the burn area; Continue with previous structure protection, reinforcement, holding, and mop-up operations on the remainder of the fire, to protect structures and maintain existing control lines.
    Growth Potential: Extreme
    Terrain Difficulty: High
Remarks: Efforts continue to identify and document damaged structures and outbuilding. Any future increase in reported numbers will be made once official notifications and announcements are made by local authorities.

No, and local news is reporting NOTHING on this, and local authorities, with the exception of a few of the cops I know will not comment. I think they are trying to keep what they know a secret.

When the fire out by Elbert County started yesterday, 50 miles out from the Springs, with no sign of a reason for it to start though, a LOT of people I know got damned suspicious.

I told them they should have been suspicious already... but oh well.

No, no leads I'm aware about or nothing on the perps.

Another fire. Fountain Colorado. The news is making a "plea" to the viewers locally that if anyone knows "how the fire started to get in touch with authorities".

    They are "not sure".

Ok, yesterday Trout Creek fire was "started" across the highway from the other burn.

Today, there is one called "Fountain Creek" which is south a bit and along I-25 and the Fire Chief is calling it "highly suspicious".

Yeah, Ryan, I'm with you on the Shoot on Sight.

So, I count three more fires INTENTIONALLY set since yesterday. This is now an "on-going arson investigation" and they are saying it loud now. This is the reason they won't release ANY data to the public.

Multiple Colorado Fires Prompt 'Area Command Team' Activation

    By Nathan Heffel

With hundreds of thousands of acres burning across Colorado, the US Forest Service has activated its rarely used Area Command Team to manage the fires and their Incident Management Teams.

There are only 3 Area Command Teams around the US.– and According to Bill Gabbert, who publishes wildfiretoday.com, activating a team happens when there is a shortage of firefighting resources or agencies are overwhelmed.
An ACTeam does not directly manage fires or other types of incidents, but they supervise IM Teams assigned to individual fires, or they can oversee the management of a very large incident that has multiple IMTeams engaged.
The Area Commander is Bob Anderson, and his team will be based out of the Front Range Area Command near Golden. The last time Team 2 was activated was during the 2008 Six Rivers/Kalamath Fire in California.

One of the goals of the Area Command is to oversee the distribution of limited resources between multiple fires.

Two Type 1 Incident Management Teams are currently working the High Park fire west of Fort Collins and the Waldo fire west of Colorado Springs.
More information on both fires can be found here.

Denver, CO (KUSA) - There are seven active fires burning in Colorado as of Monday morning, and it is hard to keep all the fires straight if you are not in the immediate area. SoKUSA, a KSDK affiliate in Colorado, created this comprehensive list to help.
Below are the largest fires in the state that are causing either evacuations or threatening homes.

    CR 102 FIRE:
The containment of the CR 102 Fire in Elbert County was changed around midnight on Monday from 100 percent contained to 75 percent contained. The fire has burned 300 acres and caused 100 people to be evacuated. The CR 102 Fire broke out Sunday afternoon. Find out more details here.

    HIGH PARK FIRE:
The High Park Fire is now 83,205 acres with only 45 percent containment. The fire started on June 9 around 6 a.m. and is burning approximately 15 miles west of Fort Collins. More than 2,000 personnel are fighting the blaze. On June 11, authorities confirmed 62-year-old Linda Steadman died from the blaze. Search crews found Steadman's remains at her house on Old Flowers Road. Authorities say Steadman received two notification calls. A deputy was on his way to personally warn her, but he was pushed back by flames. Larimer County officials confirm that 57 additional homes burned, bringing the total number of homes destroyed in the High Park Fire to at least 248. The cause of this fire is lightning.Find out more details here.

    LITTLE SAND FIRE:
The Little Sand Fire is now 21,616 acres with only 31 percent containment. The fire started on May 13 around 4 p.m. and is burning approximately 13 miles northwest of Pagosa Springs. Nearly 200 personnel are fighting the blaze. No structures have burned or threatening in this blaze. The cause of this fire is lightning. Find out more details here.

    STATELINE FIRE:
The Stateline Fire grew to 350 acres and is at 50 percent containment. The fire started on June 23 and is burning near the Colorado-New Mexico line along U.S. Highway 550. About 140 personnel are fighting the blaze. One outbuilding was destroyed in the fire, but no other homes are threatened. It is burning in a very remote area. The fire is considered to be human caused, but there are no suspects at this time. An information line is now available at 970-799-1179.

    TREASURE FIRE:

The Treasure Fire is burning 320 acres with only 10 percent containment. The fire started on June 23 at 10:30 a.m. and is burning east of Leadville. More than 60 personnel are fighting the blaze. No structures have burned in this blaze. The cause of this fire is unknown at this time. Find out more details here.

    WALDO CANYON FIRE:
The Waldo Canyon Fire is now 3,446 acres with zero percent containment. The fire started on June 23 around noon and is burning in Pike National Forest. About 450 personnel are fighting the blaze. Colorado wildfires move toward US Air Force Academy (+videos)

Colorado wildfires: Winds fanned the flames of the Waldo Canyon wildfire in the direction of the US Air Force Academy. The Colorado Springs Academy shut down hiking trails west of the school. There are six major Colorado wildfires burning now.

By Keith Coffman, Reuters / June 25, 2012

    Colorado Springs, Colo.

An out-of-control wildfire near some of Colorado's most visited tourist sites expanded overnight, keeping some 6,000 people from their homes on Monday, and forecasts said winds could push the flames toward the United States Air Force Academy.
    Related stories

On Monday morning, the Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs, about 80 miles south of Denver, continued to burn near the base of Pikes Peak, whose vistas helped inspire the patriotic tune "America the Beautiful."

The fire had prompted the evacuation of 11,000 people on Sunday but residents of the town of Manitou Springs, often used as a base for visits to Pikes Peak, had been allowed home, leaving 6,000 people still displaced.

IN PICTURES: Wildfires sweep the West

The fire was raging about six to 10 miles from the Air Force Academy as winds fanned the flames in its direction, and fire authorities listed the academy as being threatened by the blaze along with utilities, flood control structures and watershed.

A recreation area belonging to the Academy was ordered evacuated due to its proximity to the fire, and all trails leading west of the school were closed as a precaution, the base said on Monday.

But the blaze would still have to traverse rough terrain, burning down through steep canyons and up mountain ridges, before it would reach the Air Force Academy itself, Academy spokesman Meade Warthen said.

"We don't have any reason at this particular point to think were going to be inundated, but we're standing by," Warthen said. "There are contingency plans in place. If we need to implement them, we will."

The Department of Homeland Security said it was providing the Federal Emergenchy Management Agency financial assistance to help battle the Waldo Canyon and other fires, noting the blaze's threat to 250 homes in the area.

On Sunday, El Paso County spokesman Dave Rose said the fire was burning two miles from the base of Pikes Peak, billed as the most visited mountain in North America.

The Waldo Canyon blaze came as firefighting resources were stretched by the monster High Park blaze northwest of Fort Collins, a university city north of Denver along the state's tinder-dry Front Range.

The High Park Fire - the second-largest on record in the state and its most destructive - has consumed 83,205 acres in steep canyons since it was sparked by lightning two weeks ago. It is blamed for the death of a 62-year-old grandmother in her mountain cabin and has destroyed 248 homes.

An estimated 4,300 people remain evacuated from their homes as that fire burns through grass, brush and Ponderosa pine.

In southwestern Colorado, the Weber Fire grew to 8,300 acres overnight but firefighters held it about one mile southeast of the small town of Mancos, east of Mesa Verde National Park.

Between 40 to 50 homes were evacuated and residents of Mancos were on evacuation warning, fire information officer Mary Huels said.

A dozen fires in total are burning across Colorado, with high temperatures projected to top 100 degrees again on Monday expected to cause "extreme" fire behavior, officials said. The fires were all under an acre and put out quickly.

All the fires are under investigation and are considered "suspicious".
