This will resolve quickly IF THIS IS TRUE.

WASHINGTON — The Navy Yard, located less than a mile south of the U.S. Capitol, was placed on lockdown Thursday following an unconfirmed report of an active shooter, WUSA reports.


There are no immediate report of casualties inside the 41-acre facility, which was the scene of a mass killing by a lone gunman in 2013.


Police source tells WUSA reporter Nikki Burdine that Navy security has reported two shooters, but there has been no official confirmation of any gunman siighted.


The U.S. Navy said on Twitter that a lockdown and shelter-in-place is in effect, but said no incident had yet been confirmed.

U.S. Park Police, U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security officers quickly responded to the scene and local roads were closed.
The Navy yard is located on the Anacostia River, south of the National Mall. The nearby U.S. Department of Transportation building was also placed on lockdown as a precaution.


Police are tightly controlling the flow of pedestrians and traffic at the Navy Yard Metro Station.
In 2013, a gunman shot who got into a building at the Navy Yard killed 12 people and injured three others. He was fatally shot by a Washington Metropolitan police officer.


The Washington Navy Yard is a ceremonial and administrative site for the U.S. Navy, located in Southeast Washington, D.C. The Yard also houses the Chief of Naval Operations and serves as the headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command, the Department of Naval History and several other naval facilities.


Established in 1799, the Yard is the oldest shore establishment for the U.S. Navy.

The Washington Navy Yard, scene of a deadly shooting rampage in 2013, went on lockdown early Thursday and Metro police blocked off local streets on reports that an "active shooter" might be on the base, the Navy and Metro police said.
"We're telling people to remain in place, the gates are closed," said Lt. Ryan Benitez, a Navy spokeswoman. She said Navy security and local law enforcement were responding to reports of the possibility of an "active shooter" at the Navy Yard in the southeastern section of Washington, D.C.
Alarms were sounding across the base to shelter in place as Metro and U.S. Park Service police, and U.S. Marshalls, rushed to join Navy security in a sweep of the 41-acre facility less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
In 2013, a gunman shot who got into a building at the Navy Yard killed 12 people and injured three others. He was fatally shot by a Washington Metropolitan police officer.
The alert followed on warnings from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI of the possibility of an ISIS directed or inspired terror attack in the U.S. over the July 4th weekend.

Hoax or someone took the shooter down immediately and they haven't confirmed it yet on purpose.

I'd assume they are keeping the facts out of the news because of the fact the news is RIGHT there.

I guess I'll stand down unless there's something else.

Actually, one more thing.

This group of people JUST went through an active shooter drill.

I'm betting MONEY someone was spooked today by something she saw and called in an incident which triggered this response.

Now, whether she was just trying to get out of work for the day or she honestly THOUGHT something was happening, I don't know.

I saw "she" because I just have this gut feeling about this incident.

Oh, this is rich...

"Two suspicious men were seen in this building this morning" which has triggered this massive response.

Several law makers, and some of the various agencies have been stating that there is likely to be an attack this weekend someplace on a soft target.

Those statements have all the management on edge everywhere, including where I work.

So - it appears someone triggered this. But there STILL could be a shooter or hostage taker on site and they are still trying to find him.

The facility has new cameras and there will be video if anything happened.

This person was present at the shooting the last time (2 years or so) and was "alerted to some loud noises".

Not so much a hoax, but likely a false alarm.

Police in Washington D.C. are on guard for an active shooter after reports that shots were fired in a Navy yard.

An official says that authorities at the Washington Navy Yard have found no evidence of a shooting, no one has been arrested, and no weapons have been found after a report of gunfire.


The official has been briefed on Thursday's response at the naval installation but spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to release the information publicly.


The official says authorities received an alert about a potential shooter Thursday morning at the Navy Yard, which triggered a large response in keeping with protocols established after a gunman killed 12 workers in a 2013 massacre.

WASHINGTON -- A lockdown is underway on the entire Washington Navy Yard campus after a report of shots fired.


A federal official says there were reports of shots fired Thursday morning in the same building where a gunman killed a dozen workers in a rampage two years ago. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the official wasn't authorized to discuss details publicly, says there are no reports of injuries nor has a shooter been identified.


A police and fire department presence begins blocks away, with roads blocked and a helicopter overhead.


In September 2013, military contractor Aaron Alexis killed 12 civilian workers at the Navy Yard's Building 197 before he was fatally shot by police. The building has since been renamed the Humphreys Building. It reopened this year.


The Navy Yard, in southeast Washington, is the America's oldest naval installation.
