Formal Charges Filed Against Teen In Rape Of Anderson Woman, 93

Police announced formal charges against a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the July rape of a 93-year-old Anderson woman.

According to Anderson Police Chief Larry Crenshaw, the suspect lived closed to the victim. Crenshaw said police collected DNA samples from several people and connected the suspect to the crime through a DNA match.

Charges against Iquise V. Taylor include rape, burglary, criminal confinement and strangulation police announced during a news conference Monday. He’s been charged as an adult.

Crenshaw called it a “horrific and unimaginable attack” and said the department was satisfied to bring some kind of closure to Amelia Rudolf and her family. He said he’d met with Rudolf and told her the department would “bring justice in this life or the next.”

Crenshaw said the teen lived close to the victim but didn’t know if Rudolf was specifically targeted.

The victim’s daughter described her mother as “brave” and “strong” and described her as a hero.

“The fact that the Anderson Police Department caught the criminal (that) he will be off the streets… that’s one less criminal because of her surviving and enduring that,” said Tresa Hale. “He won’t be able to hurt anyone else.”

Hale said the teenage suspect would eventually face punishment for the crime.

“Judgment Day will come for him,” she said. “I know in my heart that if he lived life in prison that it will be terrifying for him.”

Amelia Rudolf also spoke.

“If it wasn’t for the police department, I don’t know what I would’ve done,” she said. “I didn’t think I’d live long enough to see who did it.”

Rudolf also said she wondered about the suspect’s upbringing.

“I was just wondering how he was brought up…if his parents had taught him to do right,” she said.

The woman acknowledged that going back to the home where she was attacked will be difficult.

“I would like to go back because it’s the house my husband built and I’ve been happy there,” she said. “I don’t know if I can go back there (after the attack). They tell me to take my time.”

Rudolf said she’s “happy that they found” the suspect and added that she gets her strength from her family.

Allegedly Unprovoked Assault Of 71-Year-Old New Haven Man Leads To Multiple Charges

Police arrested a 35-year-old New Haven man on gun and other charges after an allegedly unprovoked attack on a 71-year-old man.

Jorge DelaPaz was arrested on charges of assault in the third degree of an elderly person, carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a pistol and interfering with police.

The elder New Haven man was eating a hamburger in the Goffe Street Park following a Toni Harp mayoral campaign-sponsored event Sunday afternoon when he was approached by DelaPaz, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, according to a police report.

Police say DelaPaz told the elder white male that he shouldn’t be “in his park where young black kids are playing.” When the older man refused an order from DelaPaz to pick up a football, DelaPaz punched the man multiple times in the face, knocking him to the ground, police said.

DelaPaz told police he was in the park throwing a football around with some children when he saw the man eating a hamburger and watching children play, according to a police report. He claimed that the 71-year-old man acted belligerently and began to hit him after he confronted him about watching children in the park, according to the report. DelaPaz said he hit back in self-defense, according to the police report.

Police spoke with a witness, who said that he saw two men outside looking like they were ready to fight, according to the report.

The witness said he or she attempted to intervene but could not stop the fight. DelaPaz then allegedly said he was going to get a gun. Another witness reported seeing DelaPaz hit the 71-year-old man.

DelaPaz fled the scene on foot when police arrived around 3:40 p.m. He allegedly resisted arrest and hurt an officer’s leg in the process, police said, Officer Robert Hayden pulled out his Taser and yelled “Taser” several times before DelaPaz stopped resisting.

DelaPaz gave several false names to police, including “Jesus De Cristo,” police said. Police at the department’s detention center determined DelaPaz had given a false name and that he was a convicted felon who does not have a valid pistol permit.

Police found a Sig Sauer P239 handgun, a magazine clip containing five hollow point 9mm rounds, two 9mm ball rounds, a set of brass knuckles and two voter registration cards that were filled out and signed within DelaPaz’s backpack, according to police. DelaPaz also has a pending case stemming from a July 16 arrest. He was charged with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, as well as several drug charges.

Slain WWII Vet Delbert 'Shorty' Belton Buried With Military Honors

Delbert Belton, the 88-year-old World War II veteran beaten to death in an apparent robbery in Washington state last week, has been given a military burial, a send-off attended by hundreds who paid their respects to the man known as "Shorty."

Belton, born on Dec. 21, 1924, in Sunnyside, Wash., earned his nickname as a young man, when he stood just 5'5". He worked as a jockey and cut and sold cords of firewood before joining the Army in 1943, during the Second World War, according to the eulogy given for him.

Belton served in the 102nd Infantry as a military policeman and a sharpshooter, seeing action in the Pacific Theater, including Okinawa. He worked for an aluminum company for 30 years and enjoyed dancing, fixing cars and watching wrestling.

Belton was beaten to death outside an Eagles Lodge in Spokane on Aug. 21, and two young men have been arrested in connection with his death. Demetruis L. Glenn and Kenan Adams-Kinard, both 16, are charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

Three other juvenile boys were also arrested and charged with helping the young men evade the police, authorities said.

Belton's killing touched a nerve across the country, as many expressed outrage at the senseless beating death of a elderly veteran.

Hundreds of people, including many service members, attended his burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane.

“Shorty was part of our common life, and his death brings a sense of loss, and the unconscionable manner of his loss brings feelings of pathos and anger, as well," the Rev. Homer Todd said in a eulogy, describing Belton as “short but full of vim and vinegar."

“For many there is a profound sense of unfinished agenda," Todd told the mourners.

A soloist sang "We'll Meet Again," noting that Belton had likely danced to the song.

As the services came to a close, a military honor guard fired shots to honor his passing.

Officials said the teens charged with Belton's death would be tried as adults.

Police: 2 Women Gang Raped By Juveniles In Wilmington Park

Neighbors near Kosciuszko Park in Wilmington expressed anger and outrage Friday, after learning the details of a brutal gang-rape that happened in the park Thursday.

Police say two women, ages 32 and 24, were reportedly attacked and sexually assaulted by a group of 10 to 12 black male juveniles in Kosciuszko Park at about 6:54 p.m. Thursday. According to police, the suspects, who range in age from 12 to 17-years-old, remain on the loose.

The victims were transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment.

Wilmington police increased patrols Friday in the park which is located in the 600 block of South Franklin Street in the Hedgeville Community.

The women were released from the hospital Friday, but as of Friday night, police had no suspects and no witnesses.

“The new criminal we’re seeing, they’re bold, they’re brazen, and they have a total disregard for life,” said Maria Cabrera, city councilwoman-at-large in Wilmington.

Neighbors who live near the park gathered with reporters, politicians, and police for a small rally Friday against crime and in show of support of the victims.

“This is a good neighborhood, and I lived around here for a year,” said Baseer Powell, who had come to walk through the park. “I’m surprised this happened, but its on these kids’ parents to raise them right.”

His wife Sharee said in light of today’s events, there will be no more family visits to the park.

“Who told you that it was ok to mistreat women to this magnitude? And what do you need from society so that you can make better choices,” said Wilmington Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey-Walker, whose district includes the park. “There’s no easing someone’s mind when you have young people committing these types of crimes.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Wilmington Police Department.




Clarksville, Tennessee Police Searching For Clues In Downtown Rape

Clarksville police are looking for two men who allegedly raped a young woman while she was walking home Tuesday night near downtown.

The 18-year-old woman was walking near South First Street and Washington Street when police say the two men pulled her into Kline Alley and attacked her about 9 p.m.

"One of the suspects held her down while the other sexually assaulted her," said Clarksville police spokeswoman Natalie Hall.

Police say the victim had been talking on her cell phone with a friend when she noticed she was being followed.

"Her friend told her to go back to her residence, which is close to this area," Hall said.

After the attack, the victim started running back home, where a neighbor saw her and said her shirt had been torn off and her pants were ripped.

He called 911.

Police responded quickly, in part, because they were close-by.

"We live here next to the jail and share a property line with the police station only 500 yards from where the action was," said neighbor Stricia Lack.

Police used a K-9 team to try and find the men, but they had left the area.

"I won't be on the street by myself. I'll let my neighbors know what happened," Lack said.

Investigators say the suspects are described as black men, one is about 6'3" with short hair and gold caps in his teeth, and is estimated to be in his early 30s. The other is short and stocky, with shoulder-length dreadlocks and a Fu Manchu moustache.

Police Looking For Three Men In Brutal French Quarter Beating Of Couple

A couple searching for their car in the French Quarter early one morning were beaten by a group of men in an apparent act of random violence, and police on Tuesday were asking for the public's help in finding the three attackers.

Police said the couple was near the intersection of Iberville and Dauphine streets about 6 a.m. Saturday when they were approached by three men. The suspects began to verbally harass the couple, police said, and then proceeded to physically assault both of them.

The woman was punched in the mouth, police said, and her male companion was struck several times by the group. The man was beaten so badly that his jaw broke, requiring him to be hospitalized and undergo surgery, police said.

Surveillance footage taken from nearby the assault caught the three suspects on tape and police are asking any with any information on the attack to come forward.

Eighth District detective Michael Flores is in charge of the investigation.

Teen Arrested In Assault Of Elderly Woman Outside Of Church

An 82-year-old woman went home Thursday after spending two weeks first in the hospital, and then in rehab.

She was discharged hours after 18-year-old Michael Duku of the North Side was taken into custody on charges including robbery, assault and conspiracy.

Police say Duku and another man shoved the elderly woman to the sidewalk two weeks ago after she attended Sunday church services in Homestead. Duku ran off with her purse.

Rev. Robert Buczak of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, where the woman has been a long-time member of the congregation, said he paid several visits to the woman since she was assaulted.

Buczak told KDKA-TV’s Ralph Iannotti that she’s in good spirits, adding, “She suffered a broken shoulder, broken orbital bones in her face and a big cut above her eye. She’ll be in a sling for six to eight weeks now.”

Buczak said the woman forgives the robbers who attacked her, and then he said he felt “they would have gotten more in church, than they got out of her purse.”

Duku was identified by an eyewitness who recognized his mug shot. He was picked up by a constable.

Homestead Mayor Betty Esper said she was relieved to hear that at least one suspect has been arrested.

“You don’t want any church to feel that [parishioners] can come out of Sunday services after praying and they are afraid, you just don’t want that,” Esper said.

Duku is being held on $75,000 bond.

3 Teens Charged With Murder In Des Moines Man's Beating

Three 18-year-olds have been charged with murder in a beating attack that police said reflected a “mob mentality” and left a Des Moines man dead.

Yarvon Nathaniel Russell, James Alon Shorter and Kent Anthony Tyler III, all of Des Moines, were charged Friday with first-degree murder.

Russell and Shorter were arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. A warrant has been issued for Tyler’s arrest. He was still at large as of Friday night.

The three are accused of killing Richard Daughenbaugh, 40, who was found severely beaten in a parking lot near the Center Street bridge around 1 a.m. Sunday. He died from his injuries at a local hospital.

The homicide apparently stemmed from a verbal altercation between Daughenbaugh and one of the men arrested, though Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax declined to say which one.

The argument was two-sided. The physical altercation was not, police said.

At some point one of the suspects attacked Daughenbaugh, authorities said. The other two — and police believe several others — joined in.

“The phrase ‘mob mentality’ is probably accurate here,” Halifax said. “Once the assault began, acquaintances of the suspect jumped in.”

Investigators didn’t find a motive other than the argument. Police recovered Daughenbaugh’s wallet and determined the event wasn’t a robbery gone bad.

The suspects allegedly beat Daughenbaugh using no weapons other than their own bodies while others in the group tried to stop anyone from helping, police said.

A woman fishing nearby tried to step in and stop the assault and was struck, police said. Her companion was attacked as he jumped in to defend her.

And when the woman tried to call 911, two women from the group allegedly grabbed her phone and threw it. She eventually retrieved it and called 911.

Le’Prese Derrion Williams, 21, was charged with willful injury in the assault.

Shanayia Dianne Hamer, 23, and Franreca Delores Woods, 19, both of Des Moines, were charged with first-degree theft for grabbing the phone.

Police believe several dozen people were gathered in the parking lot and watched the attack. Investigators suspect there are three or four others who participated and are working to develop additional evidence.

“We feel there are probably more, and if we can file charges, we will,” Halifax said.

Investigators haven’t determined what Daughenbaugh was doing in the area that night, and they aren’t sure why such a large crowd gathered.

“It doesn’t appear as though he went there looking for a fight. And the group didn’t gather looking for a fight either,” Halifax said.

The homicide was more a crime of opportunity than a random killing, authorities said. The suspects didn’t pick a target at random to attack. But it was still unusual for Des Moines, where most homicides are between people who know each other.

Larry Bradshaw, the president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, said he still feels safe being out at night.

“But it is cause for concern,” he said. “It probably does give you a little more cause to try to walk where there are people, make sure to be on lighted streets.”

The neighborhood group gets monthly crime reports from Des Moines police, and Bradshaw said the group usually hears the area is safe.

“Most crimes that happen, people know each other or it’s a bar fight, things like that,” he said. “This is definitely out of the ordinary.”

Authorities have found no connection between Daughenbaugh and anyone else involved. And police don’t usually see this many people involved in a single homicide.

But police could at least applaud an unusual aspect of the crime.

“We don’t typically see the uninvolved stepping in to try to stop things either,” Halifax said.

NYPD: Man Brain-Dead Following Random Rampage In Union Square

Witness: Suspect Vowed To Attack 'Next White Person Who Walks By'

It came out of nowhere.

A man allegedly went on a rampage in Union Square on Wednesday afternoon and left a complete stranger brain-dead in the process.

Police said that the attack may have been a hate crime.

Friends of Jeffrey Babbitt, 62, were shocked to hear about the random act of violence that left the gentle, retired train conductor in a coma, CBS 2′s Dave Carlin reported on Friday.

“I don’t believe that. I don’t know why that happened. He is very nice,” Igor Sapozhnikov said.

Babbitt was minding his own business as he walked through the crowd near the chess boards in Union Square when a man made a hateful announcement and began his rampage, witnesses said.

“He said ‘the next white person who walks by I’m going to [expletive],’” one woman said. “His fist went in and the man’s head bobbed and he hit the ground and you could hear his skull hitting the ground.”

The man continued his rampage before demanding to see police officers.

“He stood there and hit two more people and asked for the police to come,” Michael Benson said.

Stunned witnesses counted a total of three people attacked. The suspect, Lashawn Marten, 31, remained at the scene until police arrived.

Babbitt was on the ground with blood flowing from his head. Nearby were two other victims icing their faces.

Because of Marten’s alleged comments about targeting white people the incident could result in hate crime charges in addition to felony assault charges, according to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

“Obviously our Hate Crimes Task Force is involved in aspects of that case,” Kelly said.

Witnesses said they were amazed at the brazen, public nature of the assault.

“This is such a crowded area. You’d expect it in a back alley, but there are so many people here. That’s the strange part,” Garrett Browning said.

Babbitt was taken to Bellevue Hospital. Family and friends said that he is in a coma and has been declared brain-dead.

His 92-year-old mother, Hedda, was by his side. She shared a Sheepshead Bay apartment with her son. He was her primary caregiver.

Bus Rider’s Face Smashed In During ‘Hate Attack’

An attacker pummeled a bus passenger so hard he smashed the bones in his face after calling the victim a “cracker” in Manhattan – marking the second time in two days that people appeared to be randomly targeted in racial tirades against white people, authorities said.

In the latest incident, the suspect passed a 31-year-old rider on the M60 bus riding through Harlem, on West 127th Street, between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive, around 2:45 p.m., Friday, when he shouted the racial slur and punched the victim in the face, breaking his nose and eye socket, cops said.

The victim was treated for facial fractures at New York Presbyterian Hospital and released, police said.

The incident occurred as authorities reported that Jeffrey Babbitt, 62, fell into a coma after being punched and knocked to the ground in Union Square Park on Wednesday. He was taken off life support and died Monday, sources said.

In that case, a 31-year-old allegedly yelled that he was going to “f— up” the next white person he saw, before clocking Babbitt so hard that witnesses reported hearing his skull crack on the pavement.

Two people who tried to help the victim were also punched but refused medical attention at the scene, law enforcement sources said.

The assailant waited for police to arrest him and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the assault was being investigated as a hate crime.

The suspect in the Harlem attack is 5-foot-11, 185 pounds and is believed to be in his late 30s.

(CNN) -- A Georgia judge Thursday sentenced a teenager to life in prison without parole plus 105 years in the March shooting death of a 13-month-old boy.
De'Marquise Elkins was convicted in August of multiple charges, including felony murder, in the shooting death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago during a robbery.
Elkins was spared the death penalty because he was only 17 when the baby was shot.
Elkins also was convicted of aggravated assault and other charges for shooting a pastor during an earlier mugging. His mother, Karimah Elkins, has been convicted of tampering with evidence for her role in trying to cover up the child's shooting in Brunswick, about 75 miles south of Savannah.

Combat soldiers no match for black mob …

Police say three JBLM soldiers were walking along Pacific Highway SW, when five 6′ black men in a sedan-like car hurled racially motivated insults at the soldiers.



An active duty combat veteran is dead, a victim of black mob violence.


The soldier, who has yet to be identified, had been celebrating his safe return from combat and his imminent release from the military. He was walking to his hotel early Saturday morning near a Seattle area military base where KOMO-TV news picks up the story:


A group of men in a car drove by and someone inside shouted a racial comment toward the white soldiers, the Lakewood Police Department said.


“One of the soldiers yelled back something about the suspects treating combat soldiers with disrespect,” Lt. Chris Lawler said.


The vehicle turned around, and five black males got out of the car and confronted the soldiers, according to reports. As the verbal confrontation ensued, the driver of the vehicle realized the men were actually combat veterans and called his friends off.


While the men headed back to their vehicle, one of the suspects appeared to have bumped into the victim, witnesses say.


The soldiers saw their friend fall to the ground as the car sped away. The victim was bleeding profusely from a stab wound and died at the scene.


Police are searching for five black men who fled the scene in a midnight blue BMW-type sedan or VW Jetta-type car with four doors, tinted windows and stock rims and low profile tires, said KOMO.



The main suspect was wearing a hoodie.


Clint Zimmerman was with the soldier when he died. “I don’t understand how anyone could do this,” Zimmerman told KOMO. “He gave his life for people to enjoy the freedoms they have and he was stabbed for no **friggin’ reason. What was it all over: Just because they were some white boys?”


The murder is less of a mystery for people from the area. That part of town is predominately black. And “off limits” for white people day and night, say many local commenters to Tacoma news sites.


One woman, who calls herself Nanamamabjm, describes a recent violent crime against her family nearby: “We had an attempted break last weekend DESPITE a very large and another moderate-sized dog and my mom being home. Black dudes in hoodies I dare to say … but that is the reality of things. They were black, they were wearing gray hoodies. When my husband retires, we’re outta here.”


Many of the readers of the KOMO web site, as well as readers of the Seattle Times, were surprised the newspaper would break with their tradition and report the race of the suspects. Even so, some wondered why the Times would refer to the crime as “racially tinged confrontation” instead of a potential hate crime.


King 5, another Seattle TV news outlet, did not include a description of the alleged assailants. Nor did it include a quote from what the alleged killers reportedly said.


This is the second “racially tinged” stabbing death in the Seattle area in less than a month. In September, a black man stabbed a college professor in the neck and torso as he “tried to defend” his companion. Local press called it unprovoked and random.
It is also the second killing from black mob violence of a member of the armed services since July. Shaquille Hargrove, a 19-year old member of the U.S. Air Force, was shot during an outbreak of black mob violence outside of a Denver night club. Another airman was wounded, but he survived.


No one has yet been arrested for these crimes.

Police say three JBLM soldiers were walking along Pacific Highway SW, when five 6′ black men in a sedan-like car hurled racially motivated insults at the soldiers.



An active duty combat veteran is dead, a victim of black mob violence.


The soldier, who has yet to be identified, had been celebrating his safe return from combat and his imminent release from the military. He was walking to his hotel early Saturday morning near a Seattle area military base where KOMO-TV news picks up the story:


A group of men in a car drove by and someone inside shouted a racial comment toward the white soldiers, the Lakewood Police Department said.


“One of the soldiers yelled back something about the suspects treating combat soldiers with disrespect,” Lt. Chris Lawler said.


The vehicle turned around, and five black males got out of the car and confronted the soldiers, according to reports. As the verbal confrontation ensued, the driver of the vehicle realized the men were actually combat veterans and called his friends off.


While the men headed back to their vehicle, one of the suspects appeared to have bumped into the victim, witnesses say.


The soldiers saw their friend fall to the ground as the car sped away. The victim was bleeding profusely from a stab wound and died at the scene.


Police are searching for five black men who fled the scene in a midnight blue BMW-type sedan or VW Jetta-type car with four doors, tinted windows and stock rims and low profile tires, said KOMO.



The main suspect was wearing a hoodie.


Clint Zimmerman was with the soldier when he died. “I don’t understand how anyone could do this,” Zimmerman told KOMO. “He gave his life for people to enjoy the freedoms they have and he was stabbed for no **friggin’ reason. What was it all over: Just because they were some white boys?”


The murder is less of a mystery for people from the area. That part of town is predominately black. And “off limits” for white people day and night, say many local commenters to Tacoma news sites.


One woman, who calls herself Nanamamabjm, describes a recent violent crime against her family nearby: “We had an attempted break last weekend DESPITE a very large and another moderate-sized dog and my mom being home. Black dudes in hoodies I dare to say … but that is the reality of things. They were black, they were wearing gray hoodies. When my husband retires, we’re outta here.”


Many of the readers of the KOMO web site, as well as readers of the Seattle Times, were surprised the newspaper would break with their tradition and report the race of the suspects. Even so, some wondered why the Times would refer to the crime as “racially tinged confrontation” instead of a potential hate crime.


King 5, another Seattle TV news outlet, did not include a description of the alleged assailants. Nor did it include a quote from what the alleged killers reportedly said.


This is the second “racially tinged” stabbing death in the Seattle area in less than a month. In September, a black man stabbed a college professor in the neck and torso as he “tried to defend” his companion. Local press called it unprovoked and random.
It is also the second killing from black mob violence of a member of the armed services since July. Shaquille Hargrove, a 19-year old member of the U.S. Air Force, was shot during an outbreak of black mob violence outside of a Denver night club. Another airman was wounded, but he survived.


No one has yet been arrested for these crimes.

Three Soldiers Arrested For Weekend Stabbing Death

There is a small memorial of flowers and pictures on the sidewalk where soldier Tevin Geike was stabbed and killed early Saturday morning.

"We're all just trying to show our appreciation and our love for him," friend Amy Barnes said.

Authorities have arrested three soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in connection to Geike’s death. Jeremiah Hill, Cedarium Johnson, and Ajoni Runnion-Bareford were identified as the soldiers involved in the incident according to a military official.

Geike and several friends were walking early Saturday morning when they were confronted by a group of men, according to investigators. Police said one of the men pulled a knife and stabbed Geike.

The three suspects were booked after police found the suspect vehicle and evidence in the soldiers' barracks. Two other soldiers were reportedly cooperating with police and were not facing charges. Lakewood Police found what investigators believe is the murder weapon in a wooded area in Tillicum Monday afternoon.

"If you're in the Army you don't kill another one of your soldiers another one of your battle buddies," Geike’s friend Ramona Benningfield said.

A sergeant contacted Lakewood detectives Sunday with information about a suspect who had asked another soldier for first aid for a knife wound. According to the sergeant, the suspect reportedly told the soldier he had cut his hand while stabbing a man over the weekend.

However, when the sergeant confronted him, the suspect said he cut his hand while chopping vegetables. The suspect told a different story to hospital staff when he went to Madigan Hospital for treatment, claiming he injured his hand while cutting a parachute cord.

Officers also interviewed another soldier who admitted to being at the scene. The soldier said the stabbing took place early Saturday after he and four friends in a car had words with a group of men walking on Pacific Highway Southwest.

According to the soldier, the car stopped and the men got out but nothing happened once the parties realized everyone was active duty.

As they were walking back to the car, however, the soldier said it looked like the suspect gave the victim a "bear-hug" and pushed him to the ground. When the suspect returned to the car, the soldier said the victim was covered in blood and they discovered he had stabbed the victim.

A second soldier corroborated this account. The main suspect in the stabbing did not make a statement to police.

Geike, 20, was in a combat aviation unit. Specialist Brian Johnson, who was a friend of Geike's, compared the killing to an act of treason.

"You betrayed your country," Johnson said. "At some point you served your country and now you killed a man that was doing the same."

"Why would you stab your own brother in arms," asked Specialist Donald Tener. "You're supposed to have each other's back."

According to a statement released by a Joint Base Lewis-McChord spokesperson, the three men arrested in the murder were all members of the 3-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 7th Infantry Division.

Officers said that based on their interviews, the crime did not appear to be racially motivated.
