A long time ago he used to have a shortwave radio program, and could be heard over a satellite feed over C-band - probably all this was back in the late 80s and early 90s.

Back in those days, I listened to him and the internet wasn't really there. I was running some survival lists that were on email, and there was the alt-survival stuff out there I was a participant in.

Originally all that stuff was like "Fox Fire" books in email. People talking about everything from how to skin an animal to how to grow food.

Then the conspiracies started over things like inoculations and people like Jones got "famous".

People fell for him because he can weave a good "story". But that's all it is, a story.
