Who knows how many times they did it.
I don't think that is what happened. I've been in a lot of planes. Been in an F16. The plane DUMPED almost all it's fuel just before it hit the apartment.

Takes a bit of time to open the tanks... they also attempted to climb it sounds like away from a school in their path and were headed for the ocean.

So, I don't think this was a "stunt gone wrong".

But the flight recorder will tell the tale later.

Wonder why we don't just makes the whole plane out of the stuff they make the black boxes out of?

He certainly was in control until the last second.

Pilots don't go down with their planes if they don't have to, but they WILL if they can stop it from flying into a hospital, school or grocery store.

I was witness to an F-105 going down in Oklahoma many years ago, and the first one on the scene because the plane hit only a few hundred yards from me and friend where we were fishing at a farm pond.

The planes (there were three of them) that had been flying all day doing what are called "Touch and Gos".. touching down, lifting back off at the end of the runway and doing a few circles then starting over. A National Guard plane.

They had a "Flameout" on the engine. The engine, for whatever reason stopped working - actually made a "screaming" sound then went "WOOF" as it went out. They were at about 1200 feet and climbing. The pilot ejected as the plane reached the top of it's curve (1200-1300 feet) and he blew the canopy, hitting the plane on the way out. He was in the chair when it hit the ground only a 100 feet or so from the fireball.

We were already running toward the plane.

We go there and pulled the pilot out of his seat and helped him out of the area - the ground was on fire and there were secondary explosions going on.

The plane was demolished and the fire was bloody HOT.

So engines fail, equipment fails and sometimes people fail.....
