    Default Memorial Day Thank You

I can't believe I remembered to put up my flags but forgot to start a thread here to mark Memorial Day.

So here it is... Thank you to all service members past and present. Without your service, no matter how seemingly minor, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms we have.

And instead of putting up Obama's speech today, I'm posting the Memorial Day speech from a real leader.

Many thanks again this year for all who have dedicated to ensure our freedoms. That we are perishing in the mission is not the fault of those now past, but the dumbing of our people to a point the majority allow a tyranny reign. The time will come when our mission prevails. Thank you all who serve(d).

I was just reminded of this.

In remembrance of our fallen Australian and New Zealand brothers...

A big thanks especially to the Australians who have stood by us in every major conflict.

I know this is exceedingly late but this is the first time I've been online today.

So, a slightly delayed thank you to our armed forces and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A bump for Memorial Day 2015.

A huge debt of gratitude to all those who have served and especially to those who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

    Thank you.

It is difficult to thank a person who is dead and gone. Remembering them is the best way.

In 1953 Troy B. Donaldson, USMC, HOW CO., 3RD BATTALION, 1ST DIVISION fought against a Chinese Invasion in the South Korean Peninsula.

I don't know the details of the battle except those Dad told me about. He survived the battle, but many didn't.

Dad passed recently at 76 years old, and would never explain the exact circumstances of 2 purple hearts or of a silver star. I only got a cursory glance at the paper work back in the 1970s after mom passed away of cancer. Dad went on to live 30+ years, but today I remember him.

Another yearly bump in somber remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf.

When I was a very young man... ok, a boy, I used to play army with the other kids in the school grounds in Kentucky. One of them, whose name is no longer remembered, lost his father in Vietnam. I remember him telling us the story on recess one afternoon.

The soldier was a Green Beret (according to the kid telling the story) and was in a fire fight while coming back from some mission. They were ambushed and some men were killed. Some lived.

They fought until the last Viet Cong was killed, and three of them carried out the bodies of the other men a few at a time. I don't recall the numbers, but there were 20 or so men involved.

There wasn't a dry eye sitting under the trees on that hillside in Kentucky that afternoon.

But we continued to play army and war throughout the rest of that spring. And we did with thoughts of that kid's father dying in a jungle a long, long way from us.

I don't know that Soldier's name, but thank you.

It's that time of year again to give a humble prayer of thanks and remember the fallen who have given their lives in defense of this nation and our freedom.

If you are able, save them a place inside you,
And save one backward glance when you are leaving,
for the places they can no longer go.

Be not ashamed to say you loved them,
though you may, or may not have always.
Take what they have left, and what they have
taught you with their dying, and keep it as your own.

And in that time that when men decide, and feel safe,
to call the war insane, take one moment,
to embrace these gentle heroes you left behind
